After the way Green played in the WCSF, there's no way I'd want Jack to have been on the team. The Heat are literally the only team against whom he could have been useful, and I'd rather Pop just go big instead of trying to match Miami's small ball, anyway.

In spite of Jackson being statistically one of the worst players in the NBA this year and there being a strong chance that he wouldn't been in the playoff rotation; it still would've been nice if he had remained on the team for nothing more than to be apart of this special ride. It would've been nice to see Jack potentially win another ring with Duncan.

Opportunities like this are far and few between and there is a strong likelyhood that Jack is kicking himself over the way he handled things.

Seems like he left out the best backcourt scorers on the team, which was supposed to be his role. I'm not sure about the Parker thing though since it isn't like he could've ever gotten Parker's job. But him not being friendly with Green or Manu makes sense if he wanted a job there and thought of them as rivals/obstacles. I don't fault him for that part tbh.

Tuesday he revealed who he was talking about: Danny Green and Manu Ginobili.

Jackson insists Popovich wanted him to admit Green and Ginobili were better. More than likely, Popovich simply told Jackson they were better. That's why they were playing instead of him.

Pride wouldn't let Jackson accept that, and he admitted as much Tuesday. After showing the initial flash of anger when talking about Popovich, he later said Popovich knows him well, and that the release “was best for me so I wouldn't go crazy.”

Or, as Jackson said Tuesday, again smiling, “I wouldn't want me on the team, either.”

I loved him while he was here, but like Manny said, the same thing that made him an NBA player is the same thing that lead to him being out of the NBA. There are some guys who offer enough basketball wise that you put up with their occasional crap (Latrell Sprewell, JR Smith, Carmelo) but Jack isn't in that category anymore. They let him go before he poisoned the locker room. Good riddance.

Nice spin job, too. "I'm happy, I got my money." Well, if you weren't such a childish malcontent, you could have had your money and a title shot.

I understand that he'll get a ring, but it's probably more about being a contributing factor to it, than the tangible ring itself. I don't know how someone could take pride in being a part of something when a team paid you to go away.

For most people, anyway.

No ring. The organization decides who gets that. They paid him to go away.

He'll probably get at least a half playoff share for playing most of the regular season. The players decide that.

San Antonio Spurs (http://sulia.com/channel/san-antonio-spurs)
Ric Bucher (http://sulia.com/ricbucher/)
+ Trust Stephen Jackson believes the Spurs released him when they did so they could assure themselves of not facing him in
the playoffs. Jackson came on my radio show today @957TheGame to talk about his departure as well as his concern about a comment he made earlier this week being misconstrued. Asked elsewhere about his departure from the Spurs, Jackson was subsequently quoted in several places that he was not upset because "I got my money," as if that's ALL he cared about. (The entire interview can be heard here: http://media.957thegam... (http://media.957thegame.com/a/75888512/stephen-jackson-gives-his-thoughts-on-the-nba-finals.htm)). Knowing Jack as I do -- going back to his first turn with the Spurs when Tim Duncan first anointed him as his favorite teammate -- I believe there were two reasons he answered as he did. The first is that getting released didn't cost him any money and he was simply stating that fact; the second is that it very much bothered him that coach Gregg Popovich cut him out of the postseason, a time Jackson has traditionally excelled, especially as he's looking to land another contract. Apparently there were issues for several months, because Jackson asked that he be dealt before the trade deadline. When Pop later wanted him to concede that Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green were better, Jackson refused. Popovich, concerned about the team's chemistry, then decided the risk of a fractured lockerroom was too great with Jackson mad-dogging his competition for minutes. Jackson suggested on the radio that he did challenge the younger wing players in practice and that that may have indeed led to his ouster, but he maintains that any player who wants to cut it in the league needs to be able to face and overcome those battles. To be fair, Jackson, statistically, was having one of his worst years, but he said the drop had less to do with a decline in his game and more to do with learning, for the first time, how to be an efficient bit player. There is some merit to that -- players who have consistently played 35 or more minutes and have that sliced in half are like starting pitchers going to the bullpen: it requires a different approach. Also to be fair: Jackson's career is one long testimony to believing in yourself when no one else does. Refusing to concede, no matter what the circumstances, is how a second-round pick who played in a half-dozen countries before he broke into the NBA has carved out a 13-year and counting career, including six trips to the playoffs. That he wouldn't to Pop is hardly surprising. For me, it's also admirable.

Whatever. The Spurs are 3 wins away from another NBA title. And Jack continues to be a drama queen. It's obvious who's winning right now.

Boy my respect and understanding for Jack just keeps flowing out. The fact that he antagonized younger players under the guise of "toughening them up" is absurd. He may well still be the hungry player who believed in himself and did everything he could to get his chance, but he's definitely no longer the "ultimate teammate" Duncan described him as. I don't know what Jack has going for him if the doesn't have his fierce loyalty to his teammates anymore.
