All right, fat necks, time to add some bitterness to those victory burritos you're eating right now in "celebration" of Jim's All NBA first team selection by dropping some cold, hard truth that will illuminate just how unjustified it was to leave Lakers center Marc Gasol off the first team in favor of a senior citizen.

1. Jim wasn't the best player on his team. Marc Gasol was by far the best player on his.

2. Jim can't play more than 30 minutes per game and can't play back-to-backs. Marc Gasol is a warrior who played all 82 games.

3. Jim wasn't the DPOY. Marc Gasol was.

Considering that, how the hell can any rational thinking individual (which I know Spurm fans are not) believe Duncan is more deserving?

This is another example of Stern's anti-Lakers agenda in action. I know Kobe made it, but he's so good, he can overcome the prejudice. Marc Gasol is still young and developing and doesn't yet have the status to succeed in spite of Stern's obstruction, something that is fully on display in the Western Conference Finals, as well. Duncan is allowed to hack, hold, and basically get away with murder while Marc is called for touch fouls.

No matter. "Dem Bears" still coming for that ass. The Lakers always find a way to beat the Spurs when things look grim and this series will be no exception.

I expect Marc, fueled by the miscarriage of justice, to demolish Duncan on Saturday.

The stats are clear:

Duncan 17.8 pts / 9.9 rebs / 2.7 asst / 2.6 blks 50.2%FG in 30.1 mins
Gasol 14.1 pts / 7.8 rebs / 4 asst / 1.7 blks 49.4%FG in 35 mins

As far as DPOY is concerned:

From ESPN: The Grizzlies shot 4-for-24 from five feet and in when Duncan was on the floor. When Duncan was on the bench? Try 9 for 14.

the Spurs’ defense swung by roughly 50 points per 100 possessions when Duncan was on the floor (65.2 points allowed per 100 possessions) compared with when the 37-year-old was off (116.3) in Game 2.

Duncan was very underrated defensively this season. Marc Gasol arguably didn't deserve DPOY. I'm not saying Duncan did, but Gasol didn't deserve it any more than Duncan did.

Here are some stats for you:

Grizzlies' team defense: 2nd in NBA in defensive rating. (Impressive)
Spurs' team defense: 3rd in NBA in defensive rating. (A fact many overlook)

Marc Gasol's personal defensive rating: 98 (very good)
Tim Duncan's personal defensive rating: 95 (led NBA)

Marc Gasol's TRB%: 13.1%
Tim Duncan's TRB%: 19.1%

Marc Gasol's DRB%: 18.9%
Tim Duncan's DRB%: 29.6%

Marc Gasol's RPG: 7.8 (8.0 per 36)
Tim Duncan's RPG: 9.9 (11.9 per 36)

Marc Gasol's BPG: 1.7 (1.8 per 36)
Tim Duncan's BPG: 2.7 (3.2 per 36)

Marc Gasol's PPG: 14.1 (14.5 per 36)
Tim Duncan's PPG: 17.8 (21.3 per 36)

Marc Gasol's PER: 19.5
Tim Duncan's PER: 24.4

Duncan beats him in almost every statistical category except SPG (Only 0.2 in Gasol's favor, 0.1 per 36) and FT% (2.9% better), and assists (1.3 better, 0.9 per 36 better). Duncan also fouls about half as much as Gasol. (1.7 per game to 3.2 per game), which is another thing in favor of Duncan. Duncan's FG% was also 0.8% better.

Here's another stat from the Spurs/Grizzlies series:

the Spurs’ defense swung by roughly 50 points per 100 possessions when Duncan was on the floor (65.2 points allowed per 100 possessions) compared with when the 37-year-old was off (116.3) in Game 2

So what's the joke exactly? Besides the outrage in this thread clearly based on lack of information.

The bigger joke is Gasol getting All NBA 1st team defense over Duncan.

Not only should Marc Gasol be on the 1st team All NBA, but he should be the league MVP over this peasant that refers to himself as a king
