View Full Version : Do the Spurs sign some one? If yes, who?

I don't think a backup SF is as important of a fill with Kawhi probably playing 40 a game. With Diaw out, I think they just give Bonner his PT (:ihit) and then give Baynes Bonners current minutes. So that leaves the 2 spot as a must fill.

Tracy McGrady? Maybe Delonte West?

I doubt they sign anyone but wish they'd look at Dominic Maguire or Donte Greene. Guys might not shoot well but can defend the 3-4 positions.

I cringe thinking of Green and Manu backing up Leonard.

Unless there is a 6'3 SG on the market the spurs won't make a move.

Nope. Just waived players. Players who were FA before March 1, have til wed to be picked up and be playoff eligible.

swaggerjackson
04-12-2013, 10:04 PM
I was under the impression we can only have 12 players on the playoff roster. With Jax gone that leaves us with 13 players. I don't think we would sign a free agent who could unseat two of our bench players in just two weeks. Knowing the system and running it precisely is what gives this team strength, so even if quality small forwards did exist in the free agent market, it is still unlike we bring them in because they don't have enough time to learn the system and develop chemistry. It sucks but we just have to go into the playoffs with all our small forward hopes on Kawhi.

I doubt anybody's gonna take Jack off waivers, so Spurs are stuck paying him. I doubt they'd grab somebody now who does not "know the system", would just sit on the bench, like Baynes.

It's not too late for a 10 day contract. Bring up Jamichal Green from the Toros. He's 6'9" and athletic, plus can make free throws and layups. He knows a little about the Spurs system and has played with Joseph this year. Dominic McGuire or Donte Greene would probably go for a 10 day as well.

No cry babies allowed in this thread. It doesn't behoove. Now let's get :smokin.

Meh, on second thought 10 day contract would do nothing. Forget about it!

For those of you who thought, "Hmmm, I wonder what James Gist (Panathinaikos) or Erazem Lorbek (FCB) are doing about now?" They are, of course, under contract and playing in the Euroleague playoffs..against each other. Gist has a sore tendon, though.

Check out James Gist. He had a couple of nice dunks and a sweet block in Game 1.

At the very least, sign a guy to a big stiff to a 10 day contract and save Duncan / Splitter's legs for the final three games. Will cost $50k-$100k max. Oh wait, we already have one at the end of the bench.

But someone to take Kawhi's minutes at SF would be nice for the Golden State game. No way anyone plays that game.

Pop would not play anyone anyway, but yes I think they need to get someone. This Team is so freaking tiny right now and with only 1 SF who will be guarding Durant or Lebron outside of Lenard of course.

Those are two players that draw a ton of fouls, KL most likely will be in foul trouble all game.

04-13-2013, 08:44 AM
My pick is Dominic McGuire.

I don't think Spurs can find a player good enough to be a full time backup SF. The backup SF slot will be primary hold by Green/Ginobili. Spurs are still fine depth wise on the wings with Leonard, Ginobili, Green and Neal.

The best use to do with that roster spot is to sign a situational player that could help them at some point of the playoffs. I can see Mcguire being that guy by giving Spurs a second good defender behind Kawhi to slow down Durant and Lebron.

If we make it that far they should have thought of that before they cut Jax, but I don't even know if they make it to the WCF, they have go get past Houston and then a tougher team in round two and that right now looks iffy.

It doesn't matter.

It does. Not because the player would be in the rotation, but because, what's the downside? They've got the open roster spot, their intent is presumably to still go four rounds (though with this decision, I question that; not because of his on court play, but because I see it as symbolic, like when they gave away Ratliff in '10) and they've got guys dropping like flies at the moment. The odds of whoever they bring in making any sort of meaningful contribution are extremely slim to say the least, but still, the team should be equipped with a reasonable number of bodies at each position just in case.

The only reason the Spurs would sign someone is to soak up minutes in these last two games. No chance of a player signed this late getting any playoff burn.

Going from an earlier post by Bruno, a minimum contract at this point would cost the Spurs around $15,000. I'd be fine getting a SG/SF and playing them 44 mpg each of these last two so that Pop can rest the important players. The Spurs' seeding is basically locked up anyway.
