At least Smooth v. Showtime will be a kick-ass fight. Not too bad for an injury replacement if you ask me.
Sucks for TJ, though. That guy has been beastmode of late.

Benson has not looked good lately. He may be ripe to lose the belt even though he will be incredibly motivated to get revenge for the Pettis loss..

Benson Henderson vs. Anthony Pettis - for UFC lightweight title - I'm expecting great things from this fight. It's a toss-up IMHO, but Pettis does have the skill set to neutralize Henderson's strengths.
Josh Barnett vs. Frank Mir - I'll pick Mir, but I'm rooting for the first simultaneous submission in the history of MMA
Clay Guida vs. Chad Mendes - Mendes has been full-on Terminator of late. I doubt that he can KO Guida, but he's going to make him his bitch for 3 rounds
Ben Rothwell vs. Brandon Vera - blah...
Pascal Krauss v. Hyun Gyu Lim - Gyu Lim is a welterweight to watch. I'm calling a KO in either round 1 or 2.

MAIN CARD (Pay-per-view, 10 p.m. ET)
Benson Henderson (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/benson-henderson) vs. Anthony Pettis (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/anthony-pettis) - for UFC lightweight title
This fight will be awesome. I can't wait for the first round. Benson is determined to win this fight as brutal as possible and he will be pressuring Pettis as he said Anthony is worse backing down. All in all IMO Pettis is so sure he will win that IMO he will force the action. I wonder if henderson is gonna take him down as quick as possible or he will test himself on the feet cause IMO on the feet Pettis can make a kill.
All in all I can't wait.
Josh Barnett (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/josh-barnett) vs. Frank Mir (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/frank-mir)
Tough to pick any guy. I mean Josh is going forward always but Mir can counterstrike with a punch or submission. But the pressure that Josh can bring can be again too much for Mir and he can fall. I pick a guy that is much more mental strong. Not necessary a guy with better gameplan.
Clay Guida (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/clay-guida) vs. Chad Mendes (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/chad-mendes)
I hate Clay! His response to Ariel during press was pure stupid.
IMO Chad is the best 145er just behind Aldo. I hope he will finish that ape.
Ben Rothwell (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/ben-rothwell) vs. Brandon Vera (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/brandon-vera)
main event? huh why?
Vera bulked up 241 ! He is quicker and can outpunch Ben. If Ben not gonna be able to land a punch in the 1st he is done
Erik Koch (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/erik-koch) vs. Dustin Poirier (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/dustin-poirier)
hard to pick. But I hope Koch will now start to collect victories
Gleison Tibau (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/gleison-tibau) vs. Jamie V (http://www.mmajunkie.com/fighters/jamie-varner)arner
Easy pick for me. Impressive victory

Benson Henderson vs. Anthony Pettis - Pettis is a great fighter, but benson is gonna take this one. The only way I see Pettis winning is if Benson makes a mistake or gets caught slipping, which just won't happen. I don't even think this will go 5 rounds.
Josh Barnett vs. Frank Mir - This will be a good fight because of their wrestling skills. Mir right now is not Mir of old and I think that will be enough to give Barnett the nod here, he hung with Cormier for 5 rds and it went to decision so yeah, he can handle UFC competition
Clay Guida vs. Chad Mendes - I don't know, Guida has taken some mileage and I don't think he can stand up to Mendes punch power. It's still winnable for Guida though.
Ben Rothwell vs Brandon Vera - This is just pure entertainment
Erik Koch vs. Dustin Poirier - This should be a good fight, I'd give Poirer the W here though. *in my GSP voice..* Koch doesn't really impress me.
Gleison Tibau vs. Jamie Varner - Not an expert on either fighter, but when in doubt, I pick the Brazilian wrestler

MAIN CARD (Pay-per-view, 10 p.m. ET)
•Benson Henderson vs. Anthony Pettis - for UFC lightweight title
This fight will largely define Benson's career so the pressure is on for him to step up and I expect that he will. I think another close one is possible if not likely but I like Benson to dig deep and pull this out by a pretty clear UD..
•Josh Barnett vs. Frank Mir
I think this matchup favors Mir with the grappling being about even and the striking as well. I think Mir can edge Barnett out on points.
•Clay Guida vs. Chad Mendes
Guida VIA boring everyone to death..
•Ben Rothwell vs. Brandon Vera
Vera VIA sucking just slightly less..
•Erik Koch vs. Dustin Poirier

dbreiden83080
09-01-2013, 06:32 AM
That Main Event sucked.. 4 min of Benson trying to wear him down on the cage and then he immediately taps out when he gets stuck in an arm bar. Go watch Jones/Vitor Benson because for fuck sake that was sad to verbally tap out like that.. As long as Pettis has that belt Benson is not likely to get another crack at it now that he is 0-2..
dbreiden83080
09-01-2013, 06:38 AM
I think it is time for Mir to retire. That arrogant attitude of his does not fly when you are 0-3 of late. He is 34 and now clearly on the downside of his career. At HW he is just going to get beat up more.

I still can't believe how shitty Bendo/Pettis 2 was. I mean it was a finish but an odd one for sure. Bendo is great on the ground usually and often competes in grappling tournaments how the hell did he let Pettis arm-bar him so easily? Just a strange fight..

I don't think so. He just knew it was over. Herb stopped it initially as both fighters set the outcome. Herb was not stopping it until Pettis stared to celebrate and Ben stopped fighting

I'm by no means a Benson fan (think he's been handed a couple of victories where he was soundly beaten) but I was pretty shocked about how quickly he went down. That was one of the slickest submissions I've seen in a long time. They said he didn't look affected by those kicks but man when I saw them I thought his face looked like he was about 3 seconds away from going down. I think it definitely affected his approach and he wanted to go to the mat ASAP because his chest/side was wrecked. He also looked pretty cocky and didn't think Pettis would go for a 100% submission that early. Just thought he'd lay on him for 30 seconds and then get some recovery time to heal from those kicks.
For all his bluster, I thought Henderson was pretty overrated as a champ. They kept talking about his skills as "top notch" but he never really showed that, with his size he should be laying dudes out rather than eeking out decision victories. He deserved to be the champ, but to have that "great" label affixed to you, you've gotta do more than just lean on the judges *every* fight. GSP does this to a point but he usually decimates opponents, so it's a different situation. I really want to go back and watch the Melendez fight again now.
Edgar COULD come back to LW and fight Melendez for a championship contender eliminator. That would be awesome. Instead it will probably be TJ vs. Melendez next, which should be a really good fight. Will be interesting to see if Edgar migrates back to LW now that the champ is a guy he hasn't faced yet.
Pettis knocking off Benson blew that division wide open.
