View Full Version : [inside story] about lebron and duncan after 2007 finals

Nobody really knows for sure what happened or how valid this story is, or what was said but according some people I know (who are within the spurs organization)… after the conclusion of Game 4 of the 2007 NBA Finals, Lebron and Duncan met outside the locker rooms to talk/congratulate one another or whatever. Duncan supposedly told Lebron to keep his head up and that “this league was gonna be yours in a few years” (or so we thought haha) and thanked him “for letting the Spurs have this one”. This was symbolism for the pasting of the torch from generation to generation. If Heat meets the Spurs in the finals…. Oh the irony (if the torch wasnt passed and it never became his league)… or perhaps a movie ending with Lebron actually beating his arch nemesis that he couldn’t beat in the beginning but after the trials and tribulations or crucibles, he was able to overcome his rival.

Thanks for the inside info. I also heard from someone in the Spurs Organization (pretty high up) that after the 03 title, Popovich jokingly criticized his team's start against the Nets. Take it for what it's worth...

Bron is 0-2 vs Texas teams. Hopefully 0-3 if they get passed Pacers. So if your rec is 1-3 overall in the NBA Finals. This league isn't yours.

I thought this thread was going to about what Stephen A. Smith said a couple of days ago. Stephen Smith said that Duncan told Lebron after he swept him that he would meet him in the finals again. Skip Bayless joked that Duncan probably didn't mean 6 years from then.

Stephen A was totally wrong about what Duncan said to Lebron.

This wasn't about the video we have all seen with Duncan and Lebron in the hallway. Who's to say Duncan didn't say that? That actually sounds like something Duncan would say.

no video exists... the only reason i know this is because someone (on the inside) told me what happened. like i said beofre, take it for what its worth. more likely, this is just one of those larry bird stories like when he went into the locker rooms at the allstar 3pt contest and said "so which one of u guys are gonna finish 2nd"

There is nothing that clip showed that showed Duncan say, "I'll see you again in the finals." It's not hypothetical. Cameras don't catch everything, but analysts and writers are always there. Stephen A. Smith even said once he knew NBA players' wives who have cheated on their men. The guy has more connections than any writer/analyst in the NBA. I hate the guy, but I know he hears everything.

That doesn't sound like something Duncan would say to me, but who knows. Stephen A said as Lebron was leaving the arena and stopped by the interview room to congratulate Duncan. That looked an awful like the video that we've all seen. It's quite possible Stephen A forgot what was said, but i think he got it wrong.
