Enjoy your tickets, then.

First off, it's 1604 - where over the past six months, there have been a extraordinary amount of deadly accidents, thrusting the Ex-News to front page it. With that, the next day, there was increased police presence along the northwest to northeast side of town along 1604.

Well, that and it's clearly marked coming off the highways of reduced speeds (you know, the big yellow signs that say Speed Limit: 45 MPH)

#1. Those big yellow signs are not posted speed limits. Only the white ones count. I know this comes as a dismay to Johnny "I'll chop up some Sushi" Blaze, but the the yellow signs mean jack.

#2 The limit is only 45 on the Access road as you get down torwards Culebra. Otherwise, it's 55 - I THINK - on 151. Unless they are pulling the same shit they pulled with Wurzbach Parkway where that highway was 45 so that cops could nail people on it for awhile. It's now be raised, but not before I got hit with a ticket on a 45mph highway.

Mijo
07-08-2005, 08:57 AM
no, i had not exited yet. Right about the time you pass Wiseman Rd. headed north to 1604, the speed limit changes from 60 to 45 mph. It's not exactly an exit but the freeway winds and becomes the feeder road to 1604.

Actually, I think that may be where the argument arises.

Technically, the handbook says that yellow signs are a guideline for how fast you can go - and the difference between those and the white signs are that the latter's speed is the fastest speed you are "permitted" to go - so you could infer that you can get tickets for the white signs but not for the yellow signs.

It's been a while since driver's ed, though, so I could be wrong, but the handbook seems to support that you shouldn't get a ticket for something the yellow signs say.

Where's my Sushi? Damnit JB! Build me a railroad!

My old roomate who is now a police officer explained that to me when he was going through the traffic code courses. Cops will right incorrect tickets all the time, though. The problem is that most people just pay the fine and assume they were guilty of whatever they were cited for. If you have any doubts, take it to court. Worst case is that you have to pay the fine you would have to pay either way. Best case? It gets dismissed.

I recently got a speeding ticket too....62 in a 55....I was driving on a highway, and a cop was following me a ways behind just waiting for me to fuck up

I noticed the drop to 55, decreased my speed to 55, stopped staring at my speedometer, went down a hill, didnt remember to adjust my foot, and before i could start breaking the cop instantly flashed his lights pulled me over.

I did what my father always told me to do, talked to the Pig with respect, and showed absolutely no attitude.
The motherfucker almost gave me another ticket for having incorrect address on my liscense.

I have to agree with tx3rdcoast in his hatred for cops, I seriously wanted to steal his gun and pop him in his fucking face, so many people behind him and in front of me could have been caught going more than SEVEN miles over the limit but he stays a distance behind me and waits for ME to fuck up....

Then he talks down to me and obviously seems to be getting wood by the way he's owning me....god I fucking hate pigs

All of them must have the smallest penis' in the fucking world for being able to thrive on what they do....sorry to bring up sexual innuendos again haha

How many times have you gotten behind the wheel after a couple of beers ... or sped like a mofo and not gotten caught? When you KNEW you were breaking the law? Consider yourself lucky you don't get caught everytime you fuck up, not because that time you only happened to be doing 7 over.

When you figure that the majority of his job consists of dealing with the dregs of society and smartassed little punks giving him attitude, you might cut him a little slack on his lack of a sense of humor. I don't think customer service is in his job description. :lol

Deffered Adjutication mainly applies to city municipalities. It is basically probation where you pay the fine but the ticket does not go on your driving record if you do not get another ticket while on probation.

The length of probation varies from city to city. Castle Hills is 30 days. UC is 90 days, and Millford(north of Waco) is 60 days. Don't ask me how I know; let's just say I'm on the annual plan at Comedy Defensive Driving!!

BTW, Bexar County does not offer DA!

I have gotten deferred adjudication within the last year in San Antonio...basically they just put the charge on hold and you are on "probation" for six months. If you don't get another ticket during that six months they drop the charge and it doesn't go on your driving record. You still have to pay the full fine. I am told that you can go on your court day and ask the judge for it yourself but I never trusted that. I just give my lawyer $200 plus whatever the fine is and he handles it.

I'd be a liar if I said never. I realize this is his job, but he was following me for a while. Its my stupidity for not completely eyeballing my speedometer the entire time he followed me...but it is a steep drop off, I garuntee if he just stopped focusing on me he would have found someone speeding "like a mofo" as opposed to me when i really did try to stay the limit but i forgot a fundamental property of physics

I only say this because that's how I comforted myself when I got one a few years ago, when I got really pissed off about it, too.

I'm guilty of just about every moving violation possible from behind the wheel but vehicular manslaughter, so if I'm only getting a ticket for 15 over the limit then I am very lucky.

Unless you've done it within the past year, I would Defensive Driving that shiz.

