Spurs all the way man, I grew up despising them and the rivalry with Duncan. But there is a HUGE difference if Duncan wins or Lebron.

If Duncan wins, you will only hear about what a legend Tim, Tony, Manu and Pop are. If Lebron wins, you will be hearing it all over this Summer that he surpassed Kobe already and now he's competing against MJ.

If Lebron loses, it will be DEVESTATING to his legacy.

You might as well root for Duncan. People already consider them equals. If Lebron gets this year and another people will consider him far superior to Kobe.

it's a hard choice now imho. you could choose to side with Heat before the playoffs began because they were the better team, but if the finals take place today between spurs and heat it'd be hard to say who's gonna win it. i'd like to see big shitty get his old abominable ass bludgeoned by lebron and miami but the spurs have an awesome coaching staff, and their guys have been playing together for so long they have unshakable camaraderie among themselves. and they've already made an auspicious start in the conference finals, i won't be surprised at all to see the brash Miami get asskicked again in the finals tbh

imo they'd want the Heat to win so that they'll gear up next year to stop the Heat3peat

Yeah, lakerfans are screwed either way. If the Spurs win, the Kobe nuthuggers can't use their more rings argument. Suddenly, Duncan's other superior achievements (more MVPs, Finals MVP, better winning %) clearly vaults him over Kobe and there's nothing Kobe fans can say.

If Lebron wins, everyone starts comparing him to Jordan, leaving Kobe out of the conversation.

You don't have to root for either one of them. Just enjoy the watching the games while drinking a beer, solves every problem tbh :hat

LeBron surpassing Kirby has already been done, tbh.....

4 MVP's and a first-option ring with Finals MVP the same year > Kirby's entire legacy

good point.

for the Kobetards, this is their Kobayashi Maru.

though I wouldn't be shocked if some of the biggest Kobetards become hardcore Lebron fans if he wins more.

I have no LeBron hate and actually admire him for taking less money to team up with Riles, Bosh & Roid King…But you got to respect Pop for doing it without NBA Food Stamps…That playoff game where he benched 5 starters made me LMAO…Try that in Los Angeles…Timmy is a class act…Manu is fearless…I don’t care for the little guy who is always trying to bang the other players wives…Bad Form Dude…

I'll be rooting for the Heat. Even if it's been about 8 years since the last title, I would like the Lakers to close out the entire page of Duncan and Kobe;s career with the Lakers having more titles. Should be a great series.

It'd be Lebron winning regular season MVP and finals MVP in the same season for two straight years, something no one other than MJ has ever done.

Winning MVP and finals MVP in the same year is what separates the all time greats from everyone else. Jordan did it, KAJ did it, Bird did it, Magic did it, Duncan did it, Shaq did it, Olajuwon did it, Chamberlain and Russell did it except finals MVP wasn't around for most of their careers. For whatever reason Kobe gets a pass as the only "All time great" who's never won MVP and finals MVP in the same year.

Repeating as the alpha is much harder tbh ...
Achilles did it ..
Shaq did it ...
Hakeem did it ...
Magic did it ...
MJ did it it plenty
Russell did it ...
Isiah did it ...

Lebron may do it ...

Bird and Duncan getting pass as all-time greats that failed to repeat ...
Much more impressive tbh ...

Im not even saying I agree with the above but when you compile a silly standard like that ... I can do the same. (no offense DOK)
I know some will say repeating is a team accomplishment but to win a Finals MVP or even a regular season MVP your team needs to play well.
So any abirtray standard could exclude a great player.

Repeating truly requires sustained greatness, so does multiple rings ...that is why the greats: MJ, Magic etc value them most.
Never heard Mj once brag about his MVP "double" he talks about 6 ...

I was a Spurs fan growing up when they weren't playing the Lakers/Rockets, and rooted for them alot particularly after the 2004 finals since the Lakers were garbage and the Rockets never went anywhere.

I'm not sure how many people are going to put Duncan past Kobe on their all-time lists if Duncan rings again this year. Kobe will be viewed higher just because Duncan has been underrated his entire career and is less of a superstar in the eyes of fans and sportswriters, but I can definitely see alot of people putting him right up there with Kobe. This is Tony Parker/Pop's team anyway. Duncan doesn't really have to do much offensively for this team to win. Any time Duncan goes for 20/10 people get excited... which is an indicator of how far he was from his prime self about 8 years ago.

Lebron will only have 2 rings, but people will definitely be slobbing on his knob if he wins again this year. He'd really need to end his career with 4 rings if he wants to be put in the "GOAT" category and surpass Kobe's legacy. Even if he were to win this year and next year, but never win again the remaining 4 or so years of his career his hype and overall placement among the greats will definitely wane. People like to live in the moment and his will pass five or so years from now when he is no longer the monster we see today.

Again I just want a good series. Spurs winning is bittersweet for teh NBA forum tbh ... sure some will use that as fuel for the Duncan>Kobe debate which for me will be awesome, since for the past 4 years all I heard was that rings were a team accomplishment ...but bull-shit like the MVP award and Finals in the same season meant more. So now if Duncan wins 5 now that makes him greater than Achilles and Snaq? Freaking hypocrites.

For the record if Duncan does win, especially beating Lebron again it means a lot to me Im just looking for the hypocritical bullshit on here if the Spurs win ...
So many threadfs that I can bump ... I can't wait ...

Truth. Besides being a Spursfan for life, the NBA forum value goes through the roof if the spurs ring again. So many hours of time was spent writing bullshit posts, pissing on "TOSB", mocking regular season championships, etc etc that it would be a comedy gold mine in these here archives.

That ain't what he's talking about. He's talking about saying rings don't matter, that 5 rings should not make Duncan better than Kobe if Duncan is already better than Kobe. He's not looking for justice... he's looking for the reckoning. Actually not even that, he's desperate because his hero is tits up and Duncan is long stroking it.

Duncan winning a 5th title doesn't really matter all that much to me. Basketball nerds will argue for him to look cool and stand out but NBA players and coaches and the media will all agree that Achilles is better, 5th ring or not.

LeFlop winning would be more annoying because of the bandwagon fans and media that hate the Lakers and hype everything Heat-related.
