Follow the teams vying for the 8th seed in this thread, tbh..
Spurs are currently the 1st seed, this could obviously change, but we'll assume they remain 1st for now..
Utah is now 8th, 0.5 ahead of LA and they hold the tiebreaker..
Utah getting the 8th seed would be great for the Spurs, probably a sweep..

I didn't underestimate the Jazz, but seems I did overestimate the Lakers. They lost 4 of last 5 to Suns, Wizards, Warriors and Bucks. The next few games are really make or break time for the Lakers as the Jazz only has 3 away games left.
Of course, if the Lakers miss the playoffs, that's the second best news to the Spurs winning it all.

Jazz play BKY at home tomorrow and BKY has just been sucking something fierce. Dwill had been on a streak but his last two outings are really poor. If LA can somehow lose to SACTO and Jazz can win at home it will be 1.5 game lead on LA.

We'll assume the Rockets are safe at this stage, 3 games ahead for the 7th seed but have lost 2 in a row.
Looked like the Jazz were fading out of the picture. Didnt they lose 4 out of 5 games recently? I thought they were just gonna write the season off. Good to see them win 3 straight to leap over the Lakers again.
Mavs v Lakers April 2nd could prove very telling. Aprox 10 games left in the season and we have 3 possible first round opponents, damn. I suppose Utah would be the easiest opponent so i hope they stay at number 8 but a first round matchup with our old Pals in LA and Dallas could be tantalising to. But the only thing better then beating the Lakers or Mavs in the playoffs would be seeing them miss the playoffs alltogether. That would be some funny shit.

Lakers have a pretty brutal schedule (Grizz, Clips, @ Blazers, Dubs, Spurs, and Rockets), as does Dallas (Bulls, two games against the Nuggs, the Grizz, and @ Blazers), plus the game against each other Tuesday and several b2bs. Utah plays everyone in their division (T-pups twice) and @ Grizz last day of the season. Tough call, but with the tie-breaker on both I'll take the Jazz.

The Jazz would definitely be the easiest opponent the Spurs could get.
I would like to see LA miss the playoffs, but it's also sweet to picture the Spurs being the team that eliminated the "stacked" Lakers.
Dallas sucks, but I still think they will give the Spurs trouble. Nowitzki knows how to play against us. And Vince Carter has been a good 6th man for them.
I think the Spurs will beat all three, but I would want Jazz>Mavericks>Lakers.

Beating the Lakers in a series would be fun, but it would be much more entertaining to watch the meltdown if they missed the playoffs, tbh..
Stacked roster with historic hype, most people(including myself) picking them to win the West, a lot of people even thinking they could challenge Miami(idiots), yet they would miss the playoffs against the weakest 6 to 9 seed competition in the West since the mid-2000s..adding insult to injury, they don't have a lottery pick:lol..
Also, Kobefan having to explain how Kobe missed the playoffs as the top player on his team twice during his career would be quite pleasing, tbh..

In the 16 years Tim Duncan has been in SA he has NEVER been in a position of sweating out making the Playoffs. In fact the Spurs have won at least one playoff series 13 of the 15 playoff years and the two losses included 2000 when Duncan did not play.
There is a solid chance Kobe Bryant will miss the playoffs twice in his career. The TOSB tag actually should be directed to the west now.
An idle thought - does anyone besides me think that Kobe Bryant is loading up on Human Growth Hormone or something of that ilk to keep things going. Those trips to Germany in the offseason seem a little fishy to me.

Honestly, I'd rather play either of the Jazz or Lakers than the Rockets tbh. The Rockets actually play fairly well against us. While I doubt that'd go more than 5-6 games, that series would have a lot closer games than we would against Jazz (I'd predict another sweep including a couple blowouts tbh), and Lakers (4-5 games, at least one blowout). Rockets would be a 5-6 gamer with 3-4 close games.
I'm hoping for the Lakers. Nothing would be better than sweeping the Lakers out of the first round, not even them missing the playoffs entirely tbh. . .because you will still get some dumb faggots claiming they only didn't win because they didn't make the playoffs because of dropping a few games early in the season when they had a few injuries. . .or will somehow find a way to blame Mike Brown for it.

