It's unfortunate that this happened, and if an eight year old child was killed as a result of this... that is truly sad. But what else is sad, in a completely different way, is how nearly 90% of the people I know on Facebook spammed this news and their corresponding social commentary on it all day long. Tomorrow half of them will be back to their regular routine of posting stuff on Facebook that only matters to them. By the end of the week, all of them will be back to normal. It's only because this took place in the United States at a public, televised event that this is getting any buzz. People die every day. People kill other people every day. Been happening since Day 1 of humanity (long fucking time no matter what side of the evolution debate you fall on).

Just because you live in an affluent area of a developed country doesn't mean you have a constitutional right to live until you're 95. If a bomb goes off in Austin tomorrow, killing/injuring myself and others... I'd just be one of several faces plastered across your TV set on the news. Won't make me any less dead or injured. Won't make the world any less prone to killing and injuring human beings.

no suspect has been taken into custody yet. 2 people killed including an 8yr old boy and 120 injured. the bombs had to be 2-3 kilos worth of TNT and surely they couldn't have been concealed in the bomber's pockets, yet the cops still have no clue who fucking plotted & carried out the whole shit. timothy mcveigh was only arrested because he was driving too fast, cop stopped him to give him a speeding ticket and happened to find out that he was driving w/o a licence, even at that point the cop or anyone else still had no idea he was the bomber or shit. dude was taken to the police station and was later recognized as the bomber

whats the chances of home grown terrorism at work or some group has there own agenda? u do know new gun laws just pass through senate a few days ago....nra?
I doubt it's that. My guess it they are looking closely at the victims, as to who may want them one dead. A mass attack is one way to cover up a murder attempt. I say this is plausible, because usually, some group wants to take responsibility.

I suggest that people stop letting shit like this show up on their radar only when it happens in the United States. Or only when it happens in a cowardly way such as a remote explosive detonation or a school shooting. People die everyday in this country and every other country in this world. How many other stories of people being killed made the news yesterday? How are the deaths and injuries of the Boston Marathon victims worth any more than the deaths and injuries that shallow, low-life, shitbag human beings caused to innocent human beings yesterday? Did Tragedy just take a day off everywhere else yesterday because it saw the Boston Marathon news on TV? Bet your weight in gold it didn't.

If it does turn out to be Islam freaks is it time for all those..."oh no it's just a few...."...to finally figure it out?

You do realize that even if 99% of Islam is peaceful, that 1% comprises 15,000,000 people, right?

1%? Has to be more than that in one organization alone. I could be wrong but 1% of Islamic people seems a little low to me.

They are peaceful, but funneling money to those who do their bidding for them.

Like I've said before, if you want to know what a religion is really about, practice it zealously. That's the intention of the religion. Even the Bible was developed as an instrument of zealous adherence, not a in flight reading material book. Americans and many other naive, sheltered people seem to have adopted the false notion that these religions are just diet plans.

Because people realize that they might die in a car accident, in a mugging, etc etc. Thinking that you might die while watching a sporting event doesn't usually show up on the radar. And not many of those people die to explosions either. This event will have far ranging repercussions, far more so than most other deaths.

Interesting. It looks like either it was an accident, or the explosives were designed to maim and not kill. Most the ball bearings apparently came out at leg level. Lots of legs amputated or blown off.

I'm not trying to undermine the event. I'm perfectly aware that it's unnatural and uncommon to go to an event like that and say "I sure hope a bomb doesn't go off this time." I just don't subscribe to the notion that one loss of life takes precedence over the loss of another. Sometimes people die that don't deserve to. All we can really do as a race is work harder to get people help when they need it instead of writing it off as mental conditions or "Oh he just didn't get enough hugs from his dad, that's why he became a murderer" and other truly ignorant shit about why any of this kind of stuff happens in our world.

You're from that area so I know this hits closer to home with you than it does to other SpursTalk users. I'm sure yesterday you were very concerned about the well being of people you love in Boston and I wouldn't want to have to go through that myself. I'm just saying that some people's reaction to this is borderline selfish, or at least extremely nationalist. I'm sick of seeing certain types of people go off about how tragic it is when American life is senselessly lost when bad shit happens all around the world every day of every year for as long as humans have been around.