Sitting in a dumbass room and watching crappy movies for 6 hours beats shelling out 200-300 bucks anyday. Plus it will save you insurance costs later, just like DA.

You do not need a lawyer to get deffered adjudication. You can get it for any violation except DWI, DUI, etc.

It's really not a hard thing to do. You go down to the municipal court, go in for abou 30 minutes, drop 150 or so for the probation costs, and make sure you don't get a ticket for the same thing within the time frame. Depending on how many tickets you have, and the severity of the offense, the time can vary from 30 days to six months.

Also, you just have to not get a ticket for the same offense. If you go in and get DA on speeding, but get pulled over 2 months later while on probation for improper lane change, it doesn't count against you.

The people down there deal with tons of cases a day. It's not about law enforcement, it's bout them making some money. It's very easy to make sure these things don't go on your record.

I was a stupid 20 year old who loved to street race. I spent lots of time down there at municipal court with tickets of all different shapes and sizes, yet not one is on my record.

You might be correct Kori. Mine was for an open container. Really stupid situation. I had been working in the yard and took a break to go to the airport with my wife to pick someone up. She was driving and I grabbed a beer out of the fridge before we left. We were trying to cheat the "circle the block" thing and pulled up and stopped for a minute or so near the taxi stand...one of the cops on the curb apparently saw the beer and called in the swat team...next thing I knew we were surrounded by three cars with lights flashing. It was the only beer in the car, and I was obviously not inebriated or driving but they still gave me an open container ticket. It was just like a traffic ticket for speeding....same form, same court. They were rude and agressive but I just figured I was stupid and it served me right. Anyway...I didn't want cops behind me in the future punching my plate into the computer and seeing a container violation and pulling me over to hassle me so I just hired a lawyer to take care of it.

No, seriously, not a single one. I asked for a lot of trials, and got several dismissed that way. Asking for a Stenographer and Jury Trial after having the date pushed back as far as possible and then rescheduling it can make things happen.

It was a shitload of effort, but that was because I had no other options, so I had to use the system against itself. If I could have just gotten DA - I had already used it several times in recent history and the prosecuters refused to give it to me - I would have paid and had it taken care of. But like I said, I was really stupid on the road back then.

That's not necessarily true! It depends on the city court! In Castle Hills, it is "for any moving violation" . This may not be true for other cities; I don't know for sure. DA in Bexas County, must be new because as of last year (01/04), that was not an option given by JP prec. #3.

I've had some funny shit happen to me being pulled over.

I got pulled over downtown years ago and the girl I was dating at the time was in my passenger seat. The cop pulled me over because I accelerated too fast (bullshit) and then because I changed lanes without a blinker. Well, he pulls me over and he's getting my information while the girl sticks her body out of the window to wave and yell at some friends of ours who drove by.

Cop just looks at me and goes "Is there a reason you can't drive and act normal?"

He let me go without even a warning, and just said to act normal or he'd find me.

Another time, I got pulled over downtown by a bike cop because I was racing. I moved into the lane where it's buses only and brave (psycho) bike cop jumps out in front of me with his bike in front of him as if it's some sheild and it's going to stop my car from running over him. I slam on the breaks and come to rest maybe 2 inches from his bike.

So his partner comes over to my passanger window, looks down and says "I hope you're ready to go to jail, asshole." They give me shit for about 5 minutes, then the guy wants to know what I'm doing racing a sedan. I used to drive an Alero that I made some mods to and ran much faster than any 4 door car should. So we spent the next 10 minutes looking under my hood so I could show him what I did.

Then they wrote me a ticket and sent me on my way. :lol They so made me belive I was getting off with nothing and they gave me a damn ticket.

But this is the funniest story. One night after going to midnight rodeo with aforementioned girl, I got pulled over on Blanco. I was going maybe 10 over, and I was really nice to the cop. Actually, I'm always really nice to them. It's the best way to get off scott free. Anyhow, he goes back to his car with my license, and I layed my head on the steering wheel and had my hands in my lap. I guess it looked from back there as though I was praying because when he came up, he said "You were praying, weren't you boy?" So naturally I play along. "Yes sir!" "Well you thank god for this one son. Go on now and drive safe."

So I get in my car, and I turn around to get back on Blanco and as I'm pulling up to his car he motions for me to stop. Then he goes "You go to church on Sunday, because god knows. And if you don't, I'll know."

And that was that.

:lol

I didn't go to church that sunday, BTW.

I spend a LOT of time on one of the most boring stretches of interstate in Texas - that being I-10 between San Antonio and Houston (family lives in Houston) - and I have no cruise control. Which is why I have two speeding tickets on that stretch of interstate since I moved here in 2002 going 90 the first time and 88 the second.

I should, however, have taken my first ticket to court, because the cop actually got in my passenger seat before I had even taken my documents out of the glove compartment - so I had to reach over him .. a little awkward - they're not even supposed to get in your car. But I was stupid, and didn't think about it until after I had already paid the ticket and taken defensive driving. I hope that Seguin cop got busted for something eventually, the bastard.

