I was thinking about getting one of these for my kids to have for browsing, playing Angry Birds, watching Netflix, etc.
I was considering two different models:
NEO G4 Dual-Core w/ Android 4.1.1
or
Rikomagic MK802 IIIs
These things can be had for $60 - $70
Good idea? Retarded? Thanks.

I've always thought those little Rasberry kits looked pretty cool.

I want one of these, but I am letting them mature/come down in price. I can't remember specifically, but I seem to remember reading something bad about MK802, but the III might be a different model

I just bought the RK3066 off Amazon (the one reviewed in the youtube above). I'll let you know how it goes. For $60 though, what's there to lose?

I have both the G4 and the X5 the X5 is a little bigger than the apple tv fully supports 1080p streaming and has 16 gigs of storage versus 8 on the sticks. Also has bluetooth for gamepads and optical out. Both will support a wireless keyboard and mouse, thumb drive or external hard drive although a powered usb hub is recommended.

those little boxes are nice... I have a WD Live Plus, but since I bought the Smart TV, I didn't need it anymore... I ended up installing debian on it with a hack and now it runs cups + avahi as a AirPrint mini-server for our iPhones and iPads...

I got this in the mail last week, and I have to say, it is pretty cool. I'm going to load xbmc, slap some movies on the SD card, and I've got a movie theater that fits in my pocket. So far, it's only crashed once.

NO dvr features but you dont really need this. It's basicly on demand everything. Live streaming of all movies, and tv show episodes and thousands of live tv channel streams including hbo, cinemax, ufc events etc. By the way when your not using that stick unplug it they get pretty hot, the boxes are the way to go in my opinion as they whould have a longer lifespan versus the

some streams are hdish but its hit or miss. many are standard def or worse but very watchable, the movies and tv shows are generally hi def and many streamaing live channels are in fact hd.

Let me back up. I just installed xbmc on my phone and I have never used xbmc at all. I am not really sure what I am doing so I am trying to read about it. For example, I am trying to install the free cable add on, but it isn't in the list on the xbmc app. It seems i have to install something called a repository, but I dont know how to do this.

Bit old, but may help:

you will also need to install xbmc server on your comp I believe, and add the repositories there. Then you can access them from your phone from what I remember

Will I have to be on my home network to use xbmc to access those repositories, or do I use the computer to install, then I can use it anywhere?
Also, I am not sure if this makes any difference, but apparently, android used to have only a xbmc client, but now it has a full version of frodo.
also, I will check out that link. Thank you

It depends, I bet they support cellular connectivity in beta if nothing else, but you may be leaving an opening in your home network.

ok, I think i figured this out. So far XBMC is pretty badass, it is a little skippy on my phone, but I would imagine that on a dedicated box it would be very cool
