Magic Johnson just said on NBA Countdown that if The Lakers get the 8 seed and The Spurs maintained the number 1 seed....The Lakers will beat The Spurs in the 1st round of the playoffs. Boy, he has too much good food and wine to say something like that. He bleeds Purple and Gold so I guess he's allowed to get away with that. LOL!

No he's not right.

He made that statement based on how they've been playing lately and injuries. The Spurs right now look and play like a bottom-feeder playoff team and it's possible they won't change that until the playoffs begin. Lakers are a bad team but they have 4 All-Stars and the refs/Stern in their back pocket. Luckily they more than likely won't meet in the postseason so this is all moot.

This. We're not playing as well as we were early in the year, and yeah the injuries are a bitch, but that Laker team should not be overrated. They play no defense. The Rockets are actually much more of a coherent team and more of a threat in the first round (though I think we'll beat them too.)

It's fashionable to say the Lakers will be improved if they get in the playoffs, but since we're unlikely to meet them, I think OKC will have little trouble with Kobe and Co.

A healthy Spurs team would rip LA a new one in the playoffs- five games with a referee bailout in one. Six games max with an injured Spurs team. LA is HORRIBLE on D and is so isolation heavy on O they can be defended.

OKC will sweep LA because 5th Avenue seems to like them a little more than SA.

Cool well the OKC thing is still on - we will just use paypal. Definitely think SA and OKC would win (definitely OKC) but Kobe is usually good for 1 game at least. Pau is playing better, Dwight too. Their bench is inconsistent but have stepped up (Jamison, Clark,...).

I would hate for the Spurs to draw LA - terrible match up IMO. Spurs should win, but there is a big enough chance of an upset there IMO.

Another thing I disagree with. Memphis was a very cohesive bunch with great chemistry and defense. Every player knew there role and they actually tanked to fall down to 8. They also won something like 47 or 48 games that year if I remember correctly.

Not gonna lie, it's hard to not take any other team in the west playoffs over the Spurs right now besides maybe the Jazz.

We're super hurt and the playoffs are right around the corner. We've choked away so many games and barely been playing .500 ball lately. Pretty much only games we've won lately were games when Duncan had his cape on.

If Parker and Manu are both out, we aren't beating anyone. That said, if Spurs were actually healthy, the Lakers will be made to look like total cuckholds in the first round.

I don't think Magic's wrong. This team is a mess right now, and unless I see big changes in the remainder of the regular season (like everyone back and playing well), then I don't think the Spurs beat the Lakers or Houston.

In every way things can be bad, they're getting there. Manu being busted up and not even performing well when he was healthy. A banged up Parker who looked bad the last time he played. Disappointing Diaw now possibly out several first round games . . . even if he was playing, he's been a disappointment for me this year anyway. Stephen Jackson hobbling around . . . and playing like garbage when on the court.

Then the guys who are suiting up are playing poorly outside of Duncan and Leonard down the stretch. Splitter in a serious funk, extremely disappointing to me. Green beginning his late season swoon. Neal being awful most of the time. De Colo and Joseph having unremarkable outings, making zero positive difference. Mills being a worse option than the other two. The Turd Towers doing what they do, bad defense and choked bricks.

And of course Pop, who as much as I love him, has proven to be able to lose any playoff series despite having the better team or losing a series when having the upper hand and a 2-0 lead with homecourt advantage. And just the kind of infuriating stubborness to trot the Turd Towers out against the Lakers to be destroyed until the Spurs are on the brink before he decides Baynes might be worth trying at center over Blair to buy the starters some rest on the bench.

This team is ripe to be wrecked in the first round. I just hope Parker and Ginobili are able to come back and save this team from another first round upset.

I've been high on Spurs all year, but since Parker went down I've become very pessimistic.I just don't think this is our year, too many injuries late in the season.

With Parker it's a fluke injury, twisting an ankle by landing on someones foot, but Manu is deeper. Manu has been getting injured just playing basketball by pulling muscles, back spasms etc, gotta worry about him going forward.

Saying that, Spurs facing Lakers this Sunday makes it unlikely they will face each other in the playoffs. If Spurs lose that game, they will have a hard time at getting the 1st seed. If Lakers lose, they might end at the 9th seed. And since one team has to lose that game...
