The guy that the Spurs should get, but won't is Raja Bell. The guy can play defense. He will go somewhere that will pay him more than what the Spurs can pay. He is a physical player that knows how to put pressure on his man. He is a decent scorer, but his bread and butter is his defense. That's what Pop wants and what the Spurs will need once Bowen is gone.

He's committed to Phoenix. Good idea though.

Bell is going to join the suns

"Raja Bell intends to sign a contract with the Suns when the moratorium ends," his agent, Herb Rudoy, told ESPN Insider Chad Ford. "Raja really wanted to play with Steve Nash and saw a great opportunity to do just that."

I think the spurs should look at Gerald Wallace

Wallace would be nice but he's a restricted free agent and I suspect the Bobcats won't have a problem re-upping him.

Felt the same way. Excellent idea. A bit too late though. I wonder how much the Suns offered him to sign. I know he was looking for a substantial pay increase from what he was making in Utah.

Gerald Wallace is the guy I want.

The guy almost got into to Bowen because they are alike. They are both physical and love to get underneath their opponent's skin. That's why he is perfect to fill in for Bowen.

Gerald Wallace is fragile. He was constantly out with hang nails, runny nose, gas when he played for Sac. Not exactly the iron man to replace the iron man.

How about Greg Buckner?

wrong. That's where Bowen is different. He never lets the contact get to his head. Bell on the other hand, always takes it personal and loses crontrol. Bowen is always in control

what about trenton hassell of the wolves???

Gerald Wallace is going to get a pretty decent size deal. Somewhere along the lines of $15-20M I would suspect.

And no, the Spurs wouldn't go after him. They've had chances to in the past and haven't pulled the trigger.

Even though Bell has verbally committed to the suns, does anyone know the reason Pop let Raja go when he was with the Spurs?
Would Pop want him back?

Did anyone forget Devin Brown? He will only get better and could take over the starting stop at some point next year when he becomes a force.

i agree we shouldnt look past Dev our hometown hero

im not sure the spurs are going to be able to find a perimeter defender of the quality of bruce anytime soon. spurs fans take him for granted. devin has the potential to be a really good one, but in the future the spurs will probably have a different defensive structure than in the present. my guess is that they'll have to rely a little more on the offense to win games than in the present.

We'll have to get two defenders to replace Bruce.

Devin and some 6'9"+ dude.

why do people mention raja bell, when did this guy become small forward height?
he's shorter than bowen, if not on paper then in real life

and devin brown as bowens replacement has some merit but, once again, when did DB become small forward height?

We need a TALL SF not an undersized one...

Spursdaone

I don't agree with having to have a tall small forward. How many teams have great tall small forwards and even then Horry or Bowen can guard them for short periods. Brown is just fine as a small forward.

Darius Rice played pretty well in the summer league game, Bowens backup I will vouch for that

Pietrus next year should be the Spurs #1 traget to replace Bruce. GS picked up his option for next season so after that if I am not mistaken he will be a FA.

I'd say go with Devin Brown.
And does anyone know what Scola's defense is like?

I think whoever backs up bowen now is doing a good job.

I'll do it. I'll back him up.

I wanted us to go after Bell myself. I really like him as a player and thought that he would be an excellent pick up. And he has some offense in him as well. How much money is he getting from Phoenix though?
