Best game of his career considering the situation and the defense he was going against.

Best series of his career? Yeah, probably.

His excellent passing play in games 1 and 2 set it up. He passed so well when they sagged off and helped on him that they changed their plan to not helping and letting him go 1 on 1. Parker was brilliant however they played him.

What happened between 11 series and 13 ? Tony improved again this game but like I was saying in 11 big difference is a dominant front court, Tim and tiago are the main reason of his dominance this serie IMHOIMHO

Second most dominant player in the NBA when healthy.

Truth.

I presume your rationalization is that, like James, he's an elite scorer and play maker, as opposed to Durant, who though much improved as a play maker, isn't yet (and probably won't ever be) elite at it? If so, that's reasonable. I'd still lean towards Durant, but he's definitely third.

I know most of what can be said about TP has been said, but....

The redemption tour continues. He has had one of the best seasons I've ever seen from a point guard. Yes, Duncan's resurgence played a significant role, but this was TP's team, he was the engine and he got them to the finals as the leader. Along the way (when he was healthy) he was MVP caliber and beat down so many demons that may (or sometimes may not in reality) have plagued him before.

It sort of feels like he's turned a corner with fans and media alike and that he has elevated himself to the proper amount of respect he should have been getting for years.

TP is fantastic.

WOW 15-21 and they weren't easy shots 37 points which was also his season high. Hes going to go down as one of the best PG ever tbh the dude is 31!! his shot is better than ever his passing is better than ever, he really has turned the corner when he was a rookie I would never thought he could develop into a player like this even his defense was exceptional tonight. Im very interested to see how TP will fair against the Heat though their pick and roll defense is exceptional tbh and almost can guarantee you they will trap the pick and rolls, but well see

PLEASE. If he was really that talented he would have led a team past the 2nd round by now. And don't fall in the BSPN trap and make excuses for him via injuries or his supporting cast.

1) He was FINE, no matter what BSPN tells you.

2) He had the best supporting cast of his life these playoffs and couldn't get out of the first round.

3) He still isn't much of a shooter, take away his passing options and he will crumble.

Any sports commentator saying Tony isn't the best PG in the league is just drinking some massive haterade.

YoMamaIsCallin
05-28-2013, 12:46 AM
1. It's not about just putting someone bigger and a better on ball defender on Parker. The Spurs offensive sets are designed to make the defense decide how to help. Look at what just happened to the Grizz plan to defend him with Tony Allen.

2. Parker played just as good a game in game 3. The Grizz tried slamming him on screens with both defenders. So he passed. 18 assists later, a win. So in game 4 they went back to more normal defense. Boom, 37 points. Tony is just taking what the defense is giving him. He reads defenses like a quarterback.

3. I'll post again what I posted after game 3. What the hell happened to DPOY Marc Gasol? He was terrible on help and on the ball screen defensive schemes. And once again Duncan beat him down the floor for a key easy layup.

He is right to credit his guys making screens. He come back and forth behind the screen and in doing so Splitter and to a lesser degree Duncan do a great job in getting the angle where its full on body versus getting on someones hip. Its like the POA on an NFL running play and some FB are better than others. Splitter is perhaps the best combination of pnr offense and defense.

Not many players get as many play off games as Tony Parker has played in. Those points each game add up.

But that's a pretty impressive company to keep tbqh. Who know, by the time Tony wraps up his career, he'll be a close to top 10, or maybe even in it.

Same way it is for Timmy, right? Although Timmy has more games than Tony because he played so many before Tony got here.

But please, keep trying to minimize his accomplishment. It doesn't make you look small at all.

I don't know if anyone has already mentioned this, but Elias Sports reports that:

Tony Parker, in the four games against Memphis put up 98 points and 38 assists. The only other player in NBA HISTORY who reached those figures for a team that swept a best -of-seven playoff series was Jerry West, (who turns 75 this Tuesday). West had 114 points and 40 assists in the Lakers sweep of the Bulls in a Western Conference semifinal in 1972.

Again, sometimes we really don't recognize the great among us.

So, if/when Tony has a bad game against the winner of the East Conference, is he going to get trashed again? You betcha!!!

Chris Ryan:
With about six minutes left in Game 4, Tony Parker caught a Marc Gasol bear paw in the eye. It happened when the Grizzlies center tried to block the Spurs point guard's 17-foot jumper. Gasol is not an opthamologist, but he did stay in a Holiday Inn Express once, so the big man opted to let his teammates run the break while he tended to Parker. Mike Breen treated Gasol's sportsmanship like he just saw an angel lighting the Olympic torch while singing "Danny Boy." One-eyed Tony, on the other hand, was not having it; he was pissed.

Parker's reaction wasn't too surprising when you recall that a little more than a year ago, he was caught in some Veuve Clicquot cross fire (http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8057397/san-antonio-spurs-tony-parker-gets-injured-nightclub-incident), during a nightclub brawl between the entourages of Drake and Chris Brown. He's a little sensitive when it comes to his peepers.

Parker left the game for two minutes, checked back in with about 4:45 left, and promptly buried an 18-footer to put the Spurs up eight.

And then he said "FUCK" on television.

It was the delivery that got me. I knew Parker was one of the best players in the NBA; I didn't need 37 points (25 of which came in the second half) to tell me that. What I didn't know is he was the type of dude to go up the river and kill Colonel Kurtz. This was not the affable French guy telling funny stories about the time "Pop" made him run suicides for missing the third read on a delayed elevator pick-and-roll or whatever. This was a very pissed-off, very dialed-in, very turnt-up, dagger-throwing closer. And he did not want to give the Grizzlies, the city of Memphis, or any member of Three 6 Mafia one little bit of hope. I've always thought Tony Parker was a beautiful basketball player …

Last night, he was a terrifying one.

LeBron is going to decimate that record. He could have 7k playoff points by the time he hangs them up.

LOL Holy shit I've often been accused of being a Tony homer but this is the first time I've been accused of minimizing his accomplishments. LOL!

In order to play a lot of playoff games you have to be a good player. This is obvious. I wasn't minimizing anything. The only way you get high on that list is by playing a lot of games. It IS the same for Timmy. Thats simply pointing out that Tony (and Tim) have been good enough to play deep into the playoffs many years and that their stats add up.

God damn some of you are just so damn defensive right off the bat. We're all Spurs fans here.

If we will the title, most probably TP will be the Finals MVP. Guess who that ties him with? K. Bryant. All this BS talk year in and year out about Bryant being in the same sentence or paragraph or page as Jordan, and our little French #28 draft pick might just end up with a better "Big Stage" resume than the Lakers' beloved Bryant.

In fairness, this board is plagued these days with detractors, so it's sort of understandable how someone would jump to conclusions. I mean, we have the best coach in the NBA, and there's been multiple threads about how we should fire him, ffs.
