View Full Version : Rest and time off will not be on the Spurs' side against Memphis.

Right now it looks very probable that the Grizzlies will wrap up their series in 5 games and the Spurs will finish theirs in 6.

Then the Spurs have the longer journey of returning home to the AT&T Center while the Grizzlies haven't had that much distance to cover anyway between Memphis and Oklahoma City. And who knows, the Spurs' series could even go 7 games.

A well-rested Grizzlies team against a tired out Spurs team will be a real challenge.

To anyone who might say, "Can we please just concentrate on the Warriors series before we start talking about the Grizzlies?" I say this: We're fans. Not players or coaches. It doesn't matter if we look ahead.

It does if you don't end up winning the series. Just saying...

We're not in panic mode about the current series any more, so it must be time to start complaining about the next series and maybe even start scouting Miami. :lol

Let's just collectively pray that OKC channels their inner 2012 WCF and comeback tonight.

would be awesome if the thunder came back and won it in 7.

really don't fancy facing the Grizz.

a depleted Thunder team and the added bonus of revenge for last years playoffs seems ideal

E-N says today that if the Spurs win Game 6 and Memphis has finished in 6 or less, the West Finals will start in San Antonio on Sunday afternoon.

Stated differently, the only way the Spurs don't play a home game this coming Sunday is if they win their Game 6 and OKC somehow stretches Memphis to 7 games.

Yeah I saw on the news that there will be a game played in San Antonio. Either Game 7 against Golden State or Game 1 of the WCF's against Memphis. Game time will either be 2:30 or 7:00 p.m central time...

I hope the spurs wrap things up(obviously) Thu nt and then they play Sunday....that's 3 days off. How much rest do these guys need??! I say they better have Mr baynes in uniform to, if anything throw his weight around a few mins a game..

This thread has absolutely nothing to do with Baynes, tbh.

Win tomorrow and get 2 days off to play Memphis. We'll be fine. No excuses this year, we're as healthy as you can expect and Tony is rounding back into form.

Rest doesn't really help that much in sports, so many times we have seen teams come off of a long break only to lose their momentum and become gassed easier. These are pro athletes, age or not, they can take a game every 2 days or so.

Not that you always want back-to-backs, but I would be worried about too much resting time if I were a Grizzlies fan.

Having aron in uniform and helping with frontcourt depth(real depth), has everything to do with this thread tbh...but back to Kevin Durant..

Tony Allen was very effective against him despite the height difference, he completely disrupted Durant's offense.

I'd say we shouldn't overlook the Dubs yet and I'm sure they will be shooting out of their minds to start the game tomorrow but living here in the Bay Area, I'm already hearing the local announcers and sports media guys pretty sure the series will go to Game 7 so fuck them for being arrogant. We have to end this shit tomorrow and get our revenge on the Grizzlies for '11.

Too much rest and OKC coming off a seven game series last year didn't exactly favor the Spurs. As long as its not a back to back it's all good.

The weirdest is that Spurs might be a little better rest-wise if they win in 7 instead of 6.

If Spurs win game 6 on Thursday at 10:30pm ET, they will have to travel back from SF and play game 1 Sunday at 3:30pm ET.

If Spurs win game 7 on Sunday at 3:30pm ET, they won't have to travel before playing game 1 Tuesday at 8:00pm ET or 8:30pm ET.

And top of that, while Spurs would have to play one more game if their series goes to 7, they should be a little less tired after game 7 than after game 6 before there have more rest between game 6 and 7 than between game 5 and 6.

For Memphis, Spurs winning in 7 would give them more rest but you could make the typical rest vs. rust argument.

Saying that, the best would be of course for Spurs to win game 6. Golden State is a great shooting team and they can win a game 7 on the road if their shooters are hot. Playing a series on 1 game against that kind of team is awfully dangerous.

Props for the time perspective Bruno.
I don't feel nearly as bad about a potential 6 game loss now.
Well, we dicked around in Game 4 so gotta deal with it.
Agree, it's still better to finish it in Game 6. Respect the Warriors ability to pull off potential upset in Game 7. End it tonight!
I'll buy Chumpdumper and Blake a drink if the Spurs finish it tonight.

I think Durant had to shoulder too much of the load and he was worn out. When is the last time you saw him miss TWO free throws in the 4th quarter?!?! After what happened in the beginning of the series with the Warriors, I would rather go into the series against Memphis in rhythm. I think that Memphis is an easier matchup for us, they beat OKC without Westbrick and Harden and Kevin Martin is too mentally fragile. I look forward to the challenge of Memphis because, quite frankly, we need to get in that ass to atone for them beating us in 2011 when Mr. Ginobili had the broken arm. I think our outside shooters will be huge against Memphis.

bullshit.

the amount of work it takes to prepare and play through a game 7 beats any extra rest day. Mentally and physically it would be a beating to extend this to game 7
