MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- The mayor of San Antonio says everyone knows the best barbecue and basketball comes from Texas. The mayor of Memphis notes barbecue is prized in his city, where restaurant smoke stacks rise like steeples.
So the mayors have bet barbecue on the NBA Western Conference final.
Mayor Julian Castro will pay up with barbecue from The Granary `Cue & Brew if the Spurs lose, while Memphis Mayor A C Wharton Jr. will put up the Rendezvous if the Grizzlies lose.
The Spurs lead 2-0 with Game 3 on Saturday in Memphis.

I have had bbq in both places. San Antonio all the way. I happen to like bbq sauce... Memphis avoids it.

Are they going to mail a shipment of BBQ over? Unless a mayor is going to fly to the other city?

Fuck Memphis and their shitty flavorless meat covered in flavored dust. If the Spurs finish them off and win the series Castro should send some Bill Miller's trash and say here's Texas' shittiest cue for the shitty loser city to have

All the best BBQ in Texas is dry, while Memphis is world-famous for their wet BBQ.

San Antonio BBQ is garbage anyways, so not like anything Castro would send would be all that much better than Bill Millers. Amazing how much world class BBQ there is 50-60 miles north/east from San Antonio and yet everything in the city itself and suburbs sucks. But seriously, to really hate on Memphis they should send some of that shitty Rudy's brisket.

The moist brisket is not bad, but all in all, Rudy's is trash in terms of BBQ. Cooper's, Luling's City Market, and Smitty's for life.

What world class places are you talking about? Just curious. Also what place do u like best in SA?

City Market out in Luling and Smitty's and Black's up in Lockhart are all amazing. City Market is my #1 for sausage (and overall) and Smitty's is my #1 for brisket (though I have heard Snow's kills even Smitty's on brisket).

It's just a way for local governments to get involved and promote their cities. My suggestion is to de-sand your vagina.

Night and day. Memphis is pit barbeque pulled pork mostly. Texas is beef and sausage mostly. The pork is better, hands down, but beef aint bad either.

I Love that place use to eat there when it was still a hole in the wall. The best puffy tacos you will ever eat in your life. One of the things I miss from San Antonio.

Jacala hasn't been good in a long time. But yeah, it was once incredible.

Just what I was thinking. If you like pork BBQ, go to Memphis, and for beef, head to Texas. It all depends on what you like.

Kansas City has great pork BBQ as does Topeka (little place called Pat's Pig had one of the best BBQ sandwiches I've ever had).

Yeah, don't get me wrong. I've been in AZ for the past 10 months and I drive over 70 miles just to get some Rudys now :lol. I won't touch any of the shit they cook out here. It's been crap every time.

If you're in TX though, there's a higher level. Rudy's ain't it.
