no worse that US's pink slime, chicken slime, horse meat, and widespread E coli contamination in turkey, etc.

not sure if it's good news or bad news for cats tbh. it means cats will have more rats to feed on, while on the other hand, more people will join the majority of their population in cat-meat eatting

As we laugh at China's corrupt businessmen, here's how we do it the Good Ol BigChem USA

Over 5,000 Children's Products Contain Toxic Chemicals Linked to Cancer and Hormone DisruptionMakers of kids’ products reported using 41 of the 66 chemicals identified by WA Ecology as a concern for children’s health. Major manufacturers who reported using the chemicals in their products include Walmart, Gap, Gymboree, Hallmark, H & M and others. They use these chemicals in an array of kids’ products, including clothing, footwear, toys, games, jewelry, accessories, baby products, furniture, bedding, arts and crafts supplies and personal care products. Besides exposing kids in the products themselves, some of these chemicals, for example toxic flame retardants, build up in the environment and in the food we eat.

Examples of product categories reported to contain toxic chemicals include:

Hallmark party hats containing cancer-causing arsenic

Graco car seats containing the toxic flame retardant TBBPA (tetrabromobisphenol A)

Claire’s cosmetics containing cancer-causing formaldehyde

Walmart dolls containing hormone-disrupting bisphenol A

The chemical reports are required under Washington State’s Children’s Safe Products Act of 2008. A searchable database of chemical use reports filed with the Washington State Department of Ecology is available at http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/swfa/cspa/search.html.

Flame Retardants Linked to Lower IQs, Hyperactivity in Children

Almost a decade after manufacturers stopped using certain chemical flame retardants in furniture foam and carpet padding, many of the compounds (http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=do-furniture-flame-retardants-save-enough-lives-justify-environmental-damage) still lurk in homes. New work to be presented today reaffirms that the chemicals may also still be hurting young children who were exposed before they were born.

Researchers investigating the health impacts of prenatal exposure to flame retardants collected blood samples from 309 pregnant women early in their second trimester. Spikes in the levels of one class of flame retardant, polybrominated diphenyl ethers (http://web3.scientificamerican.com/podcast/episode.cfm?id=6B47EB84-E7F2-99DF-372C4C480BAB6068)(PBDEs) correlated with behavior and cognition difficulties during early childhood.

What's the big deal? When I was in China there was field mouse soup on every menu, how can rat be much different? A vegetarian monk at a monastery told us never to ask what we were being served outside of there because "Chinese eat anything with 4 legs except kitchen table".
