Just dawned on me today and wondered how many times the spurs lost in the finals till I couldn't think of one.

4-0.

Bulls 6-0 with the best ratio so far....

Michael Jordan and Tim Duncan are the only two superstars to have not lost in the Finals in the last 35+ years. A list of losing superstars that includes Magic, Kareem, Kobe, Shaq, Bird, Hakeem, Durant, LeBron, Malone, Stockton, ect...

During the whole Detroit dominance in the east and S.A in the west I thought the Pistons won by beating S.A till I remembered the year of the rapist.

tbh though in terms of context some of those east teams are laughable and were just the sacrificial lamb waiting to be slaughtered.

Nope, we've never lost in the finals.

In four attempts we've also won the series in 4, 5, 6 and 7. So, we've achieved every possible winning outcome in the finals.

They been there more and won more

Same ratio

larger sample size >> wins though.

But 5-0 is very real possibility this year.

They beat the Lakers in '04 (who didn't deserve to be there), then the Spurs beat the Pistons in '05 in a very rugged series. I wouldn't say I'd assume a Spurs win in '04, but it would've been better than the Lakers' pathetic flameout.

That isn't the Spurs' fault though. Maybe this year will be the HCAless title year?

Well we've won 2x in GS and in Memphis. 2 of the "toughest" places to play. I wouldn't mind a HCAless title at all :) Won't be easy, but it'd be awesome.

Like how people must have said the same about 2004 Lakers-Pistons?

fair point. but still. Heat already won the title. No way Stern hands the trophy to popovich in his last year. just not going to happen. (hope I'm wrong btw)

The thing is, we've also never not had HCA in the Finals. Our series against Miami will be the first time without it.

Tbh its looking like a good thing. If the Spurs sweep, they get 9 days off. Better to come out rusty in an away game. Heat have been sucking in game 1s though. If we're going to win, I think we have to split one in Miami. Then its 3 straight games in San Antonio because its the Finals.

I asked this question last year (up 2:0 in the CF):

Would you rather stay 4:0 without making the finals or be 4:1 with us making it (with 5:0 not beeing in the race).

Last year I wasn't sure, but right now I'd just love Timmy to be on the biggest stage again.

After all 4:1 > 4:0 if you see the big picture!

Homecourt doesn't change the number of games it takes to win.

Duncan will be 4-1 in the finals, if we play the Heat.

Nobody said it did. Just that the Spurs haven't won a Finals without homecourt yet.

I'm of the opinion that LeBron will be 1-3.

Losing in the Finals at 37 years old will not hurt Tims legacy in any way, shape or form. In fact, just making the Finals at that age is a huge accomplishment.

I'd much rather be 4-1. A Finals appearance, even without winning, does a great deal of good for a franchise.

Think of it this way. Even if you lose in the Finals, you've still been the Western Conference champion. And get to hang a "2013 Western Conference champion" banner on the rafters (which the Spurs do, I think - I think they hang black banners for Western Conference titles). That's an accomplishment in itself.
