inShare..It was rumored, and now it's here: on stage at D, Sundar Pichai just revealed a new version of the HTC One that runs an untouched, stock version of Google's Android operating system. It will be available from the Google Play store starting June 26th for $599. The unlocked device will run on both AT&T and T-Mobile in the United States with support for high-speed LTE data on both networks. This "Nexus user experience" version will contain 32GB of built-in storage. Much like the special edition Samsung Galaxy S4 unveiled during I/O, Google will be directly handling future software updates.

With the announcement, customers can now purchase the two leading Android handsets available today stripped entirely of the custom — and often criticized — manufacturer "skins" they originally shipped with. Suffice it to say, with both devices running identical software, it will be interesting to see which Google Edition smartphone proves more popular in the weeks and months to come.

You will not be disappointed.

Sense 5 has impressed me quite a bit. I've always been a stock android/cyanogenmod/miui guy, but this is the first time I have come across a stock manufacturer shell of android that I am happy with. It's not perfect, but I like it enough that I don't plan on flashing a new rom anytime soon. It's infinitely prettier looking than touchwiz and even stock android IMO.

4.3 on CM will have to really impress me for me to make the change. The only other rom I would consider is MIUI. I've rooted, flashed a deodexed and debloated version of stock, made a few adjustments through rom toolbox, and I am happy.

android purists, and people who love to customize their phone to extreme amounts, wont be huge fans of sense 5 probably. but people who like a clean, eloquent looking interface, should like it a lot.

The main benefit with the Google version will of course be getting andriod updates much quicker. Not enough to make me regret getting the sprint version last week, but definitely something worth waiting and spending the extra $25 over one of the non contract carrier versions. The m7 One is definitely the phone to get atm, though it'll be interesting to see what Google and Motorola have coming once the latter clears out there current pipeline.

If nothing else, the carrier versions should also benefit when the Google edition comes out, simply because the AOSP ROM of the Google edition should form a pretty good basis for any custom ROM development.
