To be fair, he did a good job in Phoenix. Granted, he was a one-trick pony (7 seconds or less) and had the perfect players for his system (Prime Nash, Stoudemire, and a stable of quick, athletic shooters). They had 2-3 years of honest contention with an unorthodox style: trying to simply outscore the opponent.

D'Antoni just kept running into the Spurs. Glad he'll have another playoff series to add to his Hate List.

However, his time in New York and now Los Angeles has proven that he is incapable of adapting. He can't lead a defensive focused team, nor can he apparently lead a post-centric team. Contrast that with Pop, who has gone from a half-court, slow-it-down game to a fast-paced, European style game through his decade and a half with the Spurs, and has managed to be successful both ways. It's another reason why the Spurs were able to oust the 7SOL Suns....they could play run 'n gun with the best of them, then switch gears and play a defensive series against the plodding Pistons.

Part of it was his personnel. Parker is more suited as a running PG, given his speed and lack of three point shooting. Ginobili's court vision is at its best in the open court.
