What happened in the playoffs?
No one gave a shit about David Robinson's 71 point game or quad double when he got toasted in the playoffs.
Here's where you say Kobe had no help.
Closeout game 5 against the Suns:
Kobe: 34 points on 13-33 shooting with 6 TOs.
Odom: 33 points on 12-21 shooting, 10 boards.
Kobe also had only one assist. He wasn't getting other players involved.
So one game means he wasn't the best player? SMH

Because of the other teams positions. The Bulls made the Playoffs with a 30-52 record the year before. Yeah 30-52.

It wasn't even that one game. Just because Kobe averaged a whole bunch of points and had 50 point games doesn't mean he was the best player in the league. He was the league's best scorer, but 4 players had a higher PER than him during the regular season, including Dirk who was the league MVP. What argument is there that Kobe was the best player? He scored a bunch of points on a bad team? T-Mac's been there and done that. Player and analyst opinions? Nothing Kobe did those two years was transcendent outside of his 81 point game or the 62 vs. Dallas.

All BS aside, when all is said and done Kobe will go down as a top 10 player by just about everyone outside of hater fans.
This doesn't mean that Tim Duncan will not go down as a top 10-12 player of all time, this simply is about Kobe Bryant. I think both guys are a dying breed of old school tough players and you have to give them their due. Personally speaking, after seeing this new breed of whiney faggots like Westchimp and Lebron it makes me greatly appreciate guys like Tim Duncan and Kobe so much more for always being in love with their craft.
Enjoy them fellas, once they are gone, the new breed of players are gonna be such divas that you will be wishing Kobe was still around to hate compared to this faggot tbh

Shot selection. Ball handling (why Kobe is prone to high turnover games). Man defense (Kobe hasn't played great on the ball defense for an entire game since '02. I have no clue how he constantly made the All NBA Defensive teams after that year. His ball denial defense was still elite at that point and he did pester the opposing team's best player in crunch time, so I guess that's the reason). Gambles for steals too much. Streaky from 3.

Wrong again. I have Kobe top 10 all-time. How can you not choose the player who put up better stats against tougher competition in the playoffs? Wade had better all around stats (averaged more assists, rebounds, and steals) in the '06 regular season than Kobe and outperformed Kobe in the playoffs enroute to the title. What argument can be made that Kobe was better than Wade in '06? He scored 81 points? He outscored the Dallas Mavericks in 3 quarters? Smush was on his team?
I admit, '07 is up in the air. Dirk was the MVP, had a higher PER, but Kobe had to carry more weight for his team. Lebron was fantastic in the playoffs until the Finals. Duncan was quietly dominant in the playoffs with a 27 PER (yeah, yeah, I know you hate PER). But since Kobe was on a bad team and lost in the 1st round, we'll never know his true ceiling (or floor) for that year. I'll concede Kobe was the best regular season player, but we have no idea if he would've excelled or floundered in the later rounds.
Something all these players that you keep referencing will tell you is your defining moments come in the post-season. It might be unfair, but it's the way it's always worked. And I can't tell you how many times I've seen players have all-time great regular seasons only to shit themselves in the playoffs. To just hand Kobe "best player in the league" title without a deep playoff run is unfair to those players who author a deep run.

Why does Kobe have to prove himself though? He was a 3x Champ and showed up for the Playoffs. And when he was able to go on a deep playoff run he was even better in the postseason than the playoffs in 08. As if he needed to prove it come playoff time, right.

Because every other player has to, regardless of what they did previously (or after). Magic was a 2x champ before he choked against the Celtics in '84.
And Duncan was fantastic in '07. This is once again a case of you looking too much at per game stats. Not one team besides the Suns (who the Spurs matched pace with) scored over 100 points. And the primary reason was Duncan. Lebron had one of the worst Finals outings in history primarily because of Duncan. Sure, Bowen was effective, as well, but by '07, Bowen was a year from retirement and would have never been able to stay in front of James without Duncan behind him locking down the paint and preventing the personal dunk contest Lebron had when he played the Pistons. And even if we judge his performance by per game stats, how is 22ppg, 11.5, 3.8apg, 3.1bpg on .521 shooting "not that good?"
Even if Duncan wasn't the best player in the league, he was still top 5.

