Benicio Del Toro Cast in Lead Role for Guardians of the Galaxy

Guardians of the Galaxy is an upcoming American superhero film (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superhero_film) based on the Marvel Comics (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_Comics) superhero team of the same name (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guardians_of_the_Galaxy_(2008_team)), produced byMarvel Studios (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_Studios) and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walt_Disney_Studios_Motion_Pictures). It is intended to be the tenth installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_Cinematic_Universe). The film will be directed by James Gunn (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Gunn_(filmmaker)), with the screenplay written by Nicole Perlman, Chris McCoy, and Gunn. Chris Pratt (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Pratt), Dave Bautista (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dave_Bautista), Zoe Saldana (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zoe_Saldana), Michael Rooker (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Rooker), Lee Pace (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Pace), Ophelia Lovibond (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ophelia_Lovibond), Glenn Close (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glenn_Close), Karen Gillan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karen_Gillan) and Benicio del Toro (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benicio_del_Toro) are set to star.Producer Kevin Feige (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Feige) first publicly mentioned Guardians of the Galaxy as a potential film in 2010, and Marvel Studios announced that the film was in active development at the San Diego Comic-Con International (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Diego_Comic-Con_International) in July 2012. Gunn entered negotiations to write and direct the film that August. In February 2013, Pratt was hired to play Star-Lord (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star-Lord), and the supporting cast was filled out over the next few months. Filming is scheduled to begin in June 2013 at Shepperton Studios (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shepperton_Studios) in London, England. The film is scheduled to be released on August 1, 2014, and will be released in 3D (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3-D_film).

Those are names from a different literary universe, not superheroes from this world. Wanda's a normal name, might as well be Sarah or Jennifer, and Antman has got to be the least intimidating name I've ever heard, I literally thought it was for a parody. See, Thanos is alright because it's different.

I guess, but mainly that there's less of them because it requires a larger attention span.

My original point was that the names "Wanda" and "Antman" are retarded. Frodo and Gandalf aren't for the same reason Yoda and Spock aren't, because they're "not of this world"

My point before that was that this looks like comics for hipsters, more obscure and lame as ahit

dude I haven't read any of the books. After I saw TLotR trilogy for the first time I spent pretty much every second of my free time online reading all about the universe Tolkien created. I didn't even care about the books anymore, I was more interested in the ridiculously detailed history of everything. But fwiw I love how all these characters (even Frodo) are involved, ESPECIALLY Radagast considering there were only 5 wizards sent to Middle Earth. I know Jackson is a big time Tolkien fan so it's not as if he's gonna go off and do his own thing while leaving Tolkien in his rearview

We don't know yet, but in the comics they have interacted with the Avengers

Plus Thanos is most likely to be the bad guy in Avengers 3

And Reilly's chracter is SHIELD's liaison @ Nova Corps, from what I'e read

Yes there is a McGuffin that must be an infinity stone

It has to be, since it's likely that the Collector (we saw him at the end of Thor 2) is working for Thanos

There was also a Thor-thrashing-Loki-type-scene that had the audience damn near cheering that was spectacular.

As the GOG is not a comic i'm as familiar with I enjoyed it, every character had a chance to be a badass including Rooker's which was surprising to me and unexpected. I also like that even though it had zoe saldana, who i absolutely abhor, they didn't need to make the female character "I am woman hear me roar" annoying like we saw in thor 2 and iron man 3. Expected more badassery one liners from the raccoon though, cause disney has to see the $$$ in that character when it comes to the kids. Lastly if I had to say one bad thing about it, and it's a weak critique. The drax character just felt unnecessary, he wasn't a bad addition but what the fuck did he do exactly.

Yeah, I was completely unfamiliar with the storyline as well, so getting to see each character fleshed out a bit was cool. I liked 'em all, aside form Zoe's...which seems to be the overwhelming sentiment.

I've heard the biggest complaint with Drax (from people knowledgeable of the character) is that they made him out to be some kinda pussy (which, evidently, he's anything but in the comics) that couldn't handle ANY big bads. He kept trying, and kept getting fucked up. I dug his dry sense of humor, though.

Hell, the humor throughout was on point like a muh fucka, and you even found yourself kinda caring about the characters by the end. And as a huge P&R fan, I was curious to see how "Andy" would do in a role like this. Nailed it.

I could see where it could become sort of like Star Wars for this generation of little kids, the characters are somewhat similar and my 5 year old was running around the house with an iron man mask on all night saying he is "Star Lord"!
