Lakers winning the first round series against OKC would be equivalent to winning a title for them this year.

That would be hilarious.
There's also a chance they still play the Spurs.

Dats a Clipper fan mindset ... you know that "other" team that plays at Staples ...
I thought LA had almost zero chance of beating OKC in 7 even with a healthy Kobe. They're the only team in the West I would say that about. OKC is simply the worst possible matchup for LA.

^We have see how they fare without Harden and with Martin. That absence released a lot of pressure for us and anybody else for that matter. Harden was no shrinking violet. And he was no false prophet like Westbrook. Harden has obviously been tutored in the fine art of intimidation by Perkins because he made Kobe retreat like Lewis Lloyd had done Magic way back. That loss is going to be reckoned withPERIOD

No. With teams focused on winning it all, playoffs are a foregone conclusion. You don't mention it, much like you don't mention lacing up your sneakers as that is step 1 of everything. He lowered expectations due to his own short comings and lowered himself to preaching on something that makes not a bit of damn difference.

The Lakers can still get the 7th seed. They own the tie breaker over Houston and Golden State. But if both win tonight, then the Lakers are locked in to the 8th seed.

Don't be obtuse. When Lebron speaks to the playoffs, it's about a focus all the way through and how tough it is to repeat. Kobe was literally discussing the prospects of just making it there.

I mean, could you imagine if Lebron was wasting his breath on making guarantees of just making the playoffs? The hate spewed from that would be palpable.

We've had 80 games to see how they fare. They're currently a 1 seed in the West and won the season series 3-1 against the Lakers. I'm not suggesting OKC is coming out of the West as champs this year. I'm not convinced of that yet. However, the Lakers, even with Kobe Bryant, are completely outmatched and stand no chance in a 7 game series - regardless of the fact that Harden has been swapped for Martin.

On face value I agree. The unknown is the absence of Harden. You did not replace him. Martin is not the replacement. The playoffs are not the regular season, O. It's proven nothing in conjunction with the Harden loss. These playoffs will be the litmus test for that loss. But, we stand no chance. Perkins is licking his chops to get at Gasol & Howard. We have nobody to match up with any quickness whatsoever. All we can do is tip it and take our medicine. It's like the original "Poseidon Adventure" and the 50 foot tidal wave scene. "Oh, my God." - Leslie Nielsen.
That's what we're looking at.

Even that is a lot of wishful boasting. Nothing based in fact. Pop would go immediately to the Hack-a-Howard +++ he'd run us to the death. NYC will immediately lift any restraints after the conclusion of the regular season Wednesday nite. We'll be left to fend for ourselves and our own devices. We have none. tee, hee. But, there is nothing you can do. We did this to ourselves. It commenced with the inexplicable & lurid attraction to Paul & Howard and accelerated with the abandonment of Odom & Fisher. Reality whether you're ringin' or standing in the way of that 50 foot tidal wave is bittersweet. And always will be. Something is lost and something is gained. That's life.

No, we did not replace Harden. He's fairly irreplaceable, aside from 2 or 3 players in the league. And you're right, the playoffs are a whole new game. We shall see how far OKC gets with the absence of Harden. Martin certainly takes up some of the scoring slack, but beyond that it's up to Westbrook to be a reasonably intelligent playmaker - yeah I know, that will get some laughs, but lets face it the guy has been incredible in stretches this season playing some very smart basketball, although the palm to forehead moments still do exist for Westbrook. One advantage we do have this season over last is a backup point guard who I believe is a fantastic playmaker and very, very good backup PG in Jackson. If you haven't seen Jackson's playmaking and finishing at the rim the last month or so, you're missing some good stuff from a upcomin PG.

You do it all the time - we all do. It's the nature of having opinions since none of that is fact. It's speculation up until the point it eventually happens.
I don't disguise my hate for Kobe and most Laker fans. I also respect Kobe's game, but I am a realist when it comes to assessing him for what he is and not what he's perceived to be.

lakers have massive experience for the playoffs and even though they've bungled the regular season, they'll still be a tough matchup for any team imho. spurs will need some warm-ups before they can reach their best forms, and the rockets won't be a bad aperitif for the first round tbh.
