Baynes is probably going to be a fantastic disappointment if you are that excited about him starting for the first time

Well:
- Pop's strategy of never giving him any minutes, even in garbage time, except for fouling on purpose, is going to backfire
- he'll be in foul trouble by the end of the 1st quarter

LMAO this has been a boring series, and this is the most exciting news we've gotten. Playoff minutes for Bayne are the invaluable thing. regular rotation minutes to Timmy?? HUGE.

and Cojo is great to.

Baynes is alright, but I've yet to see him play a really solid game as a spur. Maybe he does that tonight. My expectations are low.

Oh I'm right there with ya. Though with how shitty the Lakers are and how easy this series has been, it's something that for me at least adds a little bit of excitement to this cakewalk of a first round series.

Baynes is gonna look lost out there tbh Probably screw our offense out their and make it stagnant...Hope not though GSG

Ya'll gonna be shocked at what Baynes can do that Bonner/Blair can't. Believe in the user title!

I doubt he'll do well, but if it doesn't work, just don't play him again after the 1st quarter. But I do like that Pop's attempting to have another big body out there.

If he can avoid the dumb fouls, he could have a very interesting game. He runs the pick and roll a little slower than Splitter, but he isn't hesitant like Diaw. When he sets a screen the other team feels it. Plus he's incredibly tough and rebounds decently. He's not going to get pushed around by Howard in the block thats for sure.

Refs won't give him any respect and will call every ticky=tacky foul.

TrainOfThought5

im not gonna lie. im expecting a surprising game. i know he'll get into foul trouble because he wont get any ref respect, but i expect to see him go toe to toe with Howard on the block, and not give an inch on the boards or in the post.

Yep..if the ref doesn't know you in the NBA, you'll be in foul trouble before you even realize, tbh..

Who does he guard? I'd like to say Howard since Baynes is strong, Gasol is a more skilled. But I think Howard gets the calls he's been crying about when Duncan is on him. I don't know if Baynes has the defensive skill to cover Gasol out in the mid post.

I'd rather Pop start Bonner and bring Baynes off the bench to keep a seven-footer on the floor at all times. At least Baynes and Blair have some experience together.

Sort of off topic but if the league were really serious about making the games fairly called, they would condemn crap like this. Just because a nobody sets a screen doesn't make it any more illegal than when KG, Duncan, or Howard set it.

Baynes with some good minutes so far. He's shutting down DH.

if he was able to catch those Duncan passes he would be sitting at 8 points with a jumpshot and great D

Definitely no problem shoving Howard off the block.

Notice how when Bonner/Blair are out there Howard is all swinging elbows and throwing attitude/cheap shots at Parker/Cory Joseph but when Baynes is on him that attitude is in check. He didnt once try to throw a bow at that big boy

He's nothing but a punk bully. Wants no part of the Aussie who's bigger than him

Baynes had the play of the game imo frustrating howard enough to get him ejected.

He has to work on his hands for sure, but I really like what I saw from him this game. He's a good body to throw out there, not really an offensive threat but he can body up on the opposing team's biggest guy and frustrate the hell outta them. I imagine he'll be a great resource if we end up seeing Bogut.

I'm thinking Baynes ends up as a more athletic, outback-redneck Will Perdue.

His job this offseason? Fucking ball handling drills. Improve those hands, work on that mid range jumper, and stay hungry....

Very nice performance from Baynes tonight. Howard was absolutely flustered by someone who could not bully in the paint physically. As others have said, he needs to work on his hands, but I could see him being a very good role player as soon as next year.

No!....just no!
'Redneck' is an insult in Australian terminology, plus Baynes is a city boy.

Why do people say he's not an offensive threat? He's showed on several occasions the ability to finish at the rim with authority and pretty nice touch on his 14-18 foot jumper. Might not be consistent, but he's showing a solid offensive game so far.

Yeah, the fact that he has an NBA ready jumper will open up everything else in his game.

I really like Baynes at center next to Duncan. It sorta reminds me of the Rasho Nesterovic days. Say what you will about Rasho, but he was the perfect combination of passiveness and effectiveness that you want starting next to your superstar forward/center.

Obstructed_View
04-28-2013, 10:12 PM
If Baynes can be anything close to the defender Rasho was, the Spurs will be really good. If Baynes can learn to catch a pass that hits him in the hands, the sky's the limit.

I can see Baynes improving in the years to come. Great prospect but he's gotta wanna improve. His greatest strength will be his size

Sobe_Kucks
04-28-2013, 11:18 PM
Not only is his pure size as asset, he's not a tree out there. The guy runs the floor extremely well for a big his size.

How many first page posters are still choking on your plate of crow? If baynes can defend Howard like that, whos left that's bigger?? Ive been a baynes fan since day 1 and have always thought he could help in short spurts, instead of seeing our other, undersized options get abused...badly! Is this a step in the right direction? I doubt it..as everyone saw the floor tonight. I still think he can really help this team moving forward though.

the dude just shut down howard :lmao

guy is strong as hell, he couldnt have played him better, imo he defended howard better than duncan did, that's saying a lot

howard kept getting pushed way out of his sweet spot and the most impressive thing is that baynes defended without fouling

howard :lmao

Just thinking a good strategy for the Heat series may Be 3 bigs, a wing defender and PG. Splitter, Baynes and Duncan just smashing the post over and over again. Miami would be helpless

xellos88330
05-28-2013, 01:05 AM
Not a good idea IMO. Not enough floor spacing. It would completely bog down the offense and render the pick and roll useless. I understand your concept of overpowering them, but this is only a 1 sided adjustment. Lebron would surely destroy whoever is at 3. If you do want a big lineup like this the best option would probably have to be Diaw because of his shooting range and somewhat competent perimeter D.
