Lakers still have 2 to 3 probable HOFers. If they had a bench and a real coach, they'd still be a lock for the playoffs. It'll make the game on Sunday interesting. Not only are they fighting for the playoffs, but Dwight and Pau will be out to prove they can be the focus of the offense successfully.

This is the absolute capper to a nighmare season for the Lakers.

If it's a torn Achilles, he's out for the rest of his contract. May make sense for the Lakers to amnesty him - will save the $3.25 luxury tax on his deal ($100 million). Not sure they have cap room for anything but Dwight anyway.

And as much as I disdain Kobe, never fun to see anyone go down like that. Always loved him as a competitor.

Video of Kobe talking about it in front of a famous Jacob Riis quote. Wonder where the Lakers came up with that?

This is an overuse case in my opinion. When forced, the body will react sometimes violently. When he slightly hyper-extended his left knee, it changes his gait(the way he normally looks while walking or running). You can tell he was labored. 17 Seasons in, you have to ALLOW a rest. No one is superhuman.

The last prominent LA Athlete to go down with a completely ruptured tendon was David Beckham. His story offers a unique perspective of why an achilles can go and how to treat the rupture.

His surgeon is one of the world's best and he had Beckham back and playing in 4 months.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1270269/David-Beckham-reveals-gruesome-shot-surgery-performed-Achilles-heel.html

He believes he sustained the injury because he's been pushing his body too hard saying 'it could happen to anyone'.

Beckham said he was excited about the World Cup and would be attending as a spectator and supporter
'I think I'd been running too much in the game and I was tired, there was a minute left and it just went,' he said.

I wonder if this is more of Kobe's injury drama. A ploy so that he can try looking like the hero by running out of the tunnel on Sunday and trying to force himself into the Fakers starting lineup, to save the day - again?

Don't tell him that. Kobe will use this unfortunate episode to fuel a fierce comeback, just to prove pundits and fans wrong. Of course, he'll do so at the detriment of the Fakers future. Given the fact that his contract is up after next season, it will be very interesting to see how all this plays out for both him and the Fakers organization. Time for Jodie Meeks to man up.

BS he can be back in 5 months perhaps as soon as 4 months. A complete tear is easier to fix than a partial. If an old man like David Beckham could be back on the pitch in 4 months and play in Champions League(they got eliminated on Wednesday) then it's possible Bean can be back as well.

C'mon brother man, most anyone can name 3 players "all-time" better than Kobe without even trying. Even the most casual of basketball fan on a whim would probably suggest 3 other players all-time than Bryant. Although it very well may be a generational thing as well.

I never wish this sort of debilitating injury to anybody. If its a mild injury that causes somebody to miss a handful of games, I don't lose sleep over it. When Kobe sprained his ankle after the Hawks game, I wasn't sad for him. But a torn achilles, thats rough.

But hey at least we can be certain he's not faking it.

I have a hard time getting some sympathy for Bryant. He has just played too much the card "I'm seriously injured" while he wasn't. Now that he is really seriously injured, he can't put his usual "I'm a warrior" or "mind over body" BS. There is some kind of Karma behind that injury for Bryant to have faked injuries and for D'Antoni to have played him 45 mpg.

And of top of that, Bryant isn't a likable man on and off the court.

I can see it now. The Lakers resign an old, broken Kobe, package him with some combination of Gasol, Nash, Peace in a blockbuster multi team trade. When all the dealing is done, the Lakers have LeBron and Harden starting along side Howard. They fire D'antoni and rehire Phil. The rest of the league wonders how it was done. Stern laughs.

In other news, Derek Fisher convinces OkC to release him so he can tend to an ailing family member. He promptly resigns with the Lakers.

Well said and I couldn't agree more. :tu

damn this is horrible. i don't like the lakers but i do like kobe. i hope he is able to come back from this...wow

he just posted this on facebook:

This is such BS! All the training and sacrifice just flew out the window with one step that I’ve done millions of times! The frustration is unbearable. The anger is rage. Why the hell did this happen ?!? Makes no damn sense. Now I’m supposed to come back from this and be the same player Or better at 35?!? How in the world am I supposed to do that??
I have NO CLUE. Do I have the consistent will to overcome this thing? Maybe I should break out the rocking chair and reminisce on the career that
was. Maybe this is how my book ends.

