It's meant to be seen either way.

The trick is being able to make the "switch" in your mind.

Counterclockwise.

:lmao :lmao :lmao

You never fail to impress WC.

First glance, it looks clockwise to me, but I can see it counterclockwise if I look at it from the corner of my eye for a moment then look back at it. After a few rotations though, my mind tends to see her "revert" back to clockwise as her leg reaches the "front" of the picture.

Surprised so many people see it counter first.

Want to see something really interesting? Try to watch the two "Cheat sheets" for this, and see if, by flipping your focus from one to the other, you can make the figure "jump" from clockwise to counterclockwise every half rotation.

Spinners can go either clockwise or counter-clockwise. It depends on which way you spin them.

In the first gif, the bish is always spinning clockwise for me, no matter what.

In the dual gif, she's changing directions often for me.

It would be hard to make these particular images switch. They have lines which emphasize which leg is supposed to be seen as closer to the viewer. Without the lines, your brain tries to make sense of the image and thus, you may be able to "switch" directions or just be stuck on 1.

i can make myself see it one way or another way by focusing on the heel, If I tell myself that I'm looking at the heel of her pivot foot from slightly below her then I can make her spin counter clockwise, and if i tell myself i'm looking at her foot from slightly above her she spends clockwise, you should try that and see if it works for yourself, i can get it to work after a few seconds every time

As opposed to she actually is changing direction?

I saw her switch from left foot to right foot.

Nope. She is switching feet.

I have not been able to "will" the shadow to spin the other way, but it's easy to see the chick spin either direction.

OK, Explain it to me.

You can't will the shadow to spin a particular way, as you can with the figure, because there is not enough visual information contained within the shadow itself to indicate it is spinning in either direction; it merely mirrors whichever direction you perceive the girl to be spinning.

However you're seeing it -- I can't tell if you're saying only that you can't force yourself to see it change directions, or if you're actually seeing it only spin one way even when that is in opposition to the direction you're seeing the girl spin -- is based only on how you're seeing it, not on how it has been animated. The shadow is as intentionally ambiguous as is the rest of the animation.

Her shadow always mirrors her rotation for me. If I see her rotating clockwise, I see the shadow rotating the same way. If I see her rotating counter-clockwise, so is her shadow. If I concentrate on her foot, I can change my perception of their rotation at will.

The train is moving toward the viewer. Do you see the reflection of the red light on the side? It's located inside the tunnel. That light would tell the train operator to stop or that they're going the wrong direction.

So are figure 1 and figure 3 spinning different ways? Obviously they are it's two distinct separate spins.
It's not **the eyes that are making her spin different directions**.

Once you figure it out, it's not hard at all to make it turn the way you want.

It has to do with visually making the feet point away from you. Or the ears. Either works for me.
