10:30am on the west coast which means no kids to deal with... cool, what isn't cool is the price of our goodies. Two nachos, two drinks, max popcorn, what 60 bucks? That should be illegal, it's like water out in the middle of the Sahara, hell you could charge a 100 bucks a drink and people would have to pay it.

Anyway...

Of all the Superhero flicks, the Ironman ones are the best, and I expect this one to be the best of the three.

Am curious about The Rock as Hercules later this year, a half black Greek, hmmm? Still waiting for Elric, which if done right would be...the...sword & sorcery/fantasy flick of all time. Amazing saga.

Like pro rasslin' ya toss out reality and simply go with it. This was no different, ya don't go to watch these MARVEL flicks looking for plot developement you are there to be overwelmed with sight and sound. Yep, the flick delivered big time. The special effects...very special. What seperates Iron Man from all the other Superhero flicks is pretty obvious...Robert Downey Jr. He simply has.."it".

It did start off a bit slow but once it kicked in you didn't feel so bad spending $6.50 for a $1.00 drink. Yep, worth the $$$$$$$$...all of it.

fact is you should never expect too much connotation from movies of this genre imho. fictional films are made to entertain people rather than educate them, and the ironman series is probably the best of this category in years. price is probably a bit too high so im just gonna download it from the internet and watch it for free tbh

I couldn't care less abut 3D.

Its just a gimmick to charge you twice as much.

I've gone to a few IMAX Theater to see a movie in 3D. Its cool for the first few times but the novalty wears off.

I think most people go to these movies looking to be overwelmed with special effects and audio dramatics. I seriously doubt too many go looking for anything deep.

There will be a villian he will need to be vanizhed, enter...THE SUPERHERO!!!!!!!!!!!!....that's about it.

Saw it yesterday. Thought it was pretty cool. It was pretty much what you'd expect. I guess I don't take comic book movies as seriously as some other people, so I didn't go in expecting a life-altering experience. It was entertaining, which is what I was looking for.

And of course TDK trilogy is better than these films. They're different types of movies. That's like comparing The Gladiator to Transformers.

Gladiator to Transformers is stretching it. Sure, TDK and Watchmen and Sin City all have a different feel, but Avengers was lighthearted and still went over well. I'm not expecting it to be on the level of Paul T. Anderson or anything, but Iron Man 3 wasn't good. The ending was laughable... maybe the movie was intended to be a comedy, but if that's the case then the preview was misleading. There was no innovation... same shit, RD is witty and he has gadgets... Maybe I need to get a clue on what people want to see.

Maybe I missed the part where the robots showed up to kill Maximus... or were Transformers 2 and 3 about Optimus being betrayed and reduced to slavery?

I really wasn't taking a shot at anyone. I read through the thread pretty quickly and noticed some talk about TDK vs some of the Marvel films. To me they're completely different kinds of films. You watch them for different reasons and expect different things.

As far as Iron Man 3, it seemed like a pretty standard iteration. I don't think it was as good as the last two, but what do people really expect? You can keep doing the same trick different ways, but it's still the same trick. You can't get upset when you aren't as entertained by the trick as much as you were the first couple times you saw it. It is what it is.

"No innovation...same shit." That's what happens when you make a third film based on a story that doesn't have a whole lot of depth. It's Ironman.

Yeah, they were trying to make him a little more human, a little more vulnerable. We've already seen that he's invincible in his suit. So now we got to see him operate without the suit. It's a slightly different take, but ultimately when he needed the suit he got it. There are only so many ways to tell the same story about a guy who needs the suit.

Movie was good. Spent 0 dollars on the experience so it was extra enjoyable.

Hey Avante. I know you're probably going to take this as me just starting more shit with you, but you want to know a really great way to avoid breaking the bank at the movie theater concession stand? Stop shopping there. People who complain about buying overpriced shit at the movies are the worst. You know you can buy the same candy at the supermarket for like, 1/10th the price right? You know the movie theater isn't the god damned airport so you can sneak in a can of Pepsi (or two, or three, or four, depending on the variables like how many pockets your coat has and how fat you are/want to be).

There is no honor in patronizing the movie theater concession stand instead of smuggling. Don't want to get ripped off? Don't shop there. Very simple lesson. I'm totally on board with the seeing movies in theaters experience. There are many movies I regret not getting to see on the big screen. However, an 800 calorie soda, poorly prepared nachos and candy at a 1000% price point are not part of the deal and are right up there with capitalism myths such as needing to wash your hair twice.

8 out of 10. Really liked the "falling" scene.

I can have candy anytime it's the big buttered popcorn/nachos that I seek, also an Icee, can have coke at home. It's not the real big deal I make it out to be it's just weird paying those kinds of prices for things far far far away from being worth it. Sorta unique actually.

Good popcorn flick, but not great. It was better than the 2nd, imo but not by much.

And unless you absolutely have the time to kill, no need to stay past credits. It wasn't any kind of teaser, just lame humor. Lol everybody in the theater groaned at the weak sauce.

That seems to be the general consensus that I've seen: It's better than 2, but not as good as the first.

Just saw Ironman again, yep the first one. How anyone can think it was superior to III...????

Sure everything being new to us has some pull.

They didn't make him more vulnerable. They made Stark seem invincible and made the suits seem like they were made out of paper mâché.

Not a reader of comics but I'm assuming they took massive liberties with the Mandarin.

Not an Iron Man reader, either, but of course they took liberties with the Mandarin. Iron Man fans hate the changes.

no surprise that you prefer big shiny things that blow up over a decent story line.

Not surprised you don't have any idea why people go to these Superhero movies.

It's like reading a western then a sci fi novel. Sorta like casual sex vs getting married.

People in this thread are telling you why they go to super hero movies and what they expect. You just aren't paying attention.

Not everyone has the mentality of a 12 year old kid like you.

And what % of those who go to Superhero movies was that? A tiny fraction of 1%?

I saw it today in 3D and I liked it. It was better than Ironman 2 but not as good as the first Ironman. I thought the twist and turns in the movie were interesting. Special effects were awesome. I loved the barrel of monkeys scene in the sky. It's a good movie to start the summer movie season off. If you are expecting The King's Speech, Forrest Gump, or the English Patient, you should just stay home. If not, then go see it and be entertained by a comic book movie for 2 hours.

Over 1 billion already made? Breaking records.

paste...

Marvel’s Iron Man 3 doesn’t open here in the states until midnight tonight, but it’s already breaking records and beating last year’s massively successful Avengers’ international box-office take in its first week of release.

I have yet to see the movie, but this seems like the right thread to post this in. So apparently a movie theater manager thought it would be a GREAT idea to have a bunch of (fake) armed gunmen running around a crowded theater to really drive home that action movie feeling. Fucking genius.