My first offense in the state of Texas was when i was lighting a cigarette, did a rolling stop at a stop sign, got pulled over for running the stop sign and was only 17 so got a TOBACCO MIP too....

Then the fucking cop was like do your parents know you smoke? Do they allow it? Well then you just go right on ahead and smoke in your house, smoke all you want, just don't let me catch you.

I was like so i can break the law all i want, and you're okay with that, just as long as I dont-get-caught!! genius!!!

i hate cops

I don't have a license plate on the frontside of my Thunderbird, so if I ever happen to come across the situation, I'll just have to be sure to speed away in reverse! :lol

Are you in Texas? If so, that a 'ticketable' offense. In Texas, both license plates are required.

Ok, here's the deal with DA. For the City of SA you can get DA if you haven't had a ticket in 90 days, and the DA will only count of you don't get another in the next 90 days. A ticket that was going to cost me $209.00 in fines, cost me only $188.00 to have a lawyer go down to the courthouse for me and file a DA for me. They send me the paper work and the ticket doesn't go on my record. Defensive driving is fine and dandy, but you can only take it once a year and it can cost nearly as much as the lawyer. DD also takes more time to complete than just dealing with the lawyer. If any wants the name of the lawyer I used, just PM me.

Yeah, I know it is, and I don't really seem to care much. :spin I haven't had it on there for about 2 years, and I've never once had a cop so much as mention it to me. I've even been pulled over a couple of times since then.

I didn't even take it off, it fell off a long time ago and I thought it looked better without it.

I just keep it in my trunk now. If a cop ever gives me shit about it, I'll tell him it fell off a 'couple days ago' and I 'haven't had a chance to fix it'

If he's gonna be big enough asshole to give me the ticket for it, then I guess it was meant to be.

I've gotten pulled over for just that. I had no idea at the time it was illegal, and the dealer never gave me the front plate. It was my birthday, so he let me off with a warning.

Talk about timing. :king

You see all these new-fangled hot rods on the streets without them, so I guess I just assume cops have bigger things to worry about. I guess if I ever get pinched for it, it will be my own fault, but meh.

Seriously, unless you ARE zooming around backwards, I don't see what good a front license plate is going to do for a cop anyways.

Nope. It's still a law in Texas and is a ticketable offense. Does that mean that officers give tickets to everyone who is missing a license plate. No.

It's just a ticketable offense.

Really, it just depends on how pissy the cop you are dealing with happens to feel that day.

More often than not, though, they probably won't notice or won't care.

I've done it myself both times I've gotten tickets, no big deal. And both were for speeding so you can use DA on it. Save yourself lawyer fees.

Ya screw cops, where would we be without them. :rolleyes God forbid you'll be in trouble and need one.

I can't take DD because it hasn't been a year yet, and I dont want my insurance to get any higher because a Pig was trying to meet his quota I just ended my DA last week. I pleaded fo DA at least 3 different times over the last 5 years. Although there were all at least a year apart. From my experience, the probation period is 90 days but the last time the judge noticed my clean record and reduced my fine from $250.00 to $100.00 and also reduced the probation period from 90 days to 60 days. I've always shown up on my court day to ask for the DA as well. Paying a lawyer is not necessary.

I actually got stopped for going 120+ once and got out with a warning. I came over the top of a bridge on Beltway 8 in Pasadena near Gilleys and they had a full fledged speed trap working on the downslope...ran right into it before I could slow down...1 cop car shooting radar and a half dozen cops on foot on the shoulders flagging people over...I was driving a new 280ZX (ancestor to the current 350ZX) and immediately downshifted and hammered the brake and pulled on over because I knew I was cooked...luckily the cop I pulled over next to was my age and he had just bought a ZX exactly like mine the week before...they had me at 126 and the first thing he wanted to know was how much pedal I had left in it...LOL...we got to talking cars, women etc. and he ended up writing me up with a warning for 55 in a 50...

I came over the top of a bridge on Beltway 8 in Pasadena near Gilleys and they had a full fledged speed trap working on the downslope...ran right into it before I could slow down...3 hot female cops were in car shooting radar and a half dozen hot brunette cops on foot on the shoulders flagging me over...I was driving a new Lamborghini Countach (ancestor to the current Diablo) and immediately downshifted and hammered the brake and pulled on over because I knew I was cooked...luckily the first hot and busty lady cop I pulled over next to had just turned 18 that day and she had just bought a Countach exactly like mine the week before...they had me at 186 and the first thing she wanted to know was how much I wanted to have rough sex with her and the other 10 hot highway patrol ladies right there on the hood of my car...LOL...we got to talking cars, three ways with women etc. and she ended up writing her phone number down with a warning for that I hadn't finished satisfying her and her friends just yet....