I agree with all of that. I wish more people actually volunteered in their local community rather than just say something on Facebook. That said, a lot of local people DID help out yesterday. Red Cross got a ton of donations online, and the local blood banks were full with people donating.

I think it's easier to lament loss in dynamic situations like this, than it is to lament loss of say, vehicular accidents. (Even though gruesome car wrecks are used... I remember going through those "everyone get in the gym and hear from someone who barely survived a drunken driving experience" events.) And the fact that an 8 year old died won't help with sensationalism.

I'm actually going to Haiti this summer to do some charity work with a group from my church that a few of my church buds talked me into. It sounds like a great experience and I don't have anything going on, so why not donate my time to a better cause? The way people use social media to think they're making an impact on real causes, like changing their profile pic to the damn equals sign, or "liking" the "Help Victims of [insert tragedy here]" page is actually doing something when a donation would at least be the lowest possible effort you could put into it. You're right on the money, dude. If you believe in what you're saying and want to open your mouth and talk about it, go do something about it first. It takes like, six letters from constituents to get your congressman to do something. Six.

I love America, but my own people piss me off half the time.

No way it was an accident. Not with 2 coordinated blasts. My wild ass guess is that it was home-grown terrorism given that it was on Tax day and in Boston where it is Patriot Day I believe. This would be consistent with how an anti-government group operates I believe.

This is also the same week as the Waco Siege and OKC Bombing anniversary. It's still too early to jump to conclusions but if I had to bet on it I'd say domestic terrorism.

It's silly to think that Facebook updates and community service/donations are mutually exclusive. I know plenty of Facebook spammers who are active active volunteers and donors, and being part of social media campaigns is something they enjoy doing.

Don't be the guy who volunteers for the first time in his life and then goes around telling everybody else they don't enough for the community. That's annoying for the people who didn't just recently get "talked into it."

There is a gigantic difference between participating in a social media campaign and deciding to only give a shit about things when the skid marks of humanity come out to play and do evil things like blow up the Boston Marathon. Just like you know people who do try to make a difference whilst spamming Facebook all day, I know plenty of people who last provided rich social commentary following the Newtown shooting. That wasn't the last time tragedy struck, even in the United States, whose citizens are apparently the only ones worth feeling sorry for.

And think what you want about me. I do a decent amount of local charity, mostly with trying to help teenagers not try drugs because of the negative impact drugs had on my life and future. And spending $1,700 out of my own pocket for travel, lodging and food for the Haiti trip is what I had to get talked into. I'm only 26, I don't have an extremely high paying job and that kind of money is a sacrifice. Contrary to what you may believe volunteers don't get a free ride all the time. I just don't feel like I'm above bitching about a price tag on something like that.

Brah the fact that death is an everyday thing doesnt make what happened yesterday any less fucked up. Im sure the fact that most evil acts are usually done in the darkness while this was intentionally done out in the open has alot to do with why this makes people shiver more than the average crime. Evil rearing its head into an international, family event makes me more uncomfortable than Jamal doing a drive-by on Tyrone tbh.

Dont see how not donating time/money to help this cause makes people attention whores either. I likely wont do either of those but that doesnt mean I dont feel for the people that were affected by this. The day people dont acknowledge stuff like this, whether it be for just a day or a week, and continue going on as if nothing happened is the day this world will have gone to complete shit tbh.

Not sure where my post went. SC cut and pasted my response to the same question earlier. Not saying the bombs were an accident. Just that unless the bombs were badly designed it looks like the intent was to maim as many people as possible and not necessarily kill them.

And you're using the Boston Marathon bombing to provide rich social commentary on Spurstalk (aka social media). You're painting with such a broad brush about people but really you're just complaining about the people you've chosen to surround yourself with—your own social network.

I will think what I want about you, just like you'll think what you want about the people on Facebook during conversations around events like this. For me, I'm annoyed when people promote their volunteer work while complaining about the lack of community involvement they PERCEIVE in everybody else's lives. And yes, giving money is often part of volunteer work depending on the kind of engagement and commitment. Any experienced volunteer knows that and has opened up their wallet in addition to providing service to support what they believe. It's great that you're doing that too, but act like you been there.