Maybe Father Time has defeated me…Then again maybe not! It’s 3:30am, my foot feels like dead weight, my head is spinning from the pain meds and I’m wide awake. Forgive my Venting but what’s the purpose of social media if I won’t bring it to you Real No Image?? Feels good to vent, let it out. To feel as if THIS is the WORST thing EVER! Because After ALL the venting, a real perspective sets in. There are far greater issues/challenges in the world then a torn achilles. Stop feeling sorry for yourself, find the silver lining and get to work with the same belief, same drive and same conviction as ever.
One day, the beginning of a new career journey will commence. Today is NOT that day.

“If you see me in a fight with a bear, prey for the bear”. Ive always loved that quote. Thats “mamba mentality” we don’t quit, we don’t cower, we don’t run. We endure and conquer.
I know it’s a long post but I’m Facebook Venting LOL. Maybe now I can actually get some sleep and be excited for surgery tomorrow. First step of a new challenge.
Guess I will be Coach Vino the rest of this season. I have faith in my teammates. They will come thru.

Thank you for all your prayers and support. Much Love Always.

Im sure Kobe feels exactly the same as George Karl on chemotherapy.

Such a tough life... I weep.

I admire him for his tenacity, but that's about it. I will never forget Kobe spouting off about Tim being a complainer about his knees. This was of course BEFORE Kobe got a knee injury and had surgery. Kobe always has the worst of all injuries. When will the diva post the first MRI's... I can't wait.

If he really did tear that, he's not going to be back for the playoffs. And if he does, his quickness and speed will be hugely effected. Again, that is, it this isn't another wildly overdramatized fake Kobe injury. Lakers won't put up much of a fight without Kobe if this is true.

Spurs had just as many injuries as far as games missed with key players as LA and they are a 2nd seed. It's disgusting how people are using this injury to point to why LA didn't make the playoffs and even when Kobe gets injured, his legacy gets bubblewraped.

I just don't feel much sympathy for Kobe. I can't think of another player in sports that I despise more. It's because of what he represents, I find both his game and his character revolting. The guy is very close to being a sociopath, and I don't use that word lightly. The fact LA would make him the face of their franchise says everything about their organization and fanbase.

Now.......had he injured himself in a practice, I honestly would feel bad for him. That would've been very anticlimactic for both him, his fans and his haters. But the fact this happened on a classic Lakers FT contest game, where he's clearly benefiting from Stern's deceit, it seemed somewhat like justice to me.

It'll be interesting to see the revisionist history a few years from now about the Lakers this year. Their inevitable loss in the playoffs will all be because of Kobe's injury, as if they wouldn't have gotten bounced even with him. The spin will make a hero out of Kobe at the expense of Pau, Dwight, etc....

This is the result and a perfect example of what likely can happen if Pop overplayed Manu, Tim and Tony on a consistent basis. It is why Pop can be overly cautious at times.

It can't be said with any certainty that this is the result of him being ran into the ground. There's no way of quantifying if or how much. Besides, he held up as a clear cut top ten player for a long, long time despite being run into the ground.

On the flip side, where has all Pop's micro managing gotten the Spurs the past five seasons? I realize they've had a lot of bad luck, but still, it's blown up in their face.

As far as the injury, good. They're the luckiest franchise in the history of North American professional sports and it's about damn time they had some bad luck (sure, they've had their share of injuries this season, but they've never had a season ruined by injury). Speaking of never getting bad luck, the Thunder's road to the 2nd round unfortunately just got even easier.

obviously consensual sex with a strange woman would be better. TP forever hurt his leadership status with that move. there is a brotherhood to being on a team, and you obviously ruin the bros-before-hos directive if you need to use a teammate's wife as a cum dumpster.

don't know dude, I think most people view one as worse than the other, and so wouldn't have too much trouble imagining a situation in which formerly good person A commits Sin A (adultery), while formerly good person B commits Sin B(rape), but because Sin A is not considered as reprehensible as Sin B, people will generally continue to consider formerly good person A as still good, while still, without being inconsistent, considering formerly good person B to be a fucking piece of shit.

Saying Erin Barry's denial of having sex with Tony Parker is pretty compelling, is a gross understatement. She says she is a dedicated Mom, and the accusations are "ridiculous." She says that anyone who actually knows her, knows it's untrue. Maybe Brent was the one in that marriage that went astray. I always thought Tony and Erin were victims of Eva's high paid publicist. That Tony had sex with a teammates' wife is far from proven. I've always believed it was bullshit.

I have no problem saying that players like Duncan or Ginobili are more likable than a player like Parker. It isn't of course a black or white thing and while Parker is remarkable on certain aspect of his personality, he is also a douchebag for other ones.
