If he was the typical celebrity attention whore, I'd say make whatever circus of it you want to. But here's a guy who's been content not to seek a lot of attention, and has given up a chunk of cash for the privilege. I wish the media would leave him the hell alone. But I know there's no chance of that.

It's immune to shit talking, as long as he's not fathering 20 children like Dwight Howard, or raping women and jerking off once they leave the room like Vino, tbh:lol..

I didn't have a problem with Tiger's actions, nor Tony Parker's..athletes cheating on their spouses is cool with me, tbh, it should be expected..

That's sad to me, always seemed like the perfect sports couple, and this will be hard on the kids. Kinda sucks, Duncan is my favorite athlete and role model on and off the court, never wanted to see this happen to him.

On a side note, I think before I saw that he wanted to just spend time with his family after he retires. Does this change things? Does he get into coaching or something instantly? Maybe next year Pop, Duncan, and Ginobili retire then Duncan takes over as head coach for San Antonio. :p:

Thanks!

American marriages are almost literally a coin-flip. No point in feeling bad or surprised when there was always a 51% chance they wouldn't die married. I say let the man continue his youth revival. Win another championship. Buy a fast car. Go pick up some hoes with Tony. Leave the seat up.

That type of shit.

Good luck, TD. Might I suggest a brunette for next time? It's my personal favorite flavor.

Divorce among regular people is crazy high, among celebrities it's gotta be close to 90% or more. There's just too many options and women/men are just too damn difficult these days. The generations of women starting around 1960 were really growing up with the "Disney Complex" thinking they're princesses and shit and expecting to be catered to and babied. Men of the same era started growing up expecting a housewife like mom and getting wives who have said complex. Most women and men before that, like our grandmothers/grandfathers, grew up with no such pretense and knew life was hard from the beginning so they just stuck it out.

Add in the global communication age and shit like Facebook where exes can find each other and you can meet new people to fuck in the blink of an eye for no cost and it's just too much overload for most people.

Pisses me off.. :cuss

“I would prefer not to discuss that,” said Duncan, addressing reporters with the expressionless stare that has been a staple of San Antonio’s four NBA championship celebrations since 1999. “We will still keep in touch, and I wish her the best in the future.”

Time. I think that's the reason...Even during summer Duncan still come to the gym 3x a week. :(

This is sad. Tim and Amy were an NBA couple I thought would last, they always looked so happy together. Poor kids. Oh well, this was months ago and Duncan's still in beast mode so maybe this won't affect his play.

Maybe Amy is tired of Tim never being around, she probably didn't expect him to be logging deep playoff runs still in 2013 back in 1997. They're almost 40, and Timmy's probably invested a lot of time into his car shop. Not saying I know why, just throwing some ideas out there. Either way, sad news

Its kinda an end of Groundhog Day. Duncan did his work on the court, excelled mostly and then went back home to his wife and kids. Thats how it has been the past 16 years for him in professional sports.

Yeah, the court docs are pretty convincing. I'm not sure there is another interpretation, though I chuckled at the line about Tim Duncan having a son named Draven who was maybe born in 2007 but being unable to confirm the date. Yeah, Amy was very visibly pregnant during the 2007 Finals and there was a very sweet picture of the two of them with confetti falling taken then.

As for their divorce, it's shocking in some ways and completely unsurprising in others. Statistically, they were very likely to be divorced, and none of us really know them. I'm sorry for them and for their kids that their marriage didn't work out, but it happens. It sounds like they are trying for a low-key, amicable divorce. I hope that they are able to remain good partners in parenting for their kids. Given that divorces and the dissolution of a marriage doesn't happen overnight, I doubt this impacts Tim terribly on the court. I still think it's ridiculous that the EN felt this was something that needed to be publicized today.

Why is everyone assuming Amy cheated? No one has ever seen a marriage with kids (huge stressor on a relationship) and one partner who travels frequently (huge stressor on a relationship, huge stressor on parenting dynamic) crumble? Really? FFS, Amy broke up with Tim when he joined the NBA specifically because she didn't think their relationship could handle the strain of the NBA life. After 12 years, one might think the marriage was solid, but there you go. Maybe not so much after all. Maybe they had differing ideas about what life post-NBA would look like. Maybe they grew apart. Why is it being assumed that the wife cheated? Or anyone cheated?

Bah.

If this is true Tim being so close to retirement makes this even more sad. They kept it together for all those years he was on the road during a long and tough season now he has maybe 1 year to go and they may be divorcing. Very sad..

Who knows it's best not to speculate. So many people myself included regard Tim as one of the classiest athletes of all time so we don't want to lump him in with the typical a-hole athlete that is married but cheating left and right. I doubt that is what happened very much..

Yeah, but these days a lot of couples go through trouble when retirement looms. The big difference is that retirement occurs a lot faster in the NBA. An earlier generation mostly kept quiet and stayed married because that is what you did. These days, couples are far more likely to divorce. Add in young people (relatively - 35 and 37 are not that old) and there is a lot of life left to be lived. No idea if that played a role, but it's a huge shift in the dynamics of a relationship to go from months of travel and back and forth and on the road to nothing really except whatever you want to do.

