When I was a kid I thought Summerall was boring. Now I think he was understated and understood it was about the game and not him. RIP Pat.

He was solid on the Madden games growing up, but I rarely heard him call a live football game. RIP

One of my favorite broadcasters. R.I.P.

his subtlety made him an iconic figure amongst play by play announcers. a complete contrast to the marv alberts of the generation that followed him. rip.

RIP I grew up listening to him call almost every Cowboys game.

He retired, and the worst to ever do it, Joe Buck, took over.

They didn't call CBS the Cowboys Broadcasting System for nothing.

Madden:

“In all the time I worked with him, we never had one argument,” he said. “That was because of him. I’m not the easiest person to get along with, but he was.”
“You know in TV some of these guys have all the numbers and stats and notes? Pat would come to a broadcast with nothing. It was all in his head. He didn’t have anything. Could you see another play-by-play guy today doing that?

“He had that thing of, in one sentence he could say what would take others two or three paragraphs to say. He’d hit it right on the head. That was why he was so great to work with.”
