As a champion or runner-up of the NBA 2012-2013 season, the Spurs will play a regular season game in México City on Wednesday, December 4.
The San Antonio Spurs are one of two teams chosen to sell-out the 'Arena Ciudad de México'. The game -which will be the first regular season game held in México since 1997-, will be officially announced on a press conference next week.

The Minnesota Timberwolves, Milwaukee Bucks or the Los Ángeles Clippers where mentioned as possible rivals to the Spurs.

There it is, too bad that I live much closer to San Antonio than to México City :lol
But its always possitive to have the Spurs play in México, according to a national survey they are the 3rd most popular NBA team in México.

Also, the México City Arena seems legit, it opened last year with a 300 million USD investment and a preseason game between the Magic and Hornets was held there past october, I haven't been there but this might be a good chance to get a press pass and go behind the scenes to meet my Spurs once again :toast.

This is pretty cool.. Maybe with a game there and a finals win, we can steal some more of those bulls fans hanging on from the 90s.

The landscape has not change since the 90s because the main tv powerhouses stopped broadcasting basketball some years ago..They are not even fans of lebron james...

I would suggest a Los Angeles opponent to play against in Mexico, given the huge Hispanic population in Los Angeles.

I agree, TV Azteca broadcasted some NBA games like 3 years ago but they only broadcasted one game a week on sunday at 2AM in the morning, which was viewed as disrespectful to those without access to NBA Broadband or other more costly means to watch the games

Either this is an old poll, or 2.4% of Mexican basketball fans didn't notice when their favorite basketball team moved to another city.

Oddly Mexico City is the safest place in Mexico. But regardless I still think is dumb for US Leagues to play regular season games overseas...

Mexicans still rooting for the Bulls?

Gotta say, that's a long-lasting loyalty for bandwagoners of a 1990s dynasty.

I can understand the Lakers, given their recent success and the proximity of L.A. to Mexico, but Chicago is far from the Mexican border.

There are many Mexicans who still think Michael Jordan is still in the league.
