View Full Version : NBA: Duncan to go down as the greatest winner of all time after these Finals

The only player in NBA history to have two NBA Finals 14 years apart with the same team. Five NBA Championships. The model franchise in all sports for 1997-2013. The highest winning percentage of all sports for 1997-2013. Considered a top five NBA player at 37 years old in his 16th season in the league.

Duncan never walked out on his team twice like Jordan and Magic. Duncan never blew his team up like Shaq did. I'd say only Kareem is ahead of Duncan at this point in the greatest winners of all time, but after this Finals, Duncan will be the greatest winner in NBA history simply because Kareem's titles were against Larry Bird. Hardly an intimidating player.

I'd argue that the 80's Celtics would destroy all of our previous finals opponents with the exception of possibly the Pistons. And even them they would win.

Don't get me wrong, sure Duncan is one of the greatest winners of all time. But I don't get this need quantify all these shitty top lists of people who played in different eras.

Strong case but your reaching, the basketball world will never put anyone over Jordan as greatest winner of all time unless he gets to 6.

DIdn't they proclaim Bill Russell to be the greatest winner in all of 4 major league sports?

Duncan still has two more championships in him after this season. He may cost Lebron a chance to win any championships during his career. Lebron only has 3-4 years left in the league.

son real talk his first two championships (2003 and 2005) were impressive indeed and he was the legit "man" on the team. however since 2007 he has been coattail riding as a role player. you can't call him the greatest winner of all time. one of the greatest yes, but not the greatest. you need more than 2 LEGIT Finals MVP awards for the to happen. the 1999 NCAA-Like Tournament doesn't mean shit either.

Duncan never got the attention whore gene in order for him to supplant Jordan as the new face of the league. guy can be great as anyone in the history but he's just too humble and introvert to help stern commercialize the NBA brand imho

hahahahahah i really want him to make it 5-5 but i don't think that he'll go for the 6th. WE WILL HAVE OUR ROSE BACK AND HE WILL BRING THE RINGS BACK TO CHICAGO

I liked Rose before the injury but now he's a scrub in my eyes until he actually plays an NBA game.

we have so many bulls fans thinking the same but i'm not one of them. nobody knows what he feels, i don't blame him for not playing the entire season.

Never heard of Bill Russell? I think it's comical to consider Michael Jordan the greatest winner of all-time. I think Russell, Magic, and even Tim Duncan are better winners, than Jordan.

Duncan has 2 more years, and if the Spurs FO makes the right moves, he will be playing the Conference Finals again at least 1 more time, maybe even win it again.

This thread is stupid. Duncan is already one of the greatest winners in NBA history. Even if the Spurs lose, he will be 4-1 in the Finals. That's a great accomplishment. 5-0 would be God like status in my opinion.

Duncan is not considered a top 5 player this year.

Some names off the top of my head

LBJ
KD
Kobe
CP3
Melo
Harden
Parker

5 whole championships if they win. That definitely sounds better than 11 championships. Double digit numbers are bad right?

Rose won't be the same player as he was before the injury imho. Duncan is certainly a top 10 of all time but he will face tough challenges if he wants to contend for even a top 5 spot, not to say THE greatest of all time.