Same here. Thinking the Lakers would be good is the only preseason prediction I made this year that I was way off on. I don't feel bad about it since almost everyone who wasn't trolling had them finishing top 3, but jesus christ, completely unexpectedly shit combination of players.
I enjoy it though. It's a prime example of talent not always being better than a well put together team. The Nuggets, with zero stars, are clearly much better than the Lakers when healthy.

i want the lakers to miss the play offs big time, if the mavs miss it that's fine too. Also the thing about the two picks being lottery after like 12years for one and from bynum for the other, is huge.. I still hope we win a title and then when duncan and manu retire, we tank it big time, so the number one pick would be almost a given, lakers and mavs could do it too, but if they lose those picks this year, it is really huge.

"It would be worse if it's April 18," D'Antoni said, referring to the day after the Lakers' regular-season schedule comes to an end. "We still have nine games, so we're tied. That's what the guys understand. Our goal is to win nine games. If we win nine in a row, then hopefully Utah will lose one. And if they lose two and we lose one, then that (works too). You got to go with every game is crucial and every game you have to win. You don't know what Utah is going to do. You hope they lose one."

Good points. I still think the Lakers find a way to get in somehow, just by the grace of the basketball Gods (aka David Stern). It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. Spurs are barely hanging on to that one spot, and we play the Thunder in OKC which is obviously a big game. But even if we lose, we'll still be up 1/2 a game on them (as long as we take care of business against Orlando tonight). I think we finish with the 1st seed and play the Lakers somehow. But don't hold me to it.

I don't want no Kobe jumpshot game winner in game 7 of a series that would be made into a portrait plastered all over David Sterns' bedroom and the NBA headquarters and be played over and over during every ad break on nbatv for life.
I'll just bet you don't.

Jazz already have 8th spot due to tiebreaker with Lakers, but a win against Warriors and that lead goes to .5 games

:lol the free throw disparity
The league isn't even trying to hide that they are attempting to shoehorn the Lakers into the playoffs.

Guess the Warriors didn't watch the Spurs game? lol. But seriously, for a player like Mo who is not a great slasher, the defense need to know that his first and second choice would be a 3-pointer no matter how far it is. As long as he has a clean look, it's dangerous.

Utah winning 5 in a row really hurt the lakers chances.
Now all Lakers can hope for is Utah losing to a scrub team and/or Lakers beating 2 out of these: MEM, LAC, GS, SA, HOU
It looks like the game Spurs vs. Lakers will decide not only 8th seed fate, but might also decide 1st seed :wow :wow
fucking great games coming up, playoffs are actually starting right now
IMO here are the chances:
Spurs 1st seed: 60%
OKC 1st seed: 40%
Utah 8th seed: 75%
LA 8th seed: 25%
:lol lakers if they don't make the playoffs. dudes gonna have to ball out of their minds just to make 8th seed :lol
well, well. looks like everything going as I had predicted.
More importantly, lakers win over MEM was canceled out today with Utah's win over GS. :lol
So Lakers have still got to beat 2 out of GS, SA, HOU
oh and btw, Utah would be the more formidable 8th seed

If the Nuggets can somehow hold on to #3 even with their injuries, then the Rockets and Warriors will be fighting like mad to draw them in the first round and avoid the Thunder or Spurs. That could make things hard for the Lakers who play both in the last few games.

Great day for Spur fans:
1. OKC lost, so they can no longer just win out and get the #1 seed
2. LAL lost and Utah won, so Utah is more competitive to win the 8th seed
3. No Spur got injured.

Utah:
OKC
MIN
@MIN
@MEM
Lakers:
NO
@POR
GS
SA
HOU
If Utah goes 2-2, Lakers need to go 4-1 in that stretch to make it. I think Utah can take care of Minny 2x, and maybe even upset OKC tonight. MWP coming back early for the Lakers. We'll see what they're made of.

Is Memphis still fighting for seeding purposes? Would be the ultimate screw job if they tanked to Utah. But we so know Jerry West will play a role in that decision.

:lol Can you imagine the outcry that Laker fan will have if Memphis sits their starters that game? They would call West a traitor and call for rule changes. I agree though that probably Jerry would try throw a bone the lakers way.

Memphis is probably going to be fighting for a higher seed. Either to get the HCA agasint LAC or to get the 3rd seed from Denver if possible (less likely).
Whats also likely is that GS and HOU are also going to be fighting for a higher seed.
Ahhhh....so much at stake tonight!! Hopefully Utah can put the pressure to the Lakers and defeat OKC.
