If the Spurs end up playing them its in the WCF...which is by no means an embarrassment to reach.

Spurs-Grizzlies couldn't happen until the WCF. And I think the Spurs would win in 6.

the frontline has dramatically changed
the SF rotation has changed with SA rolling with guys who arent 6'2 anymore
Memphis 3 point threats like Mayo Vasquez and Battier who was huge are gone
Tony seems to like playing vs Memphis now vs being scared or whatever happened to him in 2011
Ginobilis arm isnt in a cast
Duncan isnt having the worst season of his career

Tiago, maybe a little Baynes (dogpraying.jpg), Manu with two working elbows, Kawhi who's better than any of the other wing players we had back then, Timmy's playing better this year than that one, so is Tony, we have a much better defensive 2nd string pg in CoJo than we had back then. I think we match up much better against the Grizz this year than we did then, so no, it doesn't worry me too much. Just gotta hope everyone stays healthy.

What's up with you little pussies starting threads? Memphis isn't even out of the first RD and you are worried they are going to embarrass us? This isn't 2011 we are a better team, they lost some important pieces. Bring them on.

I could have sworn we are on different sides of the Western Conf. Bracket.

Must have dozed off.

So when do we play them?

Memphis will probably be coming off 2 consecutive tough 6-7 game series. So yes it would be pretty embarrassing if they beat us

They were the nightmare matchup for us with that 2011 team. This year the Spurs are the nightmare matchup for them. Can take advantage of them inside and out with this team.

Barring injury, the Spurs are very close to a lock for the Finals. First time that can be said in years.

Pretty much. The West is wide open this year. Last time was probably '07.

Embarrassed? No, there'll be nothing embarrassing losing to Memphis. Just as there wasn't anything embarrassing losing to them in 2011 IMO, this years team is basically that 2011 team + Tayshaun Prince (Gay was injured).

Conley won the matchup against Parker in 2011, and that will be the key battle. 2013 Timmy/Splitter is far, far better than 2011 Timmy/McDyess. Memphis are without Mayo and Battier which is big.

I think we win, but it will be a great series.

Both teams play great D. We have the Better O, and more weapons. Spurs in 5 or 6.

cd021

We are the better team+ Randolph struggles against Splitter. If they allow 95 they are probably screwed they just don't have the offense to compete.

05-02-2013, 08:12 PM
No, #1seed losing against #8 seed is embarrassing, but in the finals, no way.
In fact, IMO, losing the conference finals in 6-7 games is considered a good year. Having the opportunity to play against Miami in the finals would be awesome.
Embarrassing??? Getting swept by the Lakers.

Spurs will beat the ever loving crap out of Memphis. They will play angry because of the 8-1 loss. Spurs in 4 or 5.

nice analysis but you failed to mention we have Kawhi instead of Dick Jeff

again not to mention Grizz would be going for their 3rd tough series win on the road. it would be embarrassing if Spurs lose IMO

We need a healthy Tiago and sometimes need Baynes to guard Marc or Zach. Also we need a 100% Tony and the 3 pointers from Manu, Neal, Green Kawhi and the "Red Mamba"! Manu have to play a bit longer minutes. The most important is we don't have Richard Jefferson

One thing about the Spurs in this series would be the revenge factor. This season you can tell they just hate the Grizzlies.

A potential series would remind me of the Spurs mindset during that awesome Spurs/Mavs 1st round series from 2010. Spurs dropped game 1, but were locked in winning 4 out of the next 5 to clinch the series.

Would love to see SA stomp the Grizz, and this year they definitely have the pieces to do it.

lol, fuck no?

Spurs know what Memphis can do already and have spanked them in nearly every game they've played against them since that playoffs.

Tim Duncan is playing better than he has in years, not playing the worst year of his career (like that year)

Ginobili's elbow isn't broken

Parker isn't still recovering from plantar fasciitis.

Splitter isn't a bitch anymore. . .usually.

Kawhi Leonard instead of Richard Jefferson.

Spurs in 5.

If the Spurs play Memphis, I expect that they give them the Laker treatment. Their outside shooters just arent that good. Plus we got be starting Bonner and Blar wont be the first big off the bench. We have Tiago, Boris, and Baynes, each of whom are capable defenders. Would love to see Gasol move Baynes after his performance on Howard.

Hard to call it a fluke when the series could easily have been over in 5 games. However I think it could have been avoided if Pop had integrated Splitter earlier in the season.

Spurs fans have it again. Grizzlies with 2011 Zbo are an extremely good team. In 2011, there was no excuse we lost against the better team. We are better than 2011 but I believe they are better too.

before that we have a serie to play and griz have okc

Memphis is a very scary goood team. Im not counting on winning as lock, it would be extremely hard to beat this phisical, strong, fundamental team. I'd really love to meet them in WCF, of course if we beat GSW. Go spurs Go!

I don't think beating Memphis is a issue Injury's Duncan is gonna get injured somehow by the end of this series(if it happens) then the Heat will win in 4.

05-04-2013, 08:29 AM
I would not write off OKC just yet. I believe Memphis will win that series, but it will be tough. I expect OKC will go small against Memphis. If Kevin Martin doesn't start in place of Perkins he will be in quick. Memphis is going to win the rebound battle no matter what and Martin will create match up problems on the other end for Memphis. Having said that the Spurs have too much for either one of these teams. Splitter does a good job on Randolph and Timmy takes Gasol away from the basket where he is much less effective as a defender.

racm
05-04-2013, 09:52 AM
2013 Spurs, tbh.

the perimeter rotation in 2011 was scared Parker/Hill/one armed Ginobili/Neal, with HWMNBN as a token starter. Bigs were TOSB Duncan/corpse of McDyess/rookie Tiago/turd towers.

2013 has Green (longer and actually more useful than Village People Reject), Leonard (great player), Joseph (actually useful). Bigs are MVP tier Duncan, confident Splitter, Diaw, Baynes, and the turd towers look good.

EVAY
05-04-2013, 10:42 AM
So, if we get that far, we would be playing either Memphis or OKC, right?

In that case, isn't the question 'Are we going to get embarrassed by either team again?

It could have happened back in '11 if Pop had integrated him sooner. To me that series is on Pop's shortsighted thinking. I know Ginobili was injured but Pop made that series harder than it had to be.

I would take upsetting or so called beating OKC this time as well after lat year! They have Fisher lol! I feel we might meet OKC again, do not count out Durant in a series if he gets hot and gets alot of calls! Memphis could find theirselves out if that happens! FIRST THINGS FIRST THOUGH! COME ON man we have to beat GS first! They will not be a cakewalk! I think we will win but they are not a cakewalk with Curry hitting threes at that rate and Jack out there! Bogut playing tough as well! They are a good team.

Oh yeah, the Warriors are a good team that deserves to be in the 2nd round. Despite my other thread, it wouldn't be impossible for them to beat us in 6 if Curry gets into God mode with Bogut containing TD and Thompson doing a Sefolosha on TP. I still say we beat them in 4 or 5 but almost anything is possible. They just have zero chance in a Game 7.

Exactly. You people REALLY need to soak up and enjoy the playoff runs as they are happening. There very well might only be one or two left after this year, and then a drought of two or three YEARS when you will wish for a playoff game, any playoff game.

I could see Memphis beating the Spurs in 6.

If there was a silver lining to that, it's that Memphis would give Miami a much harder time in the Finals than the Spurs would.

Would love for the Spurs to get revenge though.