“You want to have a season that is comparable to what it is like to play a season of basketball,” Jackson said. ” The year they patched together [1998-99 season] when they played 50 games they lost more than a third of the season and then they rushed to play those games into a magnified schedule and it questioned the teams that were really going to have a chance to win it like Indiana and Utah.
“New York finished 8th that year and obviously an up-and-coming San Antonio team, which turned out to be quite a great team, but those were the teams that ended up in the finals. When teams would play 18-19 games in the last month of the season it broke down some of the older steady teams because of that impact of a heavy schedule.
“I always kind of term that as an asterisk season out of this fun at poking fun at San Antonio. In reality it changes the complexity of how you play the game and what you make your team up with. You have to have young players and you have to have healthy players to win. So they want to have a representative season and we have some terrific teams in the NBA right now and there are some teams that are very, very good. It should be interesting to see how a lot of them come out and a lot of teams don’t want to lose that opportunity.”
50 game season son (http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursnation/2011/11/04/phil-jackson-still-hammering-spurs-about-1999-asterisk-season/). That's it and that's all. :downspin: ^ this shit, ya dig? :lol

More from Coach Pop's daddy:
No Respect For '99 Title From Phil Jackson.
Just when you thought you'd heard the last of "the asterisk..."
In Phil Jackson's mind, it's still there and it's never going away.
San Antonio's 1999 NBA championship, won during the lockout-shortened season, was one of the rallying points for the Lakers during the 2000 playoffs.
But at the Lakers' practice, Jackson said he doesn't figure on that '99 trophy being any part of a dynasty if the Spurs make a run in the coming years.
"I know it's added onto their list, but anybody who was around basketball in '99 knows it was entirely an aberration," Jackson said. "Not that they don't deserve it. They won the pack and they came out of that heap, but that's an asterisk. That's kind of a weird situation that sits over there."
LOL (http://www.spursreport.com/forums/spurs-nba-fan-feedback/7166-phil-jackson-says-99-asterisk-stays.html)

Bruce Bowen was asked on the hot list where does Kobe rank among the all-time greats. He said Kobe was top 5 and then said Jordan was #1 and Kobe was #2. Pretty high praise considering Kobe still has several high quality years left.

that's enough for now mid...I will be back with a vengeance...Get prepared bro
If you're going by regular season MVPs then you have to say that Nash was a better player than Kobe in 06 and Dirk was better than Kobe in 07.
Finals MVPs need context. Kobe played with Shaq. Check Shaq's Finals MVP numbers. God would struggle to win a FMVP in 00-02. Duncan aka lost FMVP to Parker wouldn't have a chance either.
I'm not going by anything. You're the one who pulled out the MVP card.
Shaq was an MVP before Kobe set foot in the NBA. Pau was the franchise player for a team that made the playoffs. (not only franchise player, pretty much only decent player on the team). No Pau, no playoffs. Add Pau, add 3 consecutive Finals appearances and 2 rings. Pau gets upset, add sweep, lol, sweep.

"Any" NBA fans can talk shit, I guess. But the one fanbase that probably shouldn't be talking shit is Lakerfan, considering their team got swept by the fans of the team they're trying to talk shit to.

Not really. Duncan's FIBA stats are superior to Kirby's, who couldn't even manage 50% shooting against Third World countries and got toasted by Rudy Fernandez in the Gold Medal game. Also, Gold Medals are team accomplishments, demonstrated by the fact Kirby was carried by Lebron and Wade.

It has got to the point that Lakerfags have to question Duncan's FIBA stats to make them sleep better at night while knowing their own team's failures.

I'm raising the Bullshit Flag. It stings you that I keep bringing it up. :lolwn it son.
Kobe's career shooting percentage: 45.4% (http://www.nba.com/playerfile/kobe_bryant/).Question of the day: Is he a 1st ballot HOFer? If your answer is yes, WGAF about his shooting percentages, if the HOF voters won't? Simply put, you're wasting your time trolling about his shooting percentages. It gets a few laughs on ST, but it's essentially futile for you to continue putting it into your argument.

Agreed on team accomplishments. In 2004, they won Bronze as a team. They say a picture is word a 1,000 words:

Most NBA players see an increase in their shooting percentage when they play international ball. James and Wade shot near 60% and 70% respectively. Kevin Durant shot 57% in the 2012 games. The fact Kirby can't break 50% shooting in international play is pathetic.
And yeah, Wade and James were on the '04 team, but they hardly played. Larry Brown instead choosing to go with A.I., Starbury, and even Richard Jefferson.
Also worth mentioning is that Kirby's "Doberman Defense" constantly gets shredded in the gold medal game. Once again he was outplayed by his Spanish counterpart. This time it was J.C. Navarro, who went off for 21 on him.
Kobe's a below average FIBA player. Deal with it.
