He misplayed the last seven or eight minutes of the game. Called time-outs at the wrong time, made the wrong substitutions. He totally wasted George's effort tonight.

Vogel is one of the 3 best coaches in the NBA, tbh..top 5 at worst..
He took a team with no stars, no PG, streaky shooters and no bench and took them deep in the playoffs two years in a row..
Even the best coaches make poor decisions at times, but he doesn't have much to work with, tbh..

It sucks for him that he's going to get shit on by casual fans and media members that haven't followed the Pacers all year and don't know dick about the NBA, but I guess that's what he deserves for choking..

Yea I should've given them honorable mention. But Vogel is a Grade-A moron. Not just for taking your only shot blocker out of the game in the 2 most important possessions of the game, but also for continually drawing up plays for David West in the 4th/OT when he literally couldn't make anything, not even a FT, and Paul George is getting hot. Just mind-dumbing stupidity by the HC.

so in what will be a closely contested series vogel will have to continually leave his best defender on the bench in crunch time. sounds like the heat are a lock then...concede the 99 % percentage shot over the 50% one

You live with a clean look from anybody, any jumper from anyone. You can't live with a pre-game drill layup to the best player on the planet, uncontested, no double. I mean, even the Lakers aren't that dumb.

Although i disagree with his coaching decision, it is not exactly as bad as some people make it out to be. Paul Overrated George made two terrible defensive decision along with George hill that opened up the layup.
Majority of clutch situations end up as jumpshoots and i think vogel was taking that into consideration. It`s not his fault hill and george fcked up IMHO.

Vogel made a lot of bonehead plays down the stretch. That late timeout was ill advised. Taking Hibbert out not once but twice at critical points was insane. Young coach better learn fast or he'll be fishing three games from now.

You have to help your perimeter defenders. With such little time left on the clock, passing to Bosh seemed unlikely. Hibbert could have made a big difference there. If Bosh hits a three over a recovering Hibbert, you accept it. If James and Wade blow by their men for uncontested layups while West watches, you take a hard look at the mirror.

If LJ gets close to rim with Hibbert standing there, you can be certain that there would have be a foul called. You think they're gonna let Hibbert block or alter LJ's shot?
Indy's ball pressure was non-existent. Easy catch in front of an open lane for LJ. I can't recall ever seeing an NBA playoff game decided by a pretty-much unguarded layup.

On a clutch situation, not matching up when an opponent goes small means you get to give them more choices offensively. If you go small, you only need to worry about them getting an easy layup. If you go with hibbert, then can end up with a clean screen then open jump shoot, a blow by then pass, and 12-15 jump shoot or a floater..
I disagree with the decision simply because i think you only get a player or two who`se get enough control and poise to know the latter, but i dont think it was really that bad of a decision.

If anything Vogel was thinking any merit, James would have passed out to Bosh, therefore preventing a foul on Hibbert or more importantly the layup. And I'd rather James have to take two free throws with a second left on the clock than him having an uncontested layup anyway.

I don't think we're arguing the same thing here. I'm not talking about having two bigs in versus playing small; I'm talking about having Hibbert in to guard Bosh rather than West. It's not like West is a great mobile defender or anything. Hibbert spent much of the game on Bosh, so I wouldn't call that a bad match-up for Indiana.
Forcing Miami to make a choice with so little time on the clock is a good thing in my mind. It's a pretty easy assignment on defense: Switch everything and have Hibbert help on a drive. By the time you get a PnR done for Miami, time's up.

You're right, no easy layups in the playoffs ffs.
I'll bet LJ couldn't believe how open the lane was...he was probably planning to do a Wade-esque dive/flop.

Lecrab should have gotten a technical after that one made shot in overtime. According to Lord Stern, you're not suppose to do that. It's showing up the refs. Pathetic. I didn't care much about not having Hibbert in there but by the way every Indiana player defended that last possesion it was obvious that he told his guys to play them very tight thinking Miami would force a jumpshot not realizing that 2 seconds was enough time to get to the basket if you gave them the chance and they did.

No silly goose. Stern is still helping them. The Pacers and other teams that want to be like the 2011 Mavericks have to do something that is very hard. That is keep playing the game. When Stern loves a team, you cannot stand and around and cry like a pussy ie the Kings in the 2002 WCF. You have to keep playing and play to the best of your abilities. You cannot expect to get anything from the refs or Stern. If you simply play better and keep making your shots, you will beat Superfriends. That's how the Mavs did it. Go back and watch game 6 of the 2011 Finals and you will see how bad Stern tried to give that game to the Heat but the Mavs said no. Every time that the Heat started to make a run in the 4th quarter, the Mavs had an answer and did not let up.
