hi folks, i'm finally making the trip from new york to san antonio. i found decent flight/hotel packages but i'm asking for assistance planning my trip.

1-can you suggest a 3 star hotel somewhat near the stadium?

2-when do playoff tickets go on sale? am i gonna end up spending my entire savings on mezzanine tickets?

thanks for your help

If it's anywhere near the AT&T Center, you'll be staying at a flophouse.

Yeah there isnt anywhere decent to stay around the AT&T Center. And Playoff tickets went on sale about 2 weeks ago or so for Games 1 and 2...

They are not joking with you. The area around the AT&T center is kind of poor. Stay downtown and either rent a car or find a hotel that has free shuttles to the game. Unfortunately I can't tell you of any hotels that have Spurs game shuttles but I know that some do.

lol @ the idea of a hotel next to the AT&T center. Would be in the middle of a ghetto.

There are several open lots across the street from AT&T, just bring a tent and make it a camping trip! Kids will love it!

Try aloft San Antonio Airport.

It's 20 minutes to AT&T

I just stayed there, it was good. Lots of restaurants close by and shopping.

Too many ghetto brothers around the At&t Center my friend. Like everyone mentioned there is some nice hotels downtown, but the prices may be out the roof the next two weeks because of Fiesta. There isn't a great public transportation that goes through the At&t Center. Don't know about any park and rides downtown to the At&t Center but if you catch a taxi it would be probably a 20 minute+ drive because of traffic. Have fun and hopefully we make a deep run.

Dude is coming down from New York and you guys act like he knows that the area around AT&T is ghetto. On top of that dude asks for a 3 star and nuggas are bringing up staying on the Riverwalk during Fiesta.

Stick with anything by the Airport. Call a few places and see if they offer shuttles to the games. If I have time today then I might make a call or two for you.

Do not stay by the AT&T center, the place is seriously in the ghetto. If you take the road behind the AT&T center you will see hookers on each corner who look awfully young. Its extremly shady over there. Stay somewhere half decent like downtown or by the airport. Aloft is nice and pretty cheap, or the Valencia downtown is nice.

that's a pretty darn good choice.

If you want to stay downtown here are few hotels I would consider in the 3star range:

Crockett
Tropicano
Residence Inn
Courtyard by Marriot

If you are trying to save money then rent a car and stay by the airport. You can get to the game in 10 - 15 minutes depending on the time you leave. If you want to have more fun then go downtown but you will be paying more. I agree with everyone else, I can think of one hotel that is within walking distance, you might get shot, but it is within walking distance and its a piece of crap from what I can see.

AT&T center is so terribly located. Just get a place downtown to take in the sights, and expect to drive a little.

Agree with everyone that says avoid staying downtown and just stay by the airport.

one hidden cost of staying downtown is paying for parking at many hotels there.

Gunther Hotel....historical, downtown. I'd recommend anywhere downtown if you are coming all that way. See the place...eat at Rosarios!

Actually I wouldn't recommend the Gunther lol.

Overpriced, extremely small rooms and there are absolutely no extras like microwave, fridge, free breakfast or even free internet.

My stay sucked there sucked, tbh.

Wow, sorry for your bad experience! I stayed there years ago and enjoyed the vibe of the place. There are probably more spacious and luxurious newer hotels for the same price. Maybe stay at the Omni, Hyatt, or some place like that and go on a ghost hunt at the Gunther! :lol Have to admit I was impressed with their history more than some might be. Still think downtown would be a cooler cultural experience if you're coming from NY...

Funny thing is they still tore down the projects.

I appreciate the history and culture of the Gunther. The telephone board and mail shoots were cool. Gorgeous lobby, nice restaurant, bar.

The room itself sucked though. I've had better stays at Super 8.

Ah, fuck the city; they kept trying to fold in a rebuilding of the convention center that was going to double the price and put the arena vote in danger of failure. Glad the Spurs told them to go fuck themselves and went with the county plan instead.

Should have been where Toyota Field, the STAR soccer complex, the new NEISD stadium, and all that is over there right off 35 and Wurzbach Parkway. Built around that old quarry.... would have been so awesome location wise, and in the way that it looks. I remember seeing the sketches of the plans, they were sweet.

Hilton Palacio Del Rio.. On the Riverwalk, short walk to restaurants and mall and $20 cab ride to AT&T center.. 4 star hotel, got a room there last year for $81 a night via Priceline.

Yeah, the arena would have been better basically anywhere but its current location. The only good thing is that it's easy to control the traffic. Guess we'll get another chance in 20 years or so.

Wasn't that the 1998 plan that just got killed at the ballot box? Boy did the Spurs come close to ending up like the Sonics.

Maybe, I seem to remember hearing something more recently about NEISD having something to do with killing that plan tho... Because they already had their sights set on that new football stadium. I went to school in NEISD, but screw them if that was ever really the case.

And Thank God for Tim Duncan, right?