I don't think the same stressors apply to multi-millionaires. And the deal with Amy breaking it off with Tim back in college had to do with Amy not wanting to be an 'NBA wife' who gets cheated on with Duncan having a girl in every port, so-to-speak. Duncan promised he would be faithful and never do that to her. Pretty fuckin ironic.

I promise you that if they have any interaction with their children and are not just handing them off to a nanny (and photographic evidence suggests they are pretty hands-on parents), then children are stressors. And traveling and lack of stable schedule are huge stresses on a relationship. Some relationships cope with that better than others. But again - if they are hands-on parents, traveling affects that relationship. Money makes a lot of things easier (they aren't concerned with making mortgage payments if Tim gets injured on the job, for instance), but it doesn't eliminate the basic stresses of human interactions in a relationship.

That was my initial reaction. Maybe the divorce rumors are true maybe they're not. Maybe someone cheated, maybe not (there are other reasons people divorce after all). But E-N only confirms why no one takes most newspaper journalists serious. Let TMZ or some other outlet do it. Tim's only elevated the city beyond anyone's imagination in the world of sports. And please don't come out with some lame thing like "we just report the news".

Divorce is tough. Having gone through it once I don't wish it on anyone. Having kids it's magnified. Sometimes it's the right decision. You look to things to help you through it. Tim has his drive to win. He'll be fine.

When I've had buddies who have stepped out on their wives - two things have happened:

2. They get a divorce.

When was the LAST time Tim was 1st team all-NBA?

Just saying....

I saw Tim a few months ago with his wife and kids at a park just south of Borne. They sat next to my wife and I as all of our kids were playing in the same area. I was not listening into their conversation but they seemed like a pretty happy couple and were certainly not acting like there was any animosity. My wife was surprised when I told her about the divorce this morning as she thought the same thing that day.

Could be that both parties just decided to move on. It happens. I have a few friends who have divorced but remained very friendly with their ex's, if nothing else, for the sake of their kids.

Some people let their lives play out very publicly, and the neighbors all know about the marital problems from the shouting out on the front lawn. But private people -- which Tim and Amy obviously are -- aren't like that. This could be some kind of problem that's been there off and on for years, and we'd never know about it. Or maybe she was banking on finally having him around all the time by now instead of gone for half the year, but then he goes and has a career renaissance in his late 30s and wants to keep playing, and it led to too much fighting. It certainly doesn't have to be some kind of cheating thing.

I feel bad for them and their kids, and I hope everybody comes out of this ok. But we don't really know any details, they pretty clearly don't want us to know any, and I feel fine respecting their privacy and not worrying about what the details actually are.

If you confirm it without offering details, it helps get the facts out there -- and the story over with -- quicker. Stonewalling just makes it a bigger story while the media keeps digging.

Now the only way the media has to keep the story alive is to dig up dirt from people close to the Duncans who are willing to talk out of school, and I'm not sure that will be easy to do. And it's not like he's a huge tabloid name anyway, so they have less incentive to keep digging than they do for someone with a more hyped name.

Confirm the story fast, starve the media for additional details, let it die as quickly as possible.

What a faggot. I bet Amy got tired of his ugly lanky ass and beta male personality. The gay ass tramp stamp he had was probably a factor too. If Tim wasn't rich he would be pulling 4s at best. Good for Amy, now she can find someone in her league and move out of that shithole San Antonio

Seriously though, any of the theories put forth so far could be right (as could just about any combination of those factors). Short of Amy writing a tell all book I think we might as well get used to the idea of not knowing.

I understand what you are saying, but ball players are home more than they are away. Prob on the road 1/4 of the year. Off on summers. If anything was troubling/stressing the relationship it was probably Duncan's video game obsession :lol

probably more like 1/3 of the year. with the spurs you have the 41 road games, about 5 in the preseason and then about 6 or 8 (sometimes more) in the playoffs. if you give 2 days to each of the games that is about 110 days of the year on the road.

...but she knew this going in so i would be surprised if this was the reason. unless he had promised to retire at a certain point.

Not that it changes anything, but it may have also been something where they were separated but not divorced type of a thing. I didn't ask any details because it's sad and you never know at the time what is true, but they were correct about the divorce at this point so I would have to imagine there is at least some truth.

Just a really sad situation obviously anytime something like this happens to any family.

Women have a way of cheating to "get back" at their husband for perceived injustices. If she feels he wasn't paying attention to her she could have done it for that. At least it wasn't a teammate as far as we know

yep. the great inequality between women and men isn't over pay, it's the fact women can get boned and banged pretty much any time they want. meanwhile, guys have to either work it or throw some shekels at a bitch. Either way, it's an investment, but women don't have to do much, so if they feel slighted, they always have that trump card.
