The athletes missed about six weeks worth of practice and games before returning to play, on average.

"There are certain guys that have gotten back in a couple weeks and there's other people... that take more like three or four months," Drakos, who wasn't involved in the new study, told Reuters Health.

Wouldnt be surprised if he came back in the WCF/Finals if they get that far tbh. About time the injury bug hit them though, seems like those meth heads are always healthy. Couldnt have happened to a bigger faggot either imo.

That really, really sucks. Don't get the hate for WB. If the Spurs can stay/get healthy, they have a very good shot at the finals. If the Spurs stay focused and don't let the LA series linger, they have a solid shot at Denver or GS. Then with no WB, OKC will have a very tough road ahead for the rest of the post season.

You're kidding about coming back, right? Meniscus tear is about as bad a knee injury as one can get in the NBA, since meniscus is completely dead and never grows back. Think Chris Webber, Brandon Roy, Anfernee Hardaway, etc. Remember how much athleticism Duncan lost after his meniscus tear? Westbrook will never be the same player again.

this isn't necessarily true - depends on a lot of factors i.e. type of meniscus tear, age of patient, etc. - many meniscus tears heal pretty well with repair, especially in younger patients without pre-existing knee degeneration. treatment for meniscus tears has actually come a long way in the last 10-15 years - they used to just take the entire torn portion out, which leads to a lot worse results.

that's part of it, especially if the tear causes a flap of meniscus tissue to fold over itself and causes a lot of pain. but the main aspect of treatment is what you're going to do with the tear, and the decision is usually to either take out the entire torn tissue or to stitch it back together. it's really weird because even though the meniscus doesn't have great blood supply, it still heals about half the time when you repair it.

Did I use the word "INTENTIONAL" anywhere in my fucking post? No, I never said it was fucking intentional, NBA athletes have enough respect for each other to not try and purposefully injure their peers; unless they're a fucking nutjob like Artest.

What I said was it was a "FUCKING STUPID DIRTY PLAY" and is the exact reason why you don't barrel through someone trying to steal the ball when you know they're about to call a timeout; I can understand it was an honest hustle play in the playoffs trying to make a difference, but you just don't fucking do it. You're not going to steal the ball before the ref awards a timeout, and the player is defenseless against contact; plus it negates any foul that may happen. It's the same fucking thing of hitting a player in the air from behind or under them; you just don't fucking do it. Of course a fucking no name punk ass rookie like Beverley wouldn't know any better; nor any of these lame ass bitches on here who haven't stepped on a hardwood court in their life.

Trainers At fault

I'm sure Westbrook probably brushed it off like it was nothing so the trainers had no reason to look at it. Meniscus tears are extremely difficult to diagnose.

Man In Black
04-26-2013, 01:13 PM
You're kidding about coming back, right? Meniscus tear is about as bad a knee injury as one can get in the NBA, since meniscus is completely dead and never grows back. Think Chris Webber, Brandon Roy, Anfernee Hardaway, etc. Remember how much athleticism Duncan lost after his meniscus tear? Westbrook will never be the same player again.
This would be incorrect the severity and placement of the tear would determine if it was dead with no chance at recovery. My wife had thought she was going to get her balky knee cartilage shaved and she'd be back on her feet in a week or so but the surgeon saw that the tear was in a place where there was good blood supply, so instead of shaving it, he surgically repaired it. She went from 1 week to 6 weeks of being off her knee but that thing is now feeling good. Her surgeon did a really good job. The question for Westbrook is, which option is he going to take if he knows that if he chooses repair, he's done for the playoffs probably.

Man, this fucking sucks yall. We are going to have a hard time picking up the slack. Our role players rely on open jump-shots created by Russ's penetration. Per usage rate, Russ is second in the league which means we are going to have to rely on role players more than ever. Our series with the Rockets will likely go 6 games now when it should've gone no more than 5. A series with the Clippers or Grizzlies will be tough now. Kevin Durant will have to score 40-50 points to win games because I fully expect our role players to shrink at some point without having Russ to bail em out.

Wow, a solid take from thunderup? I agree, Westbrick's injury puts OKC in essentially the same boat as the Spurs - you're really going to need your role players, especially Kevin Martin, to step up bigtime now for another Finals run to be possible.... Durant dropping 40-50 might not even be enough if your role players are shitting the bed, tbh....

IF the Clippers get past Memphis, I like our chances against OKC better now, though losing the series still wouldn't shock me, tbh.... I still don't think Memphis has a chance against OKC though, I just don't think they have nearly enough offense....

The funny thing is I've seen Westbrook do this same move to us before. Now that it happens to him, thunder fans are appalled. Beverly and Westbrook during that point of the game were going through a battle. It was great to watch as a basketball fan. I wouldn't be surprised if Westbrook is only out 1 week.

Everyone was giving the Spurs shit because of all the injuries we had. I thought it was good to have them early and our team to be able to adapt if other ones come up. With almost all of our players injured at some point this season they have learned to play without specific pieces if they go down. LA can't function without Kobe and now OKC won't be able to function without Chimpbrook. Clippers and Spurs in the West finals tbh.
Oh and...

It's pretty common for any player to go a for a steal. Even offensive players fake the timeout and go for a lay-up.

Here's the deal. Obviously OKC isn't winning a title without RW but I think OKC will remain competitive. Jackson has the highest vertical on the roster and is no slouch at taking the ball to the rim. He's no replacement for RW but I think given the starting role and being asked to be more of a playmaker will give him the opportunity to raise a few eyebrows. Obviously hate the injury but Jackson's a good kid and we will see if he can step up

One can only hope that the meniscus tear is a lingering injury that affects the rest of Russ's career.

If he played the game the right way, I'd be on his side, and I'd feel some sympathy for him. Unfortunately, he has chosen to be an obnoxious, me-first-to-the-exclusion-of-a-3-time-scoring-champ, HGH-riddled ass. For that reason, it's impossible to support him.
