I'd rather trade him here for Gortat & Beasley. Barring that, I'd sign on. Unless he wins the 16 afore anybody else. Then I'll stand in strict abeyance.

Beasley? Gortat is quite serviceable but trading Gasol for Beasley is practically like replacing Anthony Hopkins on the set with Marlon Wayans.

Beasley still has a future (bleak) in the league. He needs to play under the right system and under the right coach however. Mike D'Antoni is not the right coach but his system could elevate Beasley's chucking to new heights, if he hits a decent percentage, good, if not then I can see him riding the pine and D'Antoni totally destroying his confidence through the media which he's known to do. It's a hit or miss really.

OTOH, Lakers could use Beasley's offense. Think Jamison but younger with a low IQ! He can shoot as much as he wants with the second unit ala JR Smith during his Denver days. I tell you this, if someone can tap into Beasley's head and get him straight, he'll be an awesome piece for a championship team. Dude can score for sure.

The Lakers would basically be this year's Bucks if they dumped Pau and traded for Beasley.... two team-killing chuckers ruining any semblance of an offense and a criminally underused big man who plays lockdown D when healthy....

Rules and regulations as in trading players that are on your roster. Gotcha. Also you of all people should know the biggest aspect of trades is contracts/salaries, and with Splitter and Neal set to be on 0 year 0 dollar contracts, it makes it tough to analyze. But fuck it i'll play along. I'll take Gasol over Splitter and Neal right now. Now if he tears another plantar fascia...

IF it were possible, I'd do it. But it's not. Gasol makes too much. Even if we S&T both players we wouldn't be close to the $20+ million Gasol makes. But if the Lakers amnesty him, I could see the Spurs using cap space to get him. Especially if some team tries to offer Splitter a contract starting at 12-14 million. If Splitter's price goes over $10-11 million, I think the Spurs let him walk and hope that Gasol or Boozer get amnestied, so they can sign them on the cheap..

i know we need more youth and Gasol is approaching TOSB status, but I think Pop would use him better than anyone other than Phil Jackson, plus monitor his minutes very well. hopefully Jim Buss is dumb enough to let it happen. but I agree, I doubt they let him go.

First we'll see if we can package him in a deal with Rondo....we need a PG that can also play the 2 at times like Rondo....Pau's services will be redundant next year once we get J- Hill back and give Clark some more PT...I'd even say sign Josh Smith if we can unload Artest in a deal with ATL.

If I'm LA I'm targeting Smith and Rondo to play along side Kobe and Dwight...that would put us back in title contention. and FAST.... Rondo instantly shuts down all that CP3, WBrook, and Parker guard penetration

Pau is STILL their best trade chip and next season will also be a massive expiring contract. Amnestying is stupid since they'll have zero cap room assuming Dwight is retained at 20 mil per year even after Pau is waived.

Heck, even if the Lakers amnesty albatross contract Kobe, once they resign Dwight they're over the cap so they STILL can't make big signings :lol
Dwight 20
Pau 19
Nash 9
MWP 8
Blake 4
Duhon 4
Hill 3.5

which gives you a grand total of 67.5 million dollars (69 if you include Jokie Meeks and his team option). With a salary cap somewhere to be around 60-61 million, they can't do shit. They'll have the mini-midlevel exception of 3 years 9 million, and the ability to sign players to the veteran's minimum. thats it. so you'd have pretty much the roster you see on the court now, with one cheap player added to the mix :lol

If they amnesty Pau, they're in even worse shape roster-wise and are limited to the same contracts stated above.

As you all may know, every guy on the roster will be an expiring contract except Dwight (of course, assuming he stays) and Nash, so we could see a LOT of midseason wheeling and dealing from Mitch. So basically their only real chance of being serious contenders next year is to acquire huge parts via trade and hope they all mesh perfectly in time for the stretch run. Otherwise, it will pretty much be a tank season with a ceiling for 1 or 2 rounds of playoffs, and pray LeBron jumps ship

Lakers won't amnesty Kobe. He has a huge following of be@ner, slope and chimp fans who buy NBA shit. The media gathers around him even if he's not playing. Not sure what Rondo's health is ...but of course Lakers should consider that deal. I dont like Rondo his FT and jumpshot drives me nuts ...But PG has been a weak spot pretty much every season minus a few Nick Van exel seasons since Magic retired.

Pau is a great player and with KG to play fake thug for him would probably be very effective tbh ...

