I saw the postgame interviews, and Bryant got a little red-eyed when some reporter said, "If anybody can get through this, it's you." Or maybe Bryant was red-eyed about the fact that the universe will not revolve around him for a year. But Laker fans should be happy...Bryant did the only thing he possibly could that would insure Dwight would re-sign with the Lakers. Without this Achilles blowout, Dwight is so very out of LA.

Upon further reflection, I think Bryant was red-eyed because of the ref's poignant reaction to his Achilles injury. What did the ref do when Bryant fell to the ground? He blew the whistle, of course. It's just the perfect tribute, really, to the one player who has benefitted more from the whistle than any other player in history. I mean, this is America...I call for a 21-Whistle Salute to honor this fallen hero.

No, I assume that he'll just do exactly what Beckham did. He hurt it exactly the same way. OVERUSE, a tired body will find a way to compensate and then when it cannot, it will find a way to stop you cold. He'll go to a world-class Surgeon. Beckham's surgeon is Dr Sakari Orava. America's best Orthopedic Surgeon is Dr. James Andrews. He will see someone at that level and then, 4 to 5 months, if he wants to work really hard, he can be back at the same level physically. All they do is open up the calf, they find the tendon up there and then re-attach it to the anchor point on the ankle. To strengthen it, they can add a graft if needed.

Injuries suck!!

I never wish any injuries on any player, nor do I relish it when they happen.

Like him or not, Kobe is as driven as they come...sure, sometimes so much so that it can actually be detrimental his team. I am not a big Kobe fan, but it is damn hard not to admire the competitor in him.

I think Kobe knows that he is facing his basketball mortality, and I'm sure that is a hard as hell to do given his body of work and achievements.

In some ways, it reminds me of the situation with Tony Dorsett...just making a routine cut and it can all come crashing down. All of that mileage takes a toll on the body, no matter who you are, or how much money you spend on preventative measures.

I truly believe that Kobe will rehab and come back, but he will never be the same...father time always wins.

If this truly is the end of Kobe as I have seen him throughout his career from my Spurs fan point of view, I will miss the "villian" that was healthy Kobe, unbridled by the torrent of physical ailment and decline.

Afterall, Kobe helped bring out the best in the Spurs, as the Spurs have likewise brought out the best in him.

I wish you a speedy recovery #24

You seem to have quite an interest in my deceased mother..you want a description of what she looked like? I dunno, about average I guess. All around average; body, face..average. This is kind of a boring topic of conversation..better one would be this breakdown you're currently having. What's it gonna take for you to get to sleep tonight? Not hardly.

It really is simple, even though I am well past my personal prime, and never was an elite athlete, I still and always will remain a competitor...that is just the way I am geared. How any legit fan could wish or want to face a team that is less than full strength is beyond me.

I can assure you that if you asked TD, TP, LBJ, Dirk, (insert any top athletes name here) you would get the same response.

You want to smack your opponent square in the face at full strength and take victory from them, not achieve empty and hollow wins.
