I just love that map. I hope that it gives Stern and ABC some pause as they decide how to officiate and cover the games, respectively.

This'll probably be the first time my friends will be rooting for the spurs. Every time the spurs get into the finals, they always root for the teams the spurs against. I just don't know why. One of them said the Spurs are boring, but then rooted for the Pistons.......

It would have been hilarious if enough Orlando fans had voted for the Spurs to make Florida itself turn blue on the map, too.

Very funny but also very true.. I've seen more people wearing Spurs gear and sales went through the roof when they won the WCF. It's crazy but 2 out of 3 people hate Lebron and the Heat

Stern might get his ratings now with SA in the finals. The East and West coast hate is big.

Now, how to make San Antonio lovable when they have not been marketed... ?
Juicy stuff. Dare they go full steam on TD's filed divorce, a crapload off the back emergence? Nope, Tim won't play.

If the Spurs go up, and the evil empire wanes for a moment, what angle to get some love? Could it involve TEAM basketball? Nope. That's certainly not for the masses. Tony... Tony has some good games, make him a French God. Nope. French God's are short and try to take over Europe... Lebron's mom and Tony. Won't fly.

It may well be an impossible task. Requires too much basketball played the right way.

Heat fans. If you're dealing with a Heat fan from somewhere other than Florida, there's a good chance you've encountered the worst kind of front-runner on earth, as well as the target demographic for Axe body spray. If you're dealing with a Heat fan from Miami, there's a decent chance that person has been party to some form of financial fraud in recent years, and is also the target demographic for Axe body spray. Neither group watched Heat games three years ago, and they all think that (a) LeBron James is better than Michael Jordan, and (b) Drake's new album is so swag. In general: A LOT of Heat fans are Justin Bieber, but only one of them is actually Justin Bieber.

As an SDSU grad rooting for Kawhi and living in LA. You got this right. I am a part of a group of 5 SDSU grads that has been watching San Antonio pretty religiously for the last two years and have grown a TON of appreciation for this team.

In addition, don't know if you guys know this, but due to Kawhi, the Spurs actually have 1000's of Lakers fans converted to Spurs fans in San Diego.

I call it the Kawhiet Cult. Good luck in the Finals San Antonio.

Well, ok I welcome the bandwagoners EXCEPT Skip Bayless. You stay off the wagon, you clown. Ok new Spur fans time to join us and go to war against the superteam, the dancing fools, the heatles, the ass kissed media darlings or whatever the fuck they're called this week. The Spurs got enough for one more fight, take it to them!!

Now, how to make San Antonio lovable when they have not been marketed... ?

It's all the media storylines you'd expect:

The Spurs: the classic retro-franchise who everybody (read: we) have taken for granted; also, can the over-the-hill gang defeat the in-their-prime champs (never mind that the Heat have more old dudes than we do)
Tim Duncan: the quiet superstar who works hard and does everything the right way
Tony Parker: exciting penetrating player who's also tabloid fodder; best point guard in the league? 3rd best player in the league?
Kawhi Leonard: a breakout draft steal; can he stop LeBron? (hint: no, but maybe he can slow him down)
Popovich: the living legend coach who has reinvented everything the team did

There's a bunch of these storylines out there to hang articles on, and it's time to promote the Spurs, so the media are firing away.

I never understood the concept of rooting for another team that isn't yours. I mean I got into w/ a couple of "Spurs" fans who cheered for the Mavs when they played Miami. My thing was just because they're a Texas team doesn't mean you cheer them on. They're the Mavs, you might as well be cheering for the Lakers.

If my team goes out in an earlier round I'll still watch to see what happens, but I'm not rooting for anyone.
