Who knows.

But I know for a fact they would at least not lose every game by an average of 20 points, like::::

Still crying about that.

Own up, son.

(Worth noting is that our D-leaguer Cory Joseph and an Aussie in his first playoff game ever outplayed Nash and Howard when they were on the floor at the same time against each other).

And another thing Bynumite isn't realizing is that those D-leaguers played much, much better than Nash and Blake Mamba.

Bynumite, your D-leaguers stepped up. It was your boy Daaaawhite and Earl Clark, whose dick you all were sucking earlier in the year, who let you down. Metta was also terrible. As was Gasol in the 3 out of the 4 games.

Not this. The Rockettes paid out 1/2 of the Fakes salary this year yet won 2 playoff games against a 1 seed. Fakes couldn't even keep a playoff game in single digits while the brooms were out. And you find joy/humor in this fact? Do you realize that every dollar paid in lux taxes goes to other teams? So basically the Fakes are paying the rest of the league to suck? And you find this funny?

Able to do so much with so little while big market teams blow thier loads to and still fail misserably. Yep, I'll take this dirt poor team over any other.

Furthermore, upsets happen all the time in the NBA. Hell, the Grizzlies even TANKED to play the Spurs because they knew they had favorable matchups. No one was really surprised when they beat the Spurs. Then they went on to take OKC to 7 games. Those Grizzlies were a very, very good team. The only way it would be a failure on the level you think it is if the Grizzlies were this years Bulls to the Spurs Heat. But I understand you'll keep playing up the seeding bullshit because you don't want to admit to yourself the Lakers failed much, much worse than any Spurs team in history.

That said, never before has the most hyped, most expensive team in NBA history failed to win one measly playoff game, much less lose every game by an average of 20 points.

Play the injury card all you want, but the reason the Lakers were injured was a direct correlate of the Lakers failing from the FO to the players on the court.

The Lakers set a new precedent for failure, and you're just going to have to deal with it. Not one basketball fan/analyst on earth who isn't a Lakers fan would consider the '11 Spurs a bigger failure than the '13 Lakers.

So the '95 Rockets weren't a very, very good team?

The reason for their record that year was because they played like shit half the year and found their groove during the second half of the season, finishing with the 3rd best record in the West over that time. They also tanked the last two games of the season. They were a 50+ win level team who happened to get the 8th seed. Simple as that. It's happened before and it'll probably happen again. It was an upset, but not on the level of something like the Warriors/Mavericks (that wasn't even much of an upset considering how well the Warriors matched up). Keep trying to convince yourself it was this once-in-a-lifetime event, though.

What is a once-in-a-lifetime event, however, is a 9 figure NBA roster not winning a single playoff game.

Maybe you're not the biggest failure in sports history, but you are, without a doubt, the biggest failure in NBA history. Bar fuckin' none.

if not for that lopsided trade for Gasol, Lakers would have fell off into obscurity for quite some time. shit, how many of you guys joined after you acquired MVPau for peanuts? pretty much all of you guys.

your best bet is to get another lopsided trade, and knowing the league's love affair for the Lakers, i imagine that will happen. but it has nothing to do with great ownership or management (shit if anything, that aspect is going to get much worse for you guys). it's more about the league protecting it's flagship franchise.

Eh, maybe not all sports. Dont forget Texas Rangers. They had multiple failures :lol

The Rangers at least got to the World Series, though.....

The Lakers spent $120mil in a sport where that kind of money isn't commonly thrown around, they guaranteed 73 wins and a ring, and then needed Stern to force them into the 7th seed where they were swept and demolished.... there has never been a bigger failure than thatPERIOD

Teams spend money porportionate to their income. Lakers bring in 500M a year and that doesn't include the 5B tv deal. It only make sense that we have the highest payroll. You're lucky that the salary cap is so low, it helps pay Tim Duncan's pathetic salary when we pay taxes. With that extra income, Duncan and Manu don't have to cross over the border to Mexico to take "odd" jobs

2. Los Angeles Lakers
5-year Average Profit: $38 million

Los Angeles' profit margin has been shrinking over the past few seasons thanks to increased player costs, but the team was still one of the five most profitable in the league last year.

500 million a year :lmao

Worth mentioning is that this article was written before the 2012 off-season spending spree. The Lakers probably managed a small profit this year or broke even. If they go into the 200 million dollar territory next season, they'll be operating at a loss. And you can bet Jimmy is highly concerned about that.

Income is not the same as profit idiot.

They seat 15,000 people at staples. Average ticket for a laker home game is $200. That's 3M not including concessions and parking. 3M * 41 games= 123M

Then you have all of the laker sponsors like Jack in the box, Taco Bell, etc... Then you have revenue sharing from jersey sales and TNT, ABC, ESPN contracts and NBA.com and the income from League Pass at the end of the year that they recieve to offset their tax penalty. It could be close to 700M to be honest. All that doesn't include the 5B tv deal and the concessions and parking AND the events they make money from because they OWN staples.

King Nupe
05-09-2013, 02:58 PM
You all have this illusion of poor franchises. They're all billionaires except the busses. Spurs could go over the cap, but they aren't committed to excellence. They just got lucky with getting Duncan. They keep giving him contracts because they know they won't be getting anymore stars. The busses always try to put the best product on the floor. The more they spend on great players the more they can charge because they know fans will pay almost ANYTHING to see the lakeshow.

You didn't specify "gross" or "net," Trayvon. You said "bring in," which typically means "profit" in the informal sense.

Before the TV deal (which is worth 3 billion over 20 years), the Lakers' yearly gross was 214 million (http://www.forbes.com/lists/2010/32/basketball-valuations-11_Los-Angeles-Lakers_320250.html). Add the 150 million from the TV deal on top of that, and the Lakers still fall way short of "500 million per year not counting the TV deal."

Not surprised you weren't aware of the Lakers financial situation. Black people and finances mix together about as well as oil and water, or Dwight Howard and a post move. Stick to dancing, rapping, and running from the police.