To murder several runners using bombs at a sporting event is terrorism.

To murder 175 children using military drones is U.S. policy.

We should accept neither. We should fight against both.

You do realize that even if 99% of Islam is peaceful, that 1% comprises 15,000,000 people, right?

All anyone has to do is look at the history of those middle eastern countries, tribal wars, beheadings as a spectator sport, honor killings, mistreatment of women, a shit load of people who are so totally fucked they really do buy into...this life is nothing so blow somebody up along with yourself and...boom paradise~~~ Ever notice we never see an Olympics or any kind of world gathering in that region of the world, why is that, yep, it's fucked.

I get a kick out of..."it's just the fundamentalists"...well no shit. Which tells us what the fundamentals of Islam are, yep. death to those dreaded infidels.

Far more than 1% are looking to kill somebody.

Interesting. It looks like either it was an accident, or the explosives were designed to maim and not kill. Most the ball bearings apparently came out at leg level. Lots of legs amputated or blown off.
Not a conventional design either. Ball bearings in a pressure cooker.

So where did we hold those beheadings? Saudia Arabia has them on a Saturday in the town court. Mistreatment of women? When did we battle Canada?

Do some research moron, ok?

4 bombs smallish enough to fit in bags at 4 different locations could easily be placed by one person amid the controlled chaos of a heavily attended sporting event. All dude has to do then is walk back to the car and punch some numbers in a phone before driving off. Tricky part would be making them all on his own without arousing suspicion. If anyone else is involved, that's probably where they played a role.

Iirc, the Olympic park bomber was the dude who was blowing up abortion clinics

To murder several runners using bombs at a sporting event is terrorism.

To murder 175 children using military drones is U.S. policy.

We should accept neither. We should fight against both.

I'm a conspiracy theorist to an extent, but you're reaching dumbass level. The reason why this is getting so much attention compared to any bombings in iraq is that fact that its in actual US soil. Go to iraq and see what get's more exposure.

The unfortunate reality is that, people are just going to forget about this in about a week or so. Generally, those who show "care" on social media are just attention whoring idioits.

I wonder how long till they find the suspect..If they don't the would most likely blame it on foreing terrorism.

3 things

1) These are ILLEGAL occupations and bombings in countries we have peace treaties with, that shouldn't be happening in the first place.

2) One man's "Collateral Damage" is another man's son.

I am however interested in you providing links to the the actual US Congressional Approvals to those illegal wars. I'll wait for exactly that.
Please provide. Thanks :tuNo problem.

And the NATO and UN treaties I already listed above.

I'm not crazy that congress abdicated their power to declare war to the executive, but that's their fault for being pussies.

You're welcome.

the bombing itself ain't much more special than what happens on a daily basis in iraq or syria, but it took place in the United States which made the whole difference. americans are the most valuable people of the world and two american lives should have the equivalent worth of 20 lives of chinks or 200 iraqi lives. plus such attacks will do further damage to american people's sense of security which's already fragile

lol 74, 230 postsSee, the only thing I did was call you out on your claims that there were four peace treaties that didn't exist and that the US created al Qaeda. It was easy for me because I knew they were completely wrong.

Seems they have video from local stores of the suspect (s), but no arrest, according to the FBI site.

Contrary to widespread reporting, no arrest has been made in connection with the Boston Marathon attack. Over the past day and a half, there have been a number of press reports based on information from unofficial sources that has been inaccurate. Since these stories often have unintended consequences, we ask the media, particularly at this early stage of the investigation, to exercise caution and attempt to verify information through appropriate official channels before reporting

http://www.fbi.gov/news/updates-on-investigation-into-multiple-explosions-in-boston/updates-on-investigation-into-multiple-explosions-in-boston

I almost thought it was, the coat, hat, and the pants look identical but the suspect was wearing a white T shirt, and it doesn't look to be that on that person.

Suspect 2 is Sunil Tripathi imo, missing college kid from Brown university. A chick that went to HS with him pointed it out. They look nearly identical. And the FBI has been involved since he disappeared possibly cause of a cryptic message

Found another picture of suspect 2 getting away during explosion.

within that thread there is a link to an ABC news story about a missing student that looks like suspect 2
