Why do so many of you "Kiss the Butts" of the Spurs??? They are not "classy". I've lived there and a majority of their fans are garbage and go out of their way to hate on L.A. every opportunity they get! I despise LeBron but will DEFINITELY BE ROOTING FOR LEBRON TO IMPOSE HIS WILL ON THAT HACK OF A CITY!!! LeBron will only have 2...well behind Kobe's 5 titles! Duncan will tie Kobe at 5 and I WILL NOT ROOT FOR THAT AT ALL.

Duncan is whiny and pretentious, I don't see how that's classy. Ginobli made a living off flopping (but I like his skillset). Whatever. And once again, these images and personalities can totally be controlled by the refs. It's easy to stay classy (er Duncan) when the refs protect you all the time. it's not very easy when the refs allow defenders to hack you all the time (Kobe) and then fans say Kobe whines a lot.

The Spurs are owned by Stern's personal friend (and boss, as he's the chair of the board of governors). It's no secret why they've always been treated favorably and reverentially.

I watched Kobe DOMINATE the NBA from 00-11...and while he might not be able to consistently dominate games/series anymore, he's still an elite player in 2013.

Duncan was able to dominate from 99-05.

For me, that ends the discussion. Kobe has had a more dominating career by far.

Ask any casual fan, they'll say Tim who? C'mon now Kobe's greatness goes beyond fg% talking about all time greats these are the names that pops up. Jordan, Kobe, Magic then you go down the list before Duncan gets mentioned. We talking stats, rings, olympics, jersey sales, shoe sales, commercials, mass appeal. Kobe wins on the court and off the court.

Spurs championships and Finals appearances are all a fluke.

1999 - Lockout season, MJ retired, Phil Jackson was not with the Lakers.
2003 - Lakers come off after 3 straight finals and their exhausted, play the Nets in the Finals.
2005 - No Shaq and Kobe anymore, Phil Jackson out of business.
2007 - Against the Cavs, that says it all.
2013 - Depleted Lakers team, a team with 2 stars hobbling, and the best team in the West suffers a major injury. And again, Phil Jackson out of business.

3 out of the 5 appearances have been without Phil Jackson coaching, that kind of says something about Pop. Maybe he just can't get pass Phil. Phil is 4-1 against Pop.

Fueled by Kobe fans terrified of Duncan getting his 5th. That's all LG seems to care about right now. What kind of impact Duncan or Lebron winning a ring will have on Kobe's legacy.

To be fair...Im thinking the same :(

But I can't help but to root for Spurs AT THE MOMENT given how much I despise that manufactured team

Kobefan should, in reality, be rooting for the Spurs. Like we've said before, no one really compares bigs to perimeter players. Duncan's primary rivals this era we're Shaq, KG, and to an extent, Dirk, who's somewhat difficult to compare to Duncan since his game was more perimeter oriented. Kobe only gets compared to Duncan because the great perimeter players of his era (T-Mac, Carter, A.I.) never won anything and/or beat the Lakers in a playoff series enroute to a championship, as Duncan did. And by the time Paul Pierce played against Kobe, he was somewhat past his prime and vastly inferior to Kobe.

So naturally to fill that void, Lebron became Kobe's defacto perimeter rival, even though the two players never matched up in the post-season. If Lebron wins the title this year, the general consensus will be that he's the best perimeter player of the post-Jordan era. And 5>2 won't convince anyone otherwise because of the Shaq factor. As team leaders, they will have pretty much accomplished the same, and people will point to the regular season MVPs and Lebron's superior playoff stats as the "tie breaker."

First of all, Kobe & Duncan are two beasts in their own right. To be playing as great as they have for so long but a poll like that on Lakerground is bound to have one sided resulkts. I'm sure the couple of people who voted for Duncan or tie probably got banned.
