View Full Version : How do we counter the Warriors' speed advantage?

They're constantly beating us off the dribble on offense, leading to late help defense and them quickly exploting that by finding open shooters. Their speed has been affecting us at the other end as well with our shooters playing one on one and rushing shots because of the game's tempo. But how do we address this problem? In terms of offense, of course, we need better ball movement but does that mean less minutes for certain players <cough> <cough> Neal <cough> <cough> and starting your best passing lineup to establish the passing game off the bat? Does that mean starting Diaw AND Manu? Starting Manu might also get his game going better, too. But then we look at the defensive side and the speed issue is more problematic. Thoughts?

We run them off the 3 pt line into the D, then pound their ass when they come in the lane sooner or later they tire of getting knocked down settle for more and more jumpers and their shooting cools off. On offense again we pound them inside use the clear advantage we have make bogut play 1 vs. 2 down their allnight.

Thing is, I'm not sure that soft shit Splitter keeps tossing out will be effective in this series. His defense down low is needed but he got easily beat to the glass in Game 2.

Stay at home on shooters, don't help off penetration, start 2 actual bigs to defend the paint. Force them to beat us with pull up 2's, contested 3's, or drives against Tim and Tiago. Don't switch off picks unless it's Diaw or we're going small. Honestly just contest their threes and they'll cool down. We keep trying to bottle them up and run them off the three point line but they're absolutely murdering us on penetration because a.) we don't have 2 bigs in the lane and b.) once they penetrate we crash inside and they kick it out to thompson/barnes/jack/green. Just straight up play them 5 on 5 man to man, if Curry & Thompson can outscore us with pull up contested threes then so be it. Right now we're just giving them wide open looks, and unlike our players Thompson isn't going to miss those.

This is exactly what we use to do with DRob and Duncan on the floor. The perimeter would crowd the shooters and force them into the shot blockers.

We might consider shooting our threes at a better than 20% success rate.

Just a thought.

I'll take Splitter's soft served layups and defense over some of the non-defending players like Neal. You can wear a team down by a big that plays inside. Yet I haven't seen a team get worn down by a non-defense playing chucker.

Green said it earlier this year that when they play TD/Splitter it makes it easier to crowd the shooters. I guess Pop missed it.
