The National Basketball Association 2013 Playoffs begin next Saturday, April 20th, so we figured that this was a good time to release the loyalty rankings for NBA teams from our 21st annual Brand Keys Sports Fan Loyalty Index.
Those of you who have loyally followed the Brand Keys Sports Fan Loyalty Index will remember that it was designed to help professional sports team management identify what drives fan loyalty in their home and national markets, with insights that enable league and team management to identify areas, particularly the emotional ones, that need strategic brand coaching. While only 16 of the 30 NBA teams will make the playoffs – eight from each conference – Brand Keys assesses all teams by interviewing fans from the teams’ own DMAs, which provides an apples-to-apples comparison of the intensity with which fans (within a team’s DMA) support the home team versus corresponding loyalty values for fans of other teams or other leagues in that market. Currently the 2013 NBA top-5 and bottom-5 brand standings are as follows:
Top-5- 2013 2012
1. Miami Heat (#6)
2. San Antonio Spurs (#1)
3. New York Knicks (#10)
4. Boston Celtics (#2)
5. Oklahoma City Thunder/
Brooklyn Nets (#5 and #14)

and son what exactly does this have to do with me? (considering you chose to put my name in the title). I mean don't get me wrong I appreciate your fan support and all, but if this was some sort of an attempt to mock the Hornets then you didn't do too well.

so we weren't in the top 5 or the bottom 5 of the "most loyal fans in the NBA" according to this list. your point?

spurs have the loyalest fans no doubt. they might not be the smartest but no one could doubt their genuine love for this team imho. by comparison, mavs fans generally have better basketball knowledge than spurs fans but their loyalty adherence is usually very frail. they could celebrate their team's victories like that one in 2011, but when their team struggles to perform (like what happens in this season) they will start basing their team and join the bandwagon of another team. its fair to say most mavs fans don't have no faith in their team imho, dallas ain't a basketball city after all

What about the Bulls? They sell out the United Center even when the Bulls are shitty or average.

Maybe you should have a team for longer than a year and a half before trying to talk about loyalty. Also, try having a mediocre team for several years before talking about loyalty.

FTR I am not saying that you guys might not have loyal fans. I am just saying that you can't really make that determination yet.

Oklahoma was fanatical about the Hornets even though they were a struggling non-permanent team. Time won't matter to the people of Oklahoma, it's an extremely close knitted community and will always see the Thunder organization as apart of that family. You can tell me it's just a honeymoon phase, but I find it hard to believe that a fanbase that would welcome back a team that got humiliated by the Heat in the finals the way they did will be fair weather fans in a decade or so.

You are equating a honeymoon with loyalty. Also, it was the first taste of victory that OK had. Give it about 10 years and lets see. Like I said, you might be right, but you can't really talk about how loyal you are to your wife if you have only been married for a week and six days.
