Very gutsy in his line of work to defend Tim that way and call him the best of his generation when so many people hate to hear such words. Simmon's is kind of a tool on some things, but THIS piece was damn good.

Thats why I always defended Simmons! He always gave props to Timmy, Pop and the Spurs, even though he might pick from time to time against us.
That was incredible. I also love how Simmons picked the Heat to beat us in a potential series on SportsCenter...hopefully his string of picking wrongly in Spurs series' continues tbh...

Great piece by Simmons. People who think he's a tool are looking through hater glasses and don't understand what he is - part fan, part sports writer, but most of all a teller of great sports stories.
I think Simmons is totally wasted doing soundbite TV. He should stick to writing interesting articles, making humorous and occasionally insightful podcasts, and making great pieces like this.

As a Celtics fan, Simmons probably relished the opportunity.

Which means we could have been going for at least #7 right now. I honestly think .4 for sure, if they hadn't allowed that bs, we would have won then. And Manu had a dumb foul, but I think small ball killed us ultimately in 06.
But either way, just thinking we could have been going for 7 is amazing. If we played D last year and didn't meltdown against OKC, maybe even 8 lol, but we are where we are, and going for 5 is freakin awesome.

Simmons messed up on saying Duncan does not have cool commercials. Hasn't he seen the HEB commercials?

That made me cry. We are so lucky, as Spurs fans, to have first watched David Robinson, and then Tim Duncan - greatness times 2 - that doesn't happen very often, and it's going to be a sad, sad day when Timmy walks off the court for the last time. Then I will really cry.

Ya, the video was cool, but wasn't exactly great. He did it with very little emotion and it's like he told the producers "one take only" :lol.
The idea behind it was cool, but it wasn't all that high quality IMO and it seems as if he did it so he could point back to Spurs fans that "hey, no matter how much I hate sometimes, I did that video so I am exempt!"

I know - but it's like he wanted to do a more mainstream thing. He's said way more backhanded stupid stuff than he has good with regards to the Spurs.

It's that awkward time when ESPN is forced to turn its hype machine on for the Spurs for a few days until the Heat make the finals.

That is my take also. Love to hear him on a podcast or read his articles. He is a sports fan, Boston first, and only a moderate commentator. Big props to him for picking the Heat and continuing the previous rounds bad picks.

He has an entire library of articles so that he can do that. Reading him since 02, I would have always guessed that SA is is second favorite team.

Exactly, he's always complimentary about the Spurs. He, like a lot of the media this post-season, simply over-estimated the Grizz and underestimated our team. It's no great crime.

Simmons speaks the truth, though. I don't know if we would have beaten the 2004 Pistons or the 2006 Heat in the Finals, but it would have been nice to have the shot.
Oh, well...5!

I've always thought that Bill Simmons is a different person off TV. He is obviously influenced by ESPN and the way they run things with their biased propaganda. Check out this piece by Bill Simmons especially those of you that hate him because I was shocked to hear this conversation come out of his words. This is an interesting conversation for the conspiracy theorists too. Here it is: Fast forward to 13:20

@ 22:42 to about 25:00, there is some pretty honest discussion about how ESPN covers certain teams. Not that this is news to anyone, just enjoyed the honesty.

Simmons always felt this way about Duncan.
Yeah, the section about Duncan in his book is amazing.
And the whole organizing idea around his book -- "The Secret" -- it's like a primer on the Spurs organization.
Here's the pivotal passage about the lesson Isiah Thomas learned by studying the great Lakers and Celtics teams of the 80s and applied in taking the Pistons to their titles:
Those teams were loaded with talented players, yes, but that's not the only reason they won. They won because they liked each other, knew their roles, ignored statistics and valued winning over everything else. They won because their best players sacrificed to make everyone else happy. They won as long as everyone remained on the same page. By that same token, they lost if any of those three factors weren't in place.
Simmons might not think we have the talent or matchups to win a particular series, but nobody who wrote that could fail to appreciate what the Pop-Duncan Spurs have built here.

Damn. We all know this shit in the back of our minds, we get chastised for talking about it, but Simmons just confirmed it. Props to him for calling it out.

thanks for posting the video SA210. still pounding those youtubes lol
it made me take back some of the shit I've said about Simmons. I know he values team chemistry so I'd expect he respects a lot about the Spurs.
Favorite part of this video is when I saw it on ESPN, when they cut to the ESPN host, he was like "Duncan better than Kobe....that's going to cause some debate" or something like that. Typical ESPN reaction.
