According to KTAR's John Gambadoro, the Suns will hire Jazz assistant coach Jeff Hornacek to be their next head coach. Hornacek was drafted 46th overall in 1986 by the Phoenix Suns, where he played his first 6 seasons (including his 1 All-Star appearance), until being traded in 1992 for Charles Barkley.

@Gambo620: The Phoenix Suns have begun negotiations with former Sun Jeff Hornacek on a contract to be their next head coach.

Jeff has a great basketball IQ

Of course that wont help with the Suns' shitty roster, but give him good players and I think he will do a good job

This reeks of appeasing PR move. He's always been a much beloved, even sympathetic figure before and after the Barkley trade. Now he's the fan-favorite head coach as apprised to much stronger assistants from Title-winning conpetitors. This has that shitty stench of Sarver shortcut written all over it. He could be perfect, but this is far too convenient to be about basketball.

Maybe his mutated looking kids can be his assistants.

Wasn't Hornacek one of the reasons the Jazz even got out of the West?

Probably more important to Utah in the playoffs than Mal:lolne, tbh

Lol, so your owner/management team is so extraordinsrily retarded the fact that they made the decision has you skeptical even though you admit it could be perfect?..Lol thats awesome

Sarver is all about trying to keep the fan base in tact and in touch. Bringing in Hornacek over other non-familiar candidates this early in the process feels like a prodigal Sun type story that will drum up interest short-term as the Suns suck. You can come and root for the underdog as a coach similarly to how you rooted for him as a 2nd-rounder-turned-All-Star back in the day.

They gave him a 3-year deal. Shows they have very little faith in short-term.
