And the Lakers Organization is precisely that. Animals, the lot of 'em. From Buss all the way down to the schmuck who cleans the johns. They did Daddy dirt. And won't hesitate to do Bryant the same. Buss's goons are in Lancaster right now with spades in the earth getting that shallow grave ready. And you can bet your bottom dollar they (Lakers org) won't blink an eye as they roll Bryant in.

Not amnestying him will cost the Lakers $80 million. $30 million for his contract, $50 million in luxury tax. That's ridiculous. They probably won't amnesty him, but it's a really dumb decision not to.

Who cares, Lakers have always been about greatness, meanwhile your Spurs can't even catch the Bulls in terms of rings when they have been irrelevant since Jordan retired. The Lakers have such rich history that they'll probably have a superstar in their hands in a few years.

And Lebron will never play for the Lakers. Can't believe some Laker fans actually believe it's a possibility.

You really are so close sometimes but my goodness if you didn't completely miss the mark with this comment. Kobe is a p&a who blames injuries for his short comings. He isn't the franchise and if it's good for them, despite the *injury*(which you can't blame - it's Kobe's fault he's injured and no one else, just move on and don't cite it ever) they do it.

You are pathetic on this one and there's no if and's or buts.

You do what's good for the team and injuries happen. You decide on the future with what happens without pause or concern over perception. Winning is all that matters and nothing else. Anything else is cowardly and indefensible.

On a more serious note:
The Lakers could and probably would amnesty Kobe if he has a chance of missing the entire next season. He can then, sign back with the Lakers.
"Luckily", next year is Kobe last contract year, so he could resign with the same team that amnesty (whats the past form of that world?) him.

No. It's Bryants money. He earned that. And they're paying it. Every...single...dime. He's the one who went after the old man. He's the one who made the old man pony up Gasol. He's the one who gave Phil a hand down. He's the one who signed off on Artest. He's the one who passed to Artest. Give him the fucking money.

I understand it fully. & only an animal would attempt such a protocol with Bryant.

He got us into a pickle in '08. He got us out in '10. Like Magic got us into a pickle in '84. And Magic got us out in '85. You see the lineage? No, because it only comes into focus if he didn't get us out in '10. They you see it. That's how it works, Cap. You have look deep into the heritage you've been entrusted with. You know the heritage of your people, Cap? You have any idea? Probably not. But, that's another point. Anyway...

Fine. We'll draw up a new contract when this one is exhausted and we can discuss reality and economy. But, we ain't discussin' until then. No.

I dont see how an amnesty on Kobe would mean anything besides saving money.
No other team will pick him up in my scenario, he is injured and cant play.
If Kobe doesn't like the idea that the team saves money he is just an bad person.
He gets his money, the Lakers save money and if he can play he can sign a new contract next year.
The scenario would be different if Kobe had 2 or more years in his contract, but with only one year remaining, if he cant play, its the best option.
Like I said, it doesn't mean anything, don't know why fans would think so. In fact Kobe legacy would be even greater: He even accept the amnesty in order to help the team.

Jimbo doesn't have the balls..Besides it's a losing proposition...if your paying Kobe 30 million and he's single-handedly bringing in 80 mill alone (confirmed) you'd essentially be throwing away a 50 + million dollar profit... getting rid of Gasol , Nash and Metta is the answer

Bryant appeared to have been crying before meeting with reporters Friday while using crutches after the Lakers' 118-116 victory.Kupchak downplayed the prospects of the Lakers using their one-time "amnesty" provision to waive Bryant in July.
"That's not even something that we've discussed," Kupchak said. "That's the furthest thing from our mind right now."
The Lakers are allowed to cut one of four players on their roster without paying luxury taxes on his salary. Bryant will make $30.5 million next season. The other three eligible players are Pau Gasol (http://www.latimes.com/topic/sports/basketball/pau-gasol-PESPT002503.topic) ($19.3 million next season), Metta World Peace (http://www.latimes.com/topic/sports/basketball/metta-world-peace-PESPT000254.topic) ($7.7 million) and Steve Blake (http://www.latimes.com/topic/sports/basketball/steve-blake-PESPT000009470.topic) ($4 million). Only those four players are eligible to be amnestied because they are the only players still on the roster from July 2011.
If the Lakers waived Bryant, they would save up to $80 million in luxury taxes but would still have to pay his salary.
