A handsome, fit specimen of the Typical Amuricun Racist Confederate Gun Fellator :lol

In the midst of the most promising time for the gun violence prevention debate in decades, the National Rifle Association will name a new president (http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2013/05/01/nra-to-get-new-president/) [2] at their annual meeting May 3-5.

Alabama lawyer Jim Porter will replace (http://www.nra.org/Article.aspx?id=1517) [3] current NRA President David Keene, whose two-year term is expiring.

Here's what the media should know about Porter (http://www.meetthenra.org/nra-member/Jim%20Porter) [4], a conspiracy theorist who calls the Civil War the "War of Northern Aggression" and represents more of the same for the organization:

1. Meet The New Boss, Same As The Old Boss.

Don't expect Porter to be a breath of fresh air bringing with him a new way of doing things. As is traditional (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/may/1/miller-meet-new-nra-president-jim-porter/#ixzz2S4d69Ut1) [5], Porter will come to the presidency following two years as first vice president and two years as second vice president of the organization. He has also been (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/may/1/miller-meet-new-nra-president-jim-porter/#ixzz2S4d69Ut1) [5] the head of the NRA's legal affairs committee and a trustee of the NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund. Porter's father was the NRA'spresident (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/05/02/jim-porter-nra-president_n_3200744.html) [6] from 1959 to 1961 and chaired (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opjdxnag3TE&feature=youtu.be) [7] the 1977 annual meeting (http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2011/09/the-secret-history-of-guns/308608/3/) [8] at which hardliners took over the organization and began transforming it into the no-compromise lobbying powerhouse the group remains today.

2. Porter Believes "Un-American" Eric Holder And Hillary Clinton Tried To "Kill The Second Amendment At The United Nations."

Porter said during a June 2012 speech (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opjdxnag3TE&feature=youtu.be) [7] at the New York Rifle & Pistol Association's Annual Meeting that Attorney General Eric Holder, who he termed "rabidly un-American," was "trying to kill the Second Amendment at the United Nations" with the help of then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. He attributed this to the proposed United Nations Arms Trade Treaty, which he claimed would "make it illegal for individuals all over the world to own firearms." This is a blatant misrepresentation (http://mediamatters.org/blog/2013/03/26/fox-gives-credence-to-un-arms-trade-treaty-cons/193270) [9] of the treaty, which deals with the international arms trade, not private ownership.

3. Porter Calls The Civil War The "War Of Northern Aggression."

Explaining the NRA's roots during the same June 2012 speech, Porter said, "NRA was started 1871 right here in New York state. It was started by some Yankee generals who didn't like the way my Southern boys had the ability to shoot in what we call the 'War of Northern Aggression.' Now y'all might call it the Civil War, but we call it the 'War of Northern Aggression' down south."

4. Porter Thinks President Obama Wants European-Style Socialism.

In a February 2011 interview (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wW0wLoI4k4&feature=relmfu) [10] with NRA News, Porter said: "I think everybody had a wake-up call after the Democrats took over Congress in 2006, and I think they had a huge shock when President Obama was elected in 2008. Most folks never would believe that there would be a run on our rights, our individual rights like there's been in this country. And people are so concerned that where this government wants to take us is to a European socialistic, bureaucratic type of government. And it's been a wake-up call."

5. With Porter As President, We'll See More Of Wayne LaPierre.

In recent months, current NRA President Keene has split major media appearances with Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre. But unlike Keene, Porter doesn't have a great deal of experience (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/may/1/miller-meet-new-nra-president-jim-porter/#ixzz2S4d69Ut1) [5] as a media personality, and reportedly plans to "serve a behind-the-scenes role" and let LaPierre, known for his fiery speeches and apocalyptic conspiracies (http://thinkprogress.org/justice/2013/02/13/1592501/the-nine-most-insane-quotes-from-wayne-lapierres-apocalyptic-new-op-ed/) [11], be the "face of the organization."

NRA propaganda/lie fest in Houston

NRA’s Big Meeting Will Warn Of Terrifying Gun-Free Future

Part of this year’s annual meeting of the National Rifle Association, which officially kicked off Friday in Houston, will encourage attendees to imagine a terrifying firearm-free alternate reality where the U.S. government has thrown gun owners into prison.
The vision comes from author Rob Olive, who is among 10 celebrities and pseudo celebrities from the worlds of conservative politics and punditry being given the chance to sign books and meet fans at the gun lobby’s major shindig. Other authors include former government types like Sen. Rick Santorum (R-PA), Ambassador John Bolton and Col. Oliver North; as well as a conservative commentators like rocker Ted Nugent and talk show host Glenn Beck. Olive may be the only fiction writer getting the NRA spotlight this weekend.

He will be on hand to sign copies of his book, “Essential Liberty (http://www.amazon.com/Essential-Liberty-Rob-Olive/dp/0985902000/ref=la_B008TRYFO8_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1367518314&sr=1-1),” which is billed as a “thriller” that describes a future where federal agents confiscate guns and throw the owners in jail. According to Olive, the book is fictional, but depicts a perfectly plausible scenario based on the current direction of the country.

“I don’t think it’s a big stretch to get there and so I’ve intended the book to be sort of a warning, maybe, you know, a shot across the bow,” Olive told TPM by phone Thursday. “Something to wake up those of us who are liberty-minded and, specifically, you know, Second Amendment proponents to actually wake up and do something.”

The back cover of Olive’s book describes it as “an action-filled, thought-provoking work of fiction about governmental overreach and the abuse of power” that is “seemingly ripped from today’s headlines.” “Essential Liberty” opens with the scene of a man being taken from his home by agents with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives as his stunned wife and children watch from their dinner table. It continues with one of the protagonists burying a cache of weapons in an underground vault.

Though these scenes might seem dramatic, Olive argued many real-world politicians are eager to enact similar measures.

“Gov. Cuomo in New York has said that confiscation is an option. That’s a quote from him in an interview (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/21/nyregion/cuomo-says-he-will-outline-gun-measures-next-month.html). … One of the most powerful governors in the country saying that outwardly,” Olive explained. New York City Mayor Mike “Bloomberg would certainly love to do it. There are many members of Congress who’ve said they’d do it if they had the votes. So, it’s not a question of what they want to do, it’s a question of when they’re able to do it.”
