Maybe he plays hard//////////

He's consistent and physical, plays good defense, rebounds well and has a few post moves. While that all sounds mediocre, today's NBA is dry of well rounded big men.
So Gasol stands out, in that sense.

What others have said. And advanced stats are new and hip and everyone wants to understand like they understand them so therefore love Gasol.

He is chubby and has class...Texas loves him...
Dwight Howard shat his way out of a guaranteed First Team spot, tbh...
Otherwise the center crop sucks. Name me a center below 30 you'd take over a 37 year old Tim Duncan.
The only great thing about Marc Gasol: he played 80 games and showed up to play every one of those games. Other than that, Timmy has Fat in just about every category.

Snowball effect. One person starts it, and others just follow suit. NBA journalists are particularly bad about this.

Bad News Bears syndrome. Like a Hollywood script, the audience has a sympathetic desire to root for the fat kid and the other rejects. And even when they actually become good, you still kind of root for them.
For the next series, OKC should send the Memphis lockerroom a bunch of cake before every game. Fat kids love cake. Could end up being Marc's and Zach's kryptonite.

They're really bitter about Gasol potentially getting first team NBA over Duncan in the Spurs forum, especially after he beat him out for DPOY. The fact that former Spurs Steve Kerr and Bruce Bowen recently admitted they voted for Marc over Tim for first team had them raging..

I thought MJ was Zach's kryptonite...

I'm actually looking forward to the Gasol vs Abaka matchup... apparently Abaka has been complaining of being snubbed of the DPOY award for consecutive seasons...

Hes not Tim Duncan so he sucks.
Because he plays hard, is damn smart and knows when to take a shot and when to pass. I have tremendous respect for Gasol's brothers. They're both superb bigman in terms of quality. I don't think US has seen ever skilled big men with good size, understandment of game and coachable. Which I think that's product of FIBA, unstanding the game and not thinking they're stars but players.
Spain is very lucky to have both in their national team, which make them pretty scary.

Spanish big men are better than the USA big men
Ibaka plays for Spain also.

This. Spurfan never passes up an opportunity to deepthroat one of their own, regardless of the thread topic. That racm faggot is notorious for this, crowbarring in Duncan and Ginobili comparisons every chance he gets
Gasol winning DPOY is just fine with me--much like how they reward workhorse pitchers in baseball for innings pitched when voting on the Cy Young. Comparable stats, but one guy had 50 more innings of work...

To be honest i like Gasol, i think he's a great player and deserves credit. He's smart, he understands the game and makes it look easy. He's tough and has heart. I acknowledge this. I'm just surprised that the media ALL OF A SUDDEN jumps on his dick. He's been playing like this for years. Another thing, he doesn't fit the usual profile. Small market team, no controversies, no flash, no show. I'm all for it but the media is usually NOT, therefore my question. Nothing against him personally at all. And yes TD is the better big.

I don't think the question is Spurfan's like or dislike of Gasol.
The stupifying thing is that a big averaging 14 (shooting under 50%) and 8 is most likely gonna be first-team All-NBA.
