I am so filled with child like joy at this moment even as I relish this time as a mature man.
We're back.. WE'RE BACK. It feels wonderful to be so giddy =).
It's like rereading a great book 6 years of living later.
The story is the same, but you see everything different.
I understand now that what separates a Championship team is more than just talent and coaching, luck... they also need an Essence.
And for this collection of hardy men.. is Redemption.
The collapse of last year, our youngsters melting down, Splitter's softness, Parker's off the court nightlife eye cutting and Olympic duties, Manu's fragility, 2011 1st seed ousting by an 8th seed... Bonner's postseason disappearances, Pop's transitioning philosophy to more offense, R.C. Buford DWI, T-mac's career etc... just so many things culminating.
Yet what's ironic and also marvelous is that this is the year the Team finally becomes Tony's, and yet, I believe in his soul he's playing for his best friend Timmy more than any personal accolades.
The whole team is... with a single minded determination to help their wounded leader win that fifth he's been yearning for. We all marveled at TD's rejuvenated play this season, attributed it to diet and conditioning but we were fooled. All this time it was simply a man where playing basketball, was the only place left that made any sense. Where he knew who he was.
When Two Great teams come together near evenly matched I will always pick Spirit over Technique as the deciding factor.
I can't doubt the Spurs fighting spirit. Their togetherness, their hunger, their passion and motivation.
It reverberates in me too, having had a rough few years myself, battered broken hoping tattered, searching for truth and purpose.
I ain't seen it in a long time.. but I say with the utmost delight the Spurs have that Gleam in their eye!!!! :p:
