I was just watching that on ESPN... I don't get why Magic forced Achilles into that convo... I get he's a severe lakerfan, but you're talking to a top 10 all time, legendary player... I can see bringing up Kirby when talking to T-Mac, but Duncan? He's in another category altogether, IMO.

Let's be sensible here. Kobe is definitely in the conversation with Duncan, it's foolish to pretend otherwise. Most Spurs fans would put Duncans achievements ahead of Kobe, myself included, but Magic was right when he said Kobe was the biggest winner of this generation.
I don't know, Kobe might be top 10, maybe the 2nd best 2 guard over Jerry West and I don't know who else, I kinda thought he's either top 10 or top 15. Definitely an all-legend guy.
Tim's in a different category though, he's top 5, a starter on the all-time team if you ask me. Bill Russell's his front-court mate, we're benching Kareem for Tim (took a decade for Jabaar to get # 2 thanks to having half of the league's dominant players.) Putting him in the top 10 argument somewhat ignores his dominance - especially if you're doing it solely based off boxscore stats.

What part of this video did Magic say Kobe was the biggest winner of his generation?

Nah, Kobe's not in the conversation. The facts are clear. Kobe's a cancer whose team wins in spite of him. Duncan's a player whose team wins because of him.

Kobe is too selfish to be put in the same class as Duncan. Kobe rode Shaq's coattail for three of those rings. As Kobe got better during that three-peat and Shaq's role started diminishing, the Lakers slowly started to decline. Biggest proof was the 2004 NBA Finals vs Detroit. Kobe disappeared in those finals against Tayshaun Prince.

You might not like it, but Kobe has won more championships than Duncan. Duncan has done more with less talent around him and I consider him the better player, but Kobe has more rings and 7 Finals appearances, 3 as the bonafide leader of his team. That puts him in the conversation.
I'm a borderline Kobe-hater, I really hate his 'me first' attitude but to not put him in the same conversation with Duncan is delusional.
If Duncan wins #5, he takes the step forward ahead of Kobe in to the Magic/Bird tier of players IMO, but until then Kobe still has an argument.

I have no problem with Kobe being talked about as great. He's a front runner though, has missed the playoffs in his prime including one of the all time biggest disappoinments in NBA history this year. He literally quit on his team in the playoffs, demanded a trade and threw teammates under the bus.
He's no where near the best winner of his generation. Rings aren't all that matters. 3 as the leader :lol

Kobe is also lucky to always have so much talent around him. IMO Kobe Bryant is the most overrated player in NBA history. Shaq, Karl Malon, Gary Payton, Bynum, Gasol, Howard, Nash, Artest, etc. These are all players that Kobe should have dominated the league and won every championship those years that he had those players if he wasn't so selfish. We all wish the Spurs would have had those type of players during the Duncan era. The Spurs don't have the money to spend as much as the Lakers yet they still managed to win championships and compete every year thanks to Tim Duncan and good management.

I think Earvin meant the biggest winner of his generation in terms of titles, and he's right. Let's not make a big fuss out of this.

and even at that, Magic was talking about Duncan and Kobme being even as far as number of rings should Tim get #5. Magic never said nor implied Kobme was better.

I can't believe I'm actually having to defend Kobe, but some of these takes are silly. Most rings, most finals appearances of a legit #1/#2 option, that puts him in the conversation.

Tim needs to stop shooting baseline fadeaways like a vag and start bullying niggas in the rectangular colored area under the rim. worked like a charm in game 1, don't know why he went away from it...

It's not like Tim Duncan had Kevin Garnett's Minnesota supporting cast or something: Robinson, Ginobili, Parker -- all Hall of Famers. Elliott, Bowen, Horry, Leonard, Mario Elie, Green, Brent Barry -- all tremendous supporting players. Yeah, we had to scrounge them up the hard way, but they were here.
Five rings and seven finals appearances -- that puts Kobe up there within shouting distance of anyone this side of the Russell Celtics. So I think it's preposterous to talk about how much better he should have done.
And damn it, I hate having to defend Kobe. :shootme
