THIS JUST IN: Nets won't retain P.J. Carlesimo, after Brooklyn's Game 7 loss to Bulls. Team was 35-19 w/ Carlesimo as head coach.

Adrian Wojnarowski ‏@WojYahooNBA (https://twitter.com/WojYahooNBA)28m (https://twitter.com/WojYahooNBA/status/331089050868002817)
Nets search for a new coach has started. P.J. Carlesimo won't be brought back. Jeff Van Gundy is a top target, sources say.

Unexpected first round exits will do that to you. I put more of the blame on the players though tbh. Brooklyn should've won that series in 5 games, 6 tops. The players didn't make the plays. Can't blame Carlesimo for missing a ton of wide open shots like the Nets did.

PJ is nothing special, but there's nothing he could have done to improve Billy King's GM skills..he couldn't have implemented a competitive gene into Deron Williams's brain, and he couldn't force Joe Johnson's shots to go in..

It makes sense, though..they don't have any flexibility to improve the roster, the coach was the only possible casualty..

Phil Jackson always the guy Prokhorov wanted. So Nets likely to chase Phil & J. Van Gundy first since coaching splash easier than roster fix

Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine (https://twitter.com/ESPNSteinLine)1m (https://twitter.com/ESPNSteinLine/status/331096967356764160)
But with Billy King freshly extended as Nets GM, don't think you can rule out his pal Larry Brown from consideration if Nets set on big name

Like HH said he was doomed as soon as he took over. They're the new Hawks, and the best they can ever hope for is the ECSF.

A lot of people have been arguing that:

- He only ran Iso
- He left Wallace and Evans in the lineup together
- He didn't develop a bench

Well, Joe Johnson is an isolation player, that's his game, tbh..like DD said, this is similar to his Hawks teams..Brook Lopez is a 1 on 1 player that can't pass..the rest of the team outside of fatass Williams can't create consistently..

They ran pick&roll last night, the Bulls hedged and Williams passed up every shot, not sure what else PJ should have ran..Deron Williams is a quitter and loser, tbh..

As for Wallace and Evans, Brooklyn's bench is limited..Blatche is the only good bench player they have, tbh, and he hurts their defense..where are the alternatives?..CJ Watson, Keith Bogans, Jerry Stackhouse?:lol..who are these players he was supposed to develop?..

JJ has 3 more years left on his contract. He turns 32 before the start of next season and he's set to make close to $25M as a 34 year old. Unbelievable

Joe Johnson will be getting paid 21 million next year and it will escalate to 25 million in 2015:lmao..

Williams will be getting paid 18 million next year and it will escalate to 21 million in 2015:lol..

Gerald "Monkeyball with no monkeyness left" Wallace is getting 10 a year for the next 3:lol..

Insult to the Hawks man. Atlanta took the 08 Celtics to 7. Could you ever see this shit team taking Miami to even 6?

Carlesimo is a flat-out retarded coach, he thought Durant was a shooting guard back when he coached the Sonics/Thunder :lol

That being said, that roster isn't going anywhere, and they're capped out with no room for improvement.... any coach they bring in won't get very far and probably won't be any good thanks to DWill's coach-killing ways.... how the fuck did Billy King keep his job?

Carlesimo was instrumental in building the Thunder as his coaching is what got them the #4 pick in 2008 and largely what got them the #3 pick in 2009 :lol

the best and greatest thing about Wallace is not the 4 year, $40 million contract; it's the pick they gave to Portland turned out to be the Lollard pick

They should trade Williams and Lopez, not because they're the worst players, but because they may be able to get a salary relief for it. That team is just built terribly. They're like a caricature of the Lakers.

6 years for $123,658,089

lol Joe Johnson

Carlesimo did a good a job as he could through the season, but they were down 3-1 to the MASH unit Bulls. Someone has to take the fall.

At least the Lakers try to put out a good product. Eastern big market teams just take fans' money and give them shitty results.

Why would Phil Jackson take the keys to such a shitty franchise full of bloated cancerous contracts? Phil Jackson thrives on having superstars with coat tails large enough to ride on to the Finals. He'd be a good Miami coach.

How is he retarded? Half the players don't even look like they want to be on the court. Joe Johnson had 6 points from 2-12 shooting. He gets paid $2:lol million to give that kind of shitty performance? Barkley is right, if they win they praise the players, if they lose they fire the coach. How many times has firing the coach and getting someone else ever made a difference?

:lolantoni

It boils down to being stuck with $40million in overrated players for salary. At what point will Williams take responsibility and not try to play the coach card.

Carlesimo is a flat-out retarded coach, he thought Durant was a shooting guard back when he coached the Sonics/Thunder :lol

Not to mention he also kept all two of the plays that the guy who got fired before him ran and had zero idea what floor spacing is.... I don't think the Nets will be going anywhere with this roster, but at least with a non-simpleton for a coach, they could be a perennial second-round exit instead of a perennial first-round exit, tbh...
