One of the bright spots for the grizzlies. He played really well this series. He, to me, was one of the very few players that consistently looked very solid against us. Gave his all and never gave up. He seems like a classy individual, especially during his post game interview.

I still don't see how Hollins didn't start him over Tony Allen.

In the thread of "which Grizzilies players do you worry the most", I picked Pondexter. Fortunately, he is the only one who has a normal offense series.

Pondexter was damn good this series. Only reliable outside shooter they had and when the Spurs were packing the paint, they needed him and others to actually step up and build a house. He did a damn fine job.
Was thrilled when he fouled out the other night.

Agree with this, but cringed every time he celebrated a 3 like he's hitting a game 7 winning shot. Guess it's better than the Warriors flexing muscles but still frustrating.

Carlesimo was on espn talking about the Spurs way of doing things. He said they would meet and talk about potential draft picks or trade/FA targets. They would always ask one question: Is this guy a Spur? Pondexter would pass that test.
Oh, and lol Presti. Traded the pick used to select Pondexter and another first rounder to move up in that draft and select Cole Aldrich.

Yeah, imagine Pondexter on OKC spelling Durant for 8 minutes a night and taking the overrated Kevin Martin's minutes at the 2? Then again, they did come out ahead overall in that series of trades (Pondexter pick came to them along with the Ibaka pick for taking on Kurt Thomas' contract).

Defense over offense tbh
They pride themselves on that
because of that, they lack offense at times

That's great in theory, however, Tony Allen's defense was non-existent this series, specifically last night. Stevie Wonder could see that the Grizz were a better team with Pondexter on the floor, and any edge Tony Allen MIGHT have on the defensive end was severely outweighed by the edge Pondexter had on the offensive side.

A great piece for Grizzlies moving forward. Addresses the aspect of Memphis' game that they definitely need improve, which is 3 point/perimeter shooting. And yeah, based on that post game interview, he seems like a classy and great-character guy.

Always been a Pondexter fan from his UW days.
Glad to see him having a good year after he started out in the league pretty slowly.
Would love to see him as a Spur.

Pon's a nice role player, he should be starting for them come next season.
Not sure the Grizz are going to be back in the WCF anytime soon tho with OKC getting healthy next season, Warriors getting better, HOU possibly with Dwight, etc.
I'd try to trade Z-Bo and see if anybody can take Prince's contract along with him. Since that's a longshot, they might be forced to Amnesty him. They can build around Conley/Marc but unless they get another dynamic player, they're a perennial 2nd round exit tbh.

I don't think the Grizz are that far from becoming a true contender. They have the best 4-5 combo in the game and a decent enough PG. Put Pondexter in the starting lineup and find a solid 3 to take Tayshon's spot. Then find a couple shooters to come off the bench and you're good enough to go deep in the playoffs. If you look at what they struggled at in this series, it was making shots and defense on the pick and roll. You can fix the defense with coaching, but you're not going to improve the shooting overnight with the same group.

I've always been intrigued with this guy as a young player coming out of University of Washington. I remember his draft profile seemed to indicate him tobe a solid player, with a good work ethic, who could play both ends of the court. It's certainly obvious that his outside shot has really developed the past year or so. In addition to watching him as an emerging young player in this league, watching this post-game interview shows him to be intelligent, classy and a good sportsman. He's certainly someone that could be deemed Spurs material. If only....

Last night, me and a couple of dudes were talking about QPon, and yeah, we were high on him being a potential Spur. Would be good to have him as Kawhi's backup, take Neal's spot on the team.

I'm wondering if MEM is regretting even a little bit trading away Rudy Gay. Although he plays "hero" ball and takes a large volume of shots, he may have been that one cog to their offense that could have made a few more of those shots they missed, esp. in the OT game 3. Just a retrospect thought, b/c all I really care about is that we're going back to the FINALS!!!

True, and that's why spurs swept them.

Boy, how sweet would that be?
By now though, he's probably on an inside track to be the starter either in Memphis or someplace else.

Q played great for them all series. Hit a really high percentage of his open looks. Respect for him. He's gotta become a more physical and aggressive defender though.

I too was happy when he fouled out the other night. He was beasting. I was happy whenever Tony Allen (wtf happened to him? he sucks now and was a beast in 2010 against injured Manu) and Tayshaun Prince would check into the game. He seems tough, like one of those Utah swingmen.

Yup, me and those other dudes on the chat room agreed on the same points, namely:
-Classy
-Seems smart enough, with decent BBall IQ
-Good athlete
-Plays within himself and doesn't do too much
-Decent 3pt shooter
-Plays decent defense (By decent I mean, acceptable)
If those traits don't scream "spur", then I don't know what will

Damn I've never heard him speak before, very cool. Seemed automatic every time he took that shot. Had he played more they could have won a game or two.

Yes, I really like QP and he'd make a great Spur one day.
I followed him at UW because I had him as a Development guy in a fantasy keeper league, and he's not only a nice 3 and D player but a very high character guy.

Q-pon is a good player...still has to work to on the defensive end but he can fill it up very very quickly. Saw him many times at UW.

The only one on Memphis team who was consistently good in 4 games.
Sports illustrated wrote an article about him being so disappointed and having a hard time after the Spurs swept their team just after a tough break-up. Asked a date and well seems he managed successfully, with Ms. Tennessee 2012 Chandler Lawson.
looks like Kevin Willis. :D I like this player, he's not afraid to shoot. :tu