Helped when Ainge threw that ball into Elie's face way back when. Horry moved to take vengeance. "No, let him go." Elie said. Later on Horry showed up here where Ainge was the coach, and threw a wet towel in Ainge's face on the bench during a game. They ran 'em off to Los Angeles for Ceballos. Well, you know the rest of the story. Adelman begged, begged that rockhead CWEBB not to leave Horry. He wouldn't listen. Now, I want you to listen to this fucking horn as that shot comes in...

good point. but as this year has proven, their supporting cast is so awful, that even a star studded team with dwight, pau, kirby barely squeaked in as a 7th seed. they're going to need a roster overhaul, not just swapping star for star. to have all those moving parts midseason is going to be rough, even for them

This is most likely could be a possibility, especially since Dantoni has no place for him in his offense and trading for other contracts would not save them much money. After watching the charmin soft performance of Splitter in game 1, I think the Spurs should just let him go, keep the cap space, and attempt to bid Gasol off waivers. It would be a crazy gamble but it's not like they'll win anything anyways by paying Splitter $10 million.

The thing with the prospect of picking up Pau is he seems to be a really loyal guy who would love to resign with his current team. He never asked out of Memphis, he never asked out of LA, and he would love the international flavor of the Spurs team. The problem with the waiver is that it is blind bidding, not like an auction. Every team puts in one bid, and nobody knows what anybody else bid. How much would the Spurs be able/willing to bid for Pau? His contract is 19 million, so thats the max any team could bid, but would the Spurs be willing to bid 11 million? 13? Will another team throw 15? We'd have to renounce our rights to Splitter in order to place a decent bid on Pau, and that would throw away our ability to match offers for Splitter in the event we get outbid for Pau. While I'm already dreaming of a Pau pickup, we should realize its highly unlikely the Lakers amnesty Pau. They'd rather send him in some package for Kevin Love, who is likely to bolt out of Minnesota anyway, and the Wolves are probably aware of that, and would love to pair Pau with fellow Spaniard Rubio.

And then, even if Pau is amnestied, I doubt the Spurs brass makes that sort of a risk by renouncing Splitter's rights.

Anyone can have Beasley for free. He's a cancer. We are better, significantly, for every minute he sits on the bench. He has blatantly stopped listening to coaches and teammates. He thinks he knows better than everyone and will not take criticism nor help. Him being a priority last year just got Lance Blanks fired. You want him? Take him. You want to take free-agent-to-be Gortat (who played his best ball with Nash) with him, AND give us Gasol?

OKAY!!

hello dipshit....newsflash...they offered him to us before (and we turned the deal down) so it's plausible they'd offer him again...especially after the get swept by the Knicks and we get Swept by the Spurs...

You must be one of those dumbfucks who believes everything he reads. In that case... you're a faggot

Seriously? They got CP3 before the trade was blocked, they got Howard, they got Shaq, they got Pau. What is it about Rondo that puts him out of reach in that case?

Boston is one of the better run organizations in this league for a reason dumbass. They don't make dumbfuck trades like trading their best player for Pau f'n Gasol. No matter how badly these Kobe dicksuckers dream about it... it ain't happening.

an expiring contract will have considerable trading value and stern will doing everything to help the lakers get another trash-for-fortune deal like the one they did in 08 before he leaves office imho

rondo is overrated and the celtics would probably not make any deal with the lakers due to their past rivalry imho. D-Rose will be a much better option for them lakers, a healthy and mentally ready Rose would be twice the player rondo is tbh.

Imagine the shit fit Kobe would throw if D'Antoni ran Gasol during the offseason. I doubt it would happen.

:lolApparently you forgot that teams over the cap CAN'T receive players via sign & trade anymore. SO you can forget about Josh Smith or any other big name free agent. Lakers are so fucked as long as they have Kobe's albatross contract hindering their every move.

You go home with who brung you, Dunc. Kobe brung us, not once, but, 5 times. He stopped the bleeding in June '10. It wasn't the bright red blood. Uh, uh. It was that dark red artery blood. "Don't worry, Dale, I'll get it." - Kobe.

And you know what, Dunc? He got it.

No denying that, Cully. I understand the loyalty to Kobe. I just find it amusing that Kool thinks the Lakers can do what they've always done and strong arm a team into giving them a top free agent via sign & trade for washed up/spare parts in exchange. The rest of the owners were tired of their tactics and put a stop to it. And that $30 million man ain't making it any easier on them Lakers finding a way around the rules any time soon.

Agreed. The worm has turned. We'll have to find a place further down the trough. [[[It can't be like it was.]]] While it runs it's course I'll enjoy the memories...nobody can take those from me..."The past is never over. It isn't even past."

He's a winner. Those are rare in the NBA.
